Chapter 11 Threaten My Status

Tyler stood at the bedroom entrance with a taut face as he stared at Dorothy. "For a while now."

Dorothy freaked out a little more upon hearing the answer. Jean quickly walked up to her mom and said calmly, "Mom, go home. I'll visit Jean when I have the time."

Dorothy composed herself and nodded as she walked past Tyler. She went down from the second floor and felt relieved when Tyler didn't call out to her.

Maybe he didn't hear their conversation, and she was nervous for nothing. She hurriedly left Oakside Villa without even looking back.

Jean watched Dorothy leave. Then, she turned to Tyler with a smile. "I thought you wouldn't come home for a while."

He stared at the demure woman with a sharp and curious gaze. She pursed her lips and handled his scorching gaze with calmness. She asked, "What's going on?"

She didn't know if Tyler had overheard her conversation with Dorothy. But she couldn't look suspicious to Tyler after how Dorothy behaved strangely. Tyler was always wary and cautious.

He stood there looking at her for some time. Then, he looked away and entered the room. He casually asked, "Why did Mrs. Michaels visit you?"

She went up and took his jacket before replying calmly, "Just to discuss some family matters. Nothing major."

She hung his jacket on the rack with watchful eyes. Tyler must be suspicious of them, so she must try to act normal. She added, "Mom's also shocked about Mrs. Jones. She swung by to check on that."

Tyler narrowed his eyes and said icily, "You were quite decisive and bold when you dealt with Mrs. Jones."

Her body stiffened at the remark. She replied confidently, "That's all because of your rules. It'll be hard for me to stay in Oakside Villa if I disregard the rules."

She turned around with a smile. "Are you unhappy with how I handled it?"

"Are you emboldened now that your twin has woken up?" Tyler wondered.

Her expression crumbled a little. "What?" She pretended to look lost while she suppressed

her uneasiness.

"Did you think I was in the dark all the time? I knew that you turned a blind eye to what Mrs. Jones was doing. Did you kick her out because you're hatching a new plan?"

Jean took a deep breath under his keen gaze. She felt panic rising in her. She had no idea how much knowledge he held and his stance on her decision to fire Mrs. Jones.

She gulped.

"No," Jean said flatly. "Mrs. Jones was fired from Oakside Villa because of her mistake. Everyone saw that. It's not part of any plan."

She collected herself and faced him with poise. "I do not want the gossip around Mrs. Jones to threaten my status."
