Immortal’s Tale Book 1
Author: charmainglorymae

Prologue

In the middle of the Celebes ocean lies a continent. This continent isolated from civilization is invisible to the common man and cannot be seen on any map. It is called Wysteria.

Wysteria is a continent home to ancient creatures that inhabit the world. Here, people still live who believe in magic and people who can use power. They are the so-called immortals.

The continent is divided into three huge kingdoms. These are Waldorf, Mythion, and Valeria. These kingdoms were peaceful a few thousand years ago. Their kings and queens are the most powerful immortals in all of Wysteria.

They are called immortals because they do not die and do not age like normal people. They can be killed at will and murdered. There is no old man to be found in Wysteria.

Most of the citizens of each kingdom also live richly, but there are places in each kingdom where simple citizens live, and simple life is enough for them.

One day, a vision came to give birth to an immortal who would be the consort of the king of Valeria. Several hundred years passed and the woman destined for the king was indeed found. She was a very beautiful woman who surpassed all the women in all of Wysteria, even the queen of Mythion could not match her beauty.

Light and long hair. Silky skin and smooth face. Her eyes look like a doll and they are blue, like the sea of Celebes. Her nose seemed to be molded by the best sculptor.

But, along with the setting, there is a tinge of anger and envy from other citizens. For them, no one deserves the king because the king is a perfect Wysterian, powerful and incomparable. Because of envy, it is inevitable to plan evil for the destined and one of those people at the top who wants to take the place of the destined.

A woman in a black hood was walking toward the middle of the forest. She only feels one thing while walking on the road with no certainty. Fear. She felt nothing but fear from before as she ran away from the creatures that wanted to kill her.

Her life was in danger because of what she was assigned to do. This place is also full of wild animals and immortal-eating monsters.

Both of her legs hurt and they were covered with wounds, but she endured that pain because it was more important to reach her goal. He needs to talk to the old shaman who crosses over to the other world.

She had to do it because that was what she was tasked to do. She hurriedly walked until she saw a small hut with smoke on top. A sign that someone is inside. This hut is covered by a large tree whose roots will eventually grow.

She immediately ran to the hut. She quickly knocked and looked around to make sure no one had followed her.

"Hello?! Is there anyone in there?!" She knocked on the door and she turned around again. She saw no other creatures there but huge trees and a dark atmosphere. She also had seeing eyes that she was sure were from wild wolves that did not approach immortals.

She heard the door creak and it opened and she saw an old man in a black cloak with a long white beard. The wrinkled skin is visible on its face. The sorcerer was the only immortal who grew old because of his exit from Wysteria.

"What do you need, young lady?" the old shaman asked coldly. His eyes were staring intently at the sweaty and pale woman.

"You have a very important mission from the King," she replied to the old man.

Recognition passed through the old man's eyes so she widened the opening of the door for him to enter. He immediately entered and the smell of oil and medicinal herbs opened to her senses.

"I know the day will come when I will do it, as a way to repay the debt. What do they want me to do?" the old man asked her.

There was a lump in her throat because she was afraid. Even though she was ordered, she was very scared since it's not in her nature to hurt anyone. He felt that everything would be her fault, but he couldn't do anything because he was just a lowly slave. There is no high rank and power to disobey the command of the superior.

"The woman destined for the king of Valeria must disappear from the world," he answered.

The old magician seemed to stop breathing. He knew what the woman in front of him was talking about, and he knew what they wanted to kill.

From the moment the girl destined to be the king of Valeria was born, he already knew her destiny. It will not die because it has been blessed with the favor of the gods just like the royal blood even though it is just an ordinary immortal.

"What if I can't do what the King wants?" he asked the woman because he knew he couldn't kill the king.

"You will die," the woman answered him directly.

He knew she wasn't lying. She doesn't look like a killer, but he knows that someone will kill him, when he doesn't follow their wishes.

"In that case, give me time to prepare, because the creature you want to disappear is not just any creature. I will begin the ritual," he answered and he went to the altar to begin the incantation.

He doesn't have the ability to kill the chosen one, but he does have the ability to remove it from Wysteria. He would just need time to do that. He would remove the chosen one from Wysteria and make it appear that she had died in a believable manner. If he had to borrow the power of darkness he would.

"Tomorrow, the full moon...the chosen one will die," he said and began reciting the incantation.

Elena's POV

"Mom, I want to go to the other realm," I muttered as my mother combed my long hair.

Because they say the other realm is very beautiful, the realm of the mortals. There are other immortals who can cross the two worlds, but I don't know when I will be able to go there.

"Alessia, you know it's not possible, especially since you are destined for the dear king," mother answered me.

I winced. I don't know if I will be happy to marry the king or not. I have never once recognized or seen it. It is part of the tradition that the two of us will only see each other on our wedding day.

I did not see the king because I had never entered Valeria's palace before. Just now, but I'm in a part far away from the king. I don't even know why I will marry the king. Everyone knows that the queen of Mythion is very fond of the king of Valeria.

"Why do I have to marry the King? I can't, can I—"

"—It is a sin to refuse what has been chosen, Alessia. The gods have chosen you to be the consort of the king. So you cannot say no," mother cut me off that made me submissive.

I nodded. "I know that, mother. But I hope, I can go to the other realm at least for a moment," I asked, but I knew that it was unlikely to happen.

"You will also forget the other realm, Alessia. Our realm is much better than the other world."

I didn't respond anything about it. I just stood up from where I was sitting. "Mother, I'm just going to get some air," I said goodbye to mother.

She immediately agreed so I left my room in the palace. I walked down the hall and saw a few soldiers standing guard. They look like statues because they don't move.

I just kept walking until I reached the biggest balcony that could overlook the entire land of Valeria. I can also see the city lights that are covered. The cloudless sky and the big round moon.

I grabbed the balustrade of the balcony. I just looked up at the big moon. There are many stars in the sky and I also see floating airships. It all belongs to Valeria and is the transportation or attraction if there are guests from other kingdoms.

I just tightened my grip on the baluster when suddenly my heart beat so hard that it seemed like it wanted to explode. My breathing has also changed and the airway seems to be constricting.

"Who is that?" I just turned around when I heard a voice that grabbed my attention.

I saw there a tall man with long black hair. Based on what he was wearing, I knew that he was not an ordinary guest at the palace, but I did not know who he was. I just saw him today and based on his face, this is the look you'll never forget when you see him.

His forehead was frowning and I could see his beautiful face. It seems that its face was deliberately carved by a famous artist because it is so beautiful. It's perfect and you can't beat it with anything. From any angle, his face is perfect even though he frowns and is obviously strict.

I wanted to ask him for help because I was slowly losing my breath.

"H-help...I can't b-breathe." I whispered that and immediately registered the alarm on the face of the man I didn't know.

He immediately came and grabbed me. I felt like electricity flowed through my whole body.

"Soldiers! Summon the healer!" I just heard it promised. "Lady, what is your name?"

"E-Elena..." I was able to answer that but I didn't notice her reaction anymore because my heart was beating harder until I felt it stop. "A-ah..." I moaned because my chest hurt and I couldn't breathe.

Am I going to die? I just felt that the surroundings suddenly became chaotic and I couldn't hear them anymore. I just noticed that someone suddenly appeared in front of me who was dressed in black and was holding a harvest knife. It was like Death ready to take my soul.

His face was a skull and I completely lost my trance when his blade hit me directly in my chest.
