Chapter 4

Maria was walking through a passage the next evening when she hears the discussion between Ohio and Scout, his new right hand man. She overhears him telling scouts that he had strangled the Malvin to death while he was having his rest after they had done their morning training.

" I only had to add some drowsy liquid to his water which made the poor thing really weak and lazy",Ohio said laughing lavishly.

They both laugh over the situation ,while Ohio tells scouts that killing the Alpha wasn't really a big deal. He said that the Alpha had the strength of a chicken and he despised him a lot because of his weak nature. Although they had been friends from childhood , he only hated every single thing about him. Malvin had always been on his way in everything he had always wanted.

He also told him that he wasn't strong enough to make decisions that would put things in order but loved begging people a lot to do things. A leader should not have to beg his subjects into doing certain things, but he has to take charge and rule them all with his iron fist.

"He has the heart of a weakling and it was best for him to die and rest because he didn't have what it takes to be a strong leader".

Scout agrees with what he tells him and says that he did well by killing the late Alpha.

Maria is shocked on hearing what they were discussing. She immediately leaves the place in tears and wishes that her mate had not been killed. Quickly she goes into her courts in tears and bows her head on her bed crying out her heart .

Luciana noticed her behavior and decides to know what was wrong with her .

She asked her what troubled her, Maria couldn't find the words to tell Luciana of what she had heard between the Ohio and scout. Summoning enough courage to let her know that she almost mated a murderer ,she tells her that Ohio killed her mate just because he felt that he was weak and didn't have what it takes to rule.

Luciana tells her that this was exactly what she tried warning her of when she agreed on being the new Alpha's Luna. "

"I told you he is up to no good and I suspect he killed the Alpha. I hope they didn't see you eavesdropping on their conversation",she said, trying to console Maria.

" I don't think they did", Maria replied.

A knock comes on the door and Luciana steps out to know who it was. On opening the door she discovers that it is the Doctor who had come to visit Maria. The doctor comes in and finds Maria crying he asked her what the matter was but Maria and says that she misses her mate who was dead.

The doctor reveals to the both of them that from the test which he had conducted , Maria was already with a child. He tells her to be careful of what she does from henceforth in other to avoid any miscarriage of the pregnancy as she wasn't in a good state of mind.

He tells her that she should take heart, and that her mate was already gone and nothing could be done about it.

He advises her to focus on the child in her womb who he told her would bring her so much joy after she has conceived it.

"Although your mate may be dead but this child should bring you so much joy in the future", he said.

Maria thanks him for the information and promises him that she would put herself together and make sure that the child comes up perfectly. She also asked him if anyone had seen him while coming into her court.

He tells her that he isn't sure about that ,but everywhere seemed vacant and empty on his arrival.

Maria tells Luciana to show the doctor another way out of the courts where no one would see him leave. She also pleads with him not to let Ohio or anyone know about her child . He attest to keep her little secret as he leaves.

Luciana sees him through the door to where he exited the courtyard from . She returns back to Maria. She asked Maria what they were going to do because the child belongs to the late Alpha. She tells her that if Ohio discovers that the late Alpha has an heir , that he was going to make sure that he killed the child.

Maria cries out with so much confusion and pleads with Luciana to help her out with the ideas she needed. Luciana tells her that it is very obvious that she cannot stay in the pack any longer. She states that everybody in the pack fears the new alpha and no one will be able to resist him from harming her and the child she had in her womb.

She tells her that the only solution to the problem they face at that point was for her to escape and run away far from the pack. Maria then tells her that she knows that it is almost very impossible because the pack well guarded with guards and it would be very difficult for her to escape without any of the guards licking her whereabouts to the Alpha.

Luciana offers to help and tells her that she would go with her so they would figure out the best way for them both to run away from the pack at night.

She tells her about a closet her father had once escaped from when his friend wanted his head. It was a tunnel at the center of the pack, but this had a door from the guards chambers , no one knew about except the strongest high ranked warriors in the pack. it was made as a place of refuge and escape if the need one arises.

Maria thanks her for being very supportive to her all through her hardest times. Luciana replies that Maria had also been good to her even as the Luna of the pack and she owes her a lot even her life. She could remember when her father ,one of the packs strongest warriors was killed ,her mother had died giving birth to her earlier. She had be recruited to work as one of the courts maid .Having Maria as her Luna had only brought her relief and happiness in a long time.

Luciana then helps in packing up Maria's bag secretly and they both decide not to let any other person know about their plans of escaping at night. Luciana then tells Maria that it is best for her to disguise herself as they leave at night. she rubs her some contents to make her look twenty years older than her age.

She makes her hair look grey like that of an old woman and gets her some old sac clothes which was been worn by a poor old lady.

Luciana also dresses herself up as an old lady too.

At midnight they both came out from the courts room and walked slowly not be suspected through the courtyard passing different guards at different locations.

They finally got the guards chambers opening the secret door quietly then they of and sneaked out quietly without being noticed into the tunnel. it was quite a long work and they had to trek for about two hours before they got to a thick forest.

Walking through the thick forest at such time of the night was quite dangerous but they knew they had to take the risk in order to save the life of the unborn child .

They kept on walking in the forest not knowing where exactly they were going to but they knew they had to go far far away from the pack in order to stop the Ohio from his wicked plans. She knew she had to escape the pack as soon as possible, else she was going to be the mate of the murderer of her late Alpha, and he could as well harm her too for carrying Malvin's heir.
