Bella Reyes “You know how I'm always hanging out with the hockey guys, right?” I chuckled. “Yeah. I've actually been meaning to ask you why you haven't considered playing hockey yourself.” He gave me a look that instantly made me nervous. “I mean, you're always around them, watching their games, plus you have the build for it. I was just curious.” “Yeah, I do. I know that.” Tyler slumped back into the couch with a heavy sigh. “Is that making you uncomfortable?” “What?” “The couch.” I laughed. “It's pretty old now. I don't have the money to replace it yet since my mom cut off my allowance.” “No, Bella, stop… doing that. You know how much I hate it when you do that.” My chest tightened. “Do what?” I shook my head. “Just stop with the hockey talk.” Oh. He massaged his temples. “You know I love hockey, and I'd give anything in the world to be on the ice. You know it's literally my dream to play, and I have the talent for it, yeah. But then you just casually bring it up like…” He sighed again. “Like what?” My brow furrowed, my heart rate speeding up. “Like what, Tyler?” He stood up from the couch so suddenly that I flinched, pulling back a little. “Like…” Tyler shoved his fingers deep into his hair and let out another frustrated breath. “Never mind,” he rasped. “Are you going to help me with that favor or not?” He turned toward me, and I froze, stopping my attempt to inch further away from him. I hated whenever Tyler got mad. It broke a little piece of my heart, but I genuinely couldn't figure out what had just triggered him. I had never really brought up hockey with him before. Well, technically, he never stopped talking about hockey himself, even though I barely understood any of it. But we had never talked about why he didn't play for the school team if he adored the sport so much. Seeing him this worked up left a knot in my chest, and I had no idea what to say or do to fix the mood. The movie we had put on kept playing low in the background, the screen flickering just enough for me to watch his expression shift. “Of course. I'd do anything for you, Tyler.” I lowered my eyes for a second before looking back up at him. “You just haven't told me what you need help with yet.” Tyler sat back down, resting his elbows on his thighs while clenching his jaw. I rubbed the palms of my hands together, unsure of how to navigate the tension. I had really hoped we would have a sweet, quiet night together, especially since my roommate was out and I had the whole room to myself. I had wanted us to make the most of the evening, watch a movie together, share some popcorn, and maybe make out. He was my boyfriend, after all. It wasn't crazy to want to cuddle up to him and trace the lines of his arms. Tyler and I hadn't crossed that intimate line yet, but I loved him enough to want to. From the moment he asked me to be his girlfriend, I knew I would eventually want to take that next step with him. And tonight, even though I had clearly misread his mood, I had secretly hoped we would get closer. But clearly… I sighed softly, reaching out to touch his forearm. “Tyler, talk to me.” He shifted away from my touch, sending a fresh spike of worry through me. “Please, just tell me what's wrong. If it makes you feel any better, I'll never talk to you about hockey ever again.” His jaw relaxed slightly, and he let out a long breath. “You know how I'm always hanging around those arrogant hockey players?” I made sure not to interrupt him this time. “Yes.” He pinched the bridge of his nose like it physically hurt to explain, making me even more anxious. Then his lips parted, and I held my breath. “So, I took on a job for one of them. Technically, not directly for him, but whatever. It doesn't matter how I got it. The point is, the job was to keep an eye on some rich brat. Basically babysitting an arrogant, grown man, and…” My pulse spiked uncomfortably. “And what?” “I ended up getting into an argument with him, and things…” “What?” I gasped. “You fought him? Why, Tyler?” I didn't think he had a mean streak like that in him. He glanced at my shocked face and quickly looked away. “Stop making a huge deal out of it. It wasn't that serious. The guy was just being an asshole… whatever, forget it.” He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “I accidentally left my laptop at the guy's place, and I need you to help me pick it up. I have a huge project due this week, and if I miss the deadline, I'm completely screwed. I just need you to swing by and get it for me tonight. Please.” My mind registered his request. Why had he built it up like some massive ordeal when he could have just explained that from the start? Before his eyes could drift back to mine, I swallowed the lump in my throat. “I can totally do that.” “Really?” “Yes.” I nodded quickly. “Just text me the address.” “Right now?” His eyes widened in genuine surprise. “You're okay with going right away?” I furrowed my brows at how shocked he sounded. “Yeah, of course. It's just picking up a laptop. I'll go get it, and then I'll come straight back so we can finish our movie night.” I offered him a small smile, and he finally mirrored it. “You're the absolute best, Bella.” He immediately grabbed his phone off the table. “I'll send you the address right now.” I nodded, reaching over to pick up my own phone from the side table as it lit up. “Sent.” He beamed.10Bella ReyesRunning was not going to save me now. I knew he would catch up, but I attempted it anyway. Aries Hadid was a hockey player. Running and hitting were practically his day job, something he breathed like air, so it wasn't surprising how quickly he towered over me from behind.“Bella, wait!” His hand clamped around my wrist so tight that I just wanted to slump to the floor in pure exhaustion.Or better yet, have the ground open up and swallow me whole. He held me tightly, and when I tried to force a few more steps forward, he loosened his grip slightly, allowing me to walk, but still refusing to let me go.“Please, listen to me,” he panted, his breath ragged. “You have to listen to me, okay?”My own breath came in choppy gasps that heaved my chest. I could barely see where I was going, just walking blindly down the corridor. Why had he fucking announced something like that to the entire student body of Terraria University? Couldn't he have just walked past? Couldn't he have
