Chapter 1

"Natasha, your surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. Make sure you don't eat or drink anything tonight, or it'll have to be postponed."

Why was I in a hospital? Didn't I die?

"Wait. What surgery am I having tomorrow?"

The nurse looked at me strangely but patiently replied, "A minimally invasive cervical procedure. Don't worry. It's just a small surgery. Nothing would go wrong."

Having experienced the surgery, I let out a bitter laugh at her words. This nurse was good at jinxing things. I almost suspected she'd been reborn too.

I closed my eyes and thought, who could've imagined that such a supposedly simple, foolproof surgery would destroy my entire life?

No, it wasn't the surgery that ruined me but the surgeon who performed it—my future sister-in-law, Kate Diller.

I still couldn't figure out how, in a country with such strict regulations for medical interns, she'd managed to become the lead surgeon for my procedure or how she'd managed to botch a minor surgery so badly that I ended up losing my womb.

In my previous life, it all started when my boyfriend, Jack Diller, and I were discussing marriage. Kate had suggested I get a premarital health check.

As I had nothing to hide, I'd agreed to get checked at the hospital where she worked without hesitation.

Yet, I hadn't expected that I would be diagnosed with cervical ectropion, especially since I'd never even been in a serious relationship before.

Kate had insisted it was because I slept around.

Jack had been torn, and eventually, he'd told me that surgery was a prerequisite for marriage. Naively, I'd gone along with it and got on the operating table. And just like that, I had lost my womb.

I hadn't even realized it at first. Months passed without a period, and when I finally went for a checkup, I thought I might be pregnant. Instead, I learned the truth.

Jack had turned on me the moment he found out.

"You should be grateful anyone's willing to take you, considering how filthy you are. Now that you don't have a womb, it's perfect. At least you won't be carrying some other man's child."

At that time, I wasn't about to let the culprit get away with it, so I decided to report Kate to the hospital. That was when Jack started plotting his revenge. He'd eventually found an opportunity to kill me.

After my death, I'd lingered as a ghost, unable to move on. I had followed Jack and Kate, watching them live their twisted, off-and-on lives.

In the end, they were happy together.

It wasn't until Kate botched another surgery and an enraged patient stabbed her in the heart that I saw darkness again. And when I opened my eyes, I was back here, the day before that ill-fated surgery.

Staring at the sterile white ceiling, I could still feel the ache in my abdomen from the pre-op injections.

Kate Diller and Jack Diller.

Who would've guessed that those two weren't related by blood despite having the same surname?

What a pair of psychos.

If they wanted to indulge in their sick "forbidden love", they were welcome to it. But why did they have to drag innocent people like me into their mess?

Building their love on my ruined life—didn't it taste bitter?

I clenched my fists tightly to stop myself from storming over and beating them senseless right now.

Sure, I could break up with Jack immediately and cut my losses. But I wasn't satisfied with just that. If I left now, the rumors about me sleeping around would stick with me forever.

Why on earth should I allow that to happen?

Kate and Jack were committing unspeakable acts while pretending to be mere siblings. Why should I be the one to take the blame and endure their filth in silence?

I was enraged, and I had every right to be.I couldn't believe I let someone like Jack into my life.…Jack and Kate got married.I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the colleague who brought me the news.It was ridiculous to think that they still decided to get married after everything. They even wanted me to go to the wedding.According to my colleague, they'd broken up and gotten back together several times.Honestly, I wasn't too interested in their drama, but the hospital Kate had been trying to get into happened to be where my new boyfriend, Gordon Lane, worked. It was the same hospital I went to for a checkup, where I uncovered the issue with my surgery record.Kate thought I was helpless and easy to control. When the deadline for signing up for the external training program at the hospital was approaching, she altered the time on my surgery records. That was when Gordon noticed. He was in charge of reviewing records and caught a mistake—Kate's name matched the person

