Verena

The humidifier made a light hum in the background as I collapsed on the comfy bed that bounced slightly before I sat upright, legs curled at my side.

Since I was busy arranging my clothes in the closet, I didn’t have the time to admire the room decoration but now that I was almost done, I should do that.

I swiveled my gaze around the room, taking in the warm glow of the pink pastel color on the wall, the beautiful artworks that were hung on it. While the decoration leaned more on the minimalist side, something about it brought warmth to my heart and it felt like whoever did this poured out their hearts into bringing this alive.

I had been anxious about the fact that it would take me a long time to get accustomed to Daxton’s home just like my new home. But this room felt like home.

I shouldn’t feel comfortable yet. This whole assistant to Daxton still made me skeptical because the more I thought about it, the more things seemed more calculated— like an excuse to

  • In Bed With My Ex-Husband’s Uncle    To know you

Verena I paced in the hallway. The random cuffs sitting in his drawer. The basement where he kept Kian in torture for days. His admission to framing Cassandra. It all came back to me and I couldn't help but feel scared. Not of him. But of things he could be. Daxton wasn't the perfect businessman he posed as, he was involved in something far more dangerous than the image he had always shown me. And to add to the top of the list, the fact that a gang worked for him. It was either that he was that influential or straight-up engaged in criminal activity. I needed answers because I didn't know Daxton. Not at all. Daisy barked and I figured out that Daxton was back home. I rushed down the stairs, his face coming into view as he brushed his hand through Daisy’s fur, his eyes coasting over to mine. “Hey, Pr

Verena I walked Daisy to the Dog park. That’s been my new routine since I returned from New Orleans. Take her on a walk after work and return home to take care of my bunnies. Daisy never hesitated to show that she loved coming here to play with the other dogs. She wagged her tail, ears flopping, tongue lolling while I ran a finger through her fur, falling to one knee and unclipping her leash. “Have fun, Daisy and…” I had barely completed my words when she sprinted to the gate, another golden retriever bounding towards her, sniffing my Daisy. I whipped my phone out, ready to take pictures to share with Daxton when a voice touched my ears. The back of my neck prickled from the familiarity of that voice. I just hoped it wasn't who I thought it was&

Zita Verena had to be the most heartless woman that I’d ever met. Cold. Stone-hearted. She was so impossible. How could she return every gift box that I sent? All the other gift boxes that I sent to some important wedding guests were made by the maids. But, I had actually put my heart and money into everything that I sent to Verena only for her to dump it into the trash and send a picture of it. Well, it wasn’t her fault. It was mine. If it weren’t for the fear Kian had instilled in me—about his uncle—Verena would be the last person that I would ever send a wedding invite to. At first, I disregarded Kian’s warning—thinking that he was only being paranoid because of the fear of his uncle. Plus, no one knew that I was the one who tipped Mandy off. That was wha

  • In Bed With My Ex-Husband’s Uncle    Ten Minutes

Verena I heaved another frustrated sigh, staring at the letter in the unwrapped gift box. Zita was bent on infuriating me. This wasn’t normal anymore. I reached for the letter, unfolding it—face devoid of any emotion. It read; “Dearest Verena, I will keep trying until you accept my request to be friends. I want us to put the past behind us and move on to something better. To begin this new chapter together, would you honor me by joining my bridesmaids?” “It would mean the world to me. Have a nice day. Please don’t send back the invitation this time. Love you.” This ridiculous cycle of her sending back the invitations that I already returned has been going on for a week now. It first started when she texted me a digital copy of the Invitation. I a

Kian It’s been three days, and I still haven't moved on from what happened in Nina’s house. My explosive reaction to hearing my Uncle and Verena have sex. The stupid fight that I had with my uncle and most importantly, the horrible names that I called Verena. Everything haunted me back. Since then, I have been crafting apology messages in my head to Verena. I couldn’t even face her after the embarrassing moment because I was sure she hated me now. Worse than before. If I had supernatural powers, I would have erased that moment from my memory. Nina said I was doing too much. I was just relieved that she didn’t tell my parents about it. I exhaled, about to grab my fork when Zita’s voice stopped me. “I think we are soulmates—” She slanted her head, a smile tilting her lips as she raised the fork to her mouth. That was totally unexpected. Confusion muddled my brain as I raised a brow. “What?” She dropped her fork, leaned forward with that smile still plastered o

  • In Bed With My Ex-Husband’s Uncle    Defeated

Verena I chewed on my meat slowly, almost thankful for the five minutes of peace when Atlas broke the silence, my gaze flicking to his because what the fuck was he up to again? “Little sister, I got you packets full of peanuts…” I froze, turning to look at him as if he had lost his mind. I didn't like peanuts and had an… Daxton's eyes jerked up to his. “Why did you get her peanuts ? How do you not know that she is allergic to them?” How did Daxton know? Never mentioned it to him before. Atlas’s brows pulled up in surprise. “Really, She is?” I had never felt so bewildered. Ever since my severe allergic reaction in middle school, my family had been meticulous about what I ate. Atlas, despite his love for peanuts, had given them up entirely and avoided anything containing them—just for me. So, why would he ask such… Oh. This was one of his supposed tests. Atlas was really unbelievable. “You are her brother. You should know—” “Right? Is that true?” I gave Atla