09Bella ReyesIt was stupid of me to think I could escape him that easily. “Bella, please wait!”I sidestepped students, almost breaking into a full run. I was so focused on getting away that I didn't realize how fast he was gaining on me until he grabbed me by my shirt, bringing all my movement to a sudden stop.“Bella, please.”“Please what?” I whipped my head around so fast my vision shattered into a dizzying spell. The muscles in my arms gave out, causing my bag to slip from my hands and hit the ground. My vision cleared just as Tyler dropped to his knees to pick up my scattered things.Standing up, he held my bag out to me. I hesitated to take it, wishing with everything inside me that he would just go to hell and never come back.“Are you okay?” His voice sounded soft and full of concern, and the absolute absurdity of it made me want to laugh.“I'm fine,” I said coldly, snatching my bag from his hands and clutching it tight against my chest as I turned on my heel.“No, Bella, p
08Bella ReyesI didn't deserve to live backed into a corner like this. I hadn't offended anyone. I hadn't done anything wrong in my life to be backed into a corner like a piece of garbage. That was the single thought that forced me out of bed this morning. It held me together just enough to take a shower and actually show up for class, after rotting away in my dorm room like a piece of furniture for weeks, without speaking a word to anyone.I was sick. Physically, and in my head. But mostly in my head for letting Aries use me so easily like that. Even though weeks had passed, it still didn't feel any less demeaning or damaging.Every time I opened my eyes to a new day, a morning that used to feel bright and full of hope, I was met with a vile, sickening knot in the pit of my stomach. My new routine consisted of throwing up the contents of my stomach, then scrubbing my skin in the shower as if I needed to scrape off an entire layer of myself. The fact that I had completely ruined my l
07Bella ReyesAgainst my own judgment, I nodded.“Oh, Bella.” The low raspy way he said my name sent a wave of liquid heat rushing straight down between my thighs. “You shouldn't. You're far too gorgeous to be crying over someone like him.”“Aries?” I asked softly, my voice barely working as I tried to regain my footing. “Why are you here?”“For you, Bella. I came here for you.”My eyes snapped open. “No, you can't be. Please, you need to leave.” I tried to spring off his lap, but his thick arm wrapped around my waist, yanking me back down against him. This time, my back was flushed completely against his broad chest, and my ass was pressed so tight into his groin that I could feel the thick, heavy outline of his length nestled right in the curve of my cheeks.A mixture of ice and fire sent a shiver down my spine. His fingers pinned my jaw, firm yet surprisingly tender, turning my face toward his until his hot breath fanned over my lips. “Aries...”“Fuck, the way you say my name dri
06Bella Reyes“You wouldn't, Rhea.” I shook my head, feeling pathetically weak.“Oh, I fucking would. Who do you think you are?”“No, Rhea. You can't. Please. This is my future on the line.”“Go fuck yourself and your future. I don't give a damn. You really thought you could have Tyler? That I was just going to let you?” She scoffed, letting out a cruel laugh. “Now look at your pathetic self.” She gestured toward me like I was a piece of trash. “Like I said, if you beg nicely, I'll leave your name out of it so people have to guess. Isn't that generous of me?” She smirked, turning her eyes toward Tyler. “Right, baby?”Baby? I could barely process the insult before the sting of that word cut straight through me.I watched in total disbelief as Tyler agreed. “Right.”Rhea gave a confident giggle, locking her eyes back onto mine. “See? I'm so generous.”There was no way I was going to beg her. I couldn't take the bait. I knew Rhea too well. She would pull out her phone, record me on came
05Bella ReyesI slammed open the door to my dorm room, not caring if I broke the hinges, my eyes frantically searching the space. Tyler wasn't there.Fuck. I was going crazy. God help him if any of this turned out to be true. I had seen the transaction receipt and the message thread, but my brain still couldn't fully process it.Tyler wasn't capable of doing something so cruel to me. It had to be fabricated. For all I knew, Tyler and Aries had bad blood, and this was just a twisted scheme to ruin him.Tyler loved me. We loved each other. There was absolutely nothing Aries could throw at us that would tear us apart. My rushed steps faltered right outside the door to Tyler's room as laughter drifted into the hallway. But that could be anyone. It could be his roommate hanging out with his girlfriend. It could be anyone, and I was stepping way over the line.If this all turned out to be a mind game orchestrated by Aries, I would still have to face Tyler's anger for doubting him. But I ne