"I checked, and guess what? The hospital director's last name is Diller. Here's an exclusive piece of news—of all doctors in the hospital, Kate is the only one who graduated from community college.""What a coincidence. I'm Kate's neighbor. Her mom divorced her doctor dad because he was always away from home working."…Finally, I had turned the tide.Despite how cheerful the internet seemed, many people had already filed complaints with the health inspection committee. I'd been trying to call them recently, and the lines were always busy.As the situation escalated, someone who knew the details stepped forward.Kate's personal records were exposed. I watched as countless women shared their experiences, revealing the crazy love stories involving Kate's family. Even a video of Heidi causing a fight was shared online. At this point, Kate's identity was out in the open, and many curious people had started investigating her. They'd uncovered even the smallest details, like the color

The staff told me they would form a team as soon as possible to investigate the matter and asked me to wait for further updates.Only a fool would listen to them.People in our country tended to prefer a neutral approach and were naturally resistant to complaints or backlash. If I followed their advice and waited patiently at home for the news, even the officials would likely drag their feet until I lost my temper. The most likely outcome would be a handwritten apology from the hospital, and they might even leak my personal information. At this point, I was ready to deploy the backup plan I had prepared for the online backlash.Humans couldn't stand perfection. While many would cry over the beautiful love story I had crafted, there would no doubt be some who'd fixate on any small flaw and even go as far as reporting it.Issues like an intern doctor performing surgery, tampered medical records, and fraudulent insurance claims were severe, and all I did was leave these problems for

  • In Death, I Found the Truth   Chapter 10

In my past life, I had mistakenly gone to the hospital where Kate worked for a checkup, thinking I was pregnant. Hence, when I complained about something being wrong, Kate quickly figured out it was me.Since I had not told anyone about this, I was dumbfounded at how quickly Jack had figured it out. At that time, he had not even taken the day off and had rushed straight to the hospital to reprimand me.Before heading to the health inspection committee, I backed up everything on my phone—files about Kate, a video of Heidi's fight at the hospital, my medical records, and insurance details.I made several backups and scheduled them to be released. This way, even if things didn't go as planned for me, at least Kate and the Diller family's wrongdoings would come to light.I wasn't relying entirely on the internet, though. Many medical incidents worse than mine had been posted online and barely caused a ripple. There was too much new information online, and even things involving life a

It wasn't until the family started pressuring her to marry that Jack chose to date someone who resembled Kate—me.After I died and became a ghost, I overheard Jack confessing to Kate."Kate, when I found out you removed Natasha's womb, I knew you had feelings for me. Otherwise, such a kind-hearted person like you wouldn't have done that to her."I understand your pain, and I can't imagine how hard it was for you to make that decision. Be with me, Kate. I won't let your suffering be in vain. I'll take care of you for life."Ugh, what a weirdo!I regretted not transforming into a vengeful ghost to get rid of that disgusting pair.Kind-hearted? Was that from her casually taking my womb or from her later berating a patient whose surgery failed? The two of them were truly meant for each other.…Because of Kate's father, my whereabouts might be exposed if I treated myself at a nearby hospital. So, I chose a public hospital in a neighboring city.Though the gynecology department in

"Natasha, Mr. Andrews isn't wrong. If you can't maintain basic chastity as a woman, how can you become a leader? As long as I'm around, I'll never let someone as morally corrupt as you rise to power."What an idiot.I retorted, "That's rich coming from someone who blew through the project funds. If all you're good for is scrambling for scraps under the table, maybe don't bark so loudly."Ignoring the two of them, I lowered my head to reply to some messages on my phone."Ms. Cabot, I'm glad you're finally interested in joining my company.""I'll join you if you kick out my ex-boyfriend," I responded.Honestly, I wasn't interested in a managerial role. I merely wanted my own office. At the moment, I was working at a small company. Neither the pay nor the prospects were very good, but I stuck it out because I appreciated the boss taking me in when I was a fresh graduate.Unfortunately, my first love was a jerk, and it seemed my first company wasn't much better.Jack's company had
