Juliano's POV

The lights in the room were dim, warm gold bleeding across the sleek marble table. No background music. No curious staff watching. I arrived twenty minutes earlier. Waiting on people isn't my thing, but it was important. The reservation area was booked two days ago; everything was prepared.

I didn’t bring security in. There was no need to.

Leaning back in my chair, my fingers drummed against the sleek marble centre table.I watched as the door shut behind him with an ominous click, not her. Not the silent shadow in a suit. Not a bodyguard with stiff shoulders and guarded eyes. It took me a while to get used to the way she moved in that disguise. No, this was her without a shield. Still precise.

She stepped in the room like she had always belonged there. No disguise. No distortion in her voice. I was happy letting her live freely, not under her shadows. I ordered chicken parmesan. How lousy would the boss be not to offer his underlings something to eat?

  • In Love With My Disguised Bodyguard    Chapter 44

Skai’s POV My life had taken a drastic U-turn in the past few weeks. I now live linearly, from my apartment, which doesn't feel like home, to the office. Almost the same routine every day. Zero social life; I never wanted to be social, just to be myself. If it got too boring, I'd play music at the highest volume, almost blowing off my ears, dancing crazily off beats. I've never attended dance classes. Juliano and I stopped meeting after that day. I ordered him not to call for our sake, to be on the safer side. Giovanni had me in his bondage. Little does he know the damage he has caused himself. I had to live by his rules, as if I'm not in control of my own life anymore, but maybe it's better that way. Monitoring his tactics before making any move. I was in his office; this time, not Tillard's. There were not many books; it looked darker and suffocating. I had to breathe in and out continuously to notice if I was still alive. I sat in the chair in front of his desk, with my hands

  • In Love With My Disguised Bodyguard    Chapter 43

I was at the penthouse. Sitting by the pool in between the rails as I dipped my legs in the water. The water reached my leg halfway. It was so silent, and I couldn't help the different thoughts that flipped through my mind like I was reading a book. The sun shone brightly, casting golden streaks on the marble floor. I went over to the chaise lounge chair, resting my back against the chair as I put on my sun shades and faced upwards, crossing my legs. Resting the towel beneath my head. I placed a drink on the table in between the two chairs; I could have a sip whenever my throat dries. Footsteps brought me out of the little world in my head. I peeled my eyes open and I saw Sophia. She was dressed in a white sundress which stopped at knee length. Her hair flipped on one of her shoulders. Something moved in my chest, like it had always been there like a prisoner, and it was yearning for freedom. My bodyguard. She didn't care about her dressings make her look like a woman. She was just

Skai’s POV Giovanni marched out, and his guards followed. The sound of the car was heard in the distance, then silence. The doctor treated my wounds and went over to treat Matteo. He had scratches and wounds, but I guess he was used to it. He didn't even flinch. The doctor arranged his first aid box. “I'm ready to leave; you should be able to take care of yourself.”I blinked. "Take care of yourself?"I thought he was getting us out of here. Is this the punishment from Giovanni? As if he wasn't expecting a response, he left. The retreating sound of his engine made me realise he was gone for real. It dawned on me, and I faced Matteo. “How will we get out of here?” “Are you okay?” I was close to getting angry, His voice was naturally low and very deep. It sounded like he just cared. It was a voice that exuded manliness but also a subtle danger. “Yeah, I'm fine.” “I'll get us out of here.”He gave an assuring nod. “When?” I asked impatiently, a faint note of hope in my voice.

  • In Love With My Disguised Bodyguard    Chapter 41

Skai’s POV I wanted to remain in the same position, keep my eyes closed. Enjoy the moment and the softness of the cushion, even though my feet were hanging in the air. My head rested on something that was as soft as fur. The strong stench of blood and my lack of memory of where I was shook me out of my state of calm. I peeled my eyes open; they felt heavy. When my vision finally cleared, a man with a strong face appeared before me sitting on his floor, resting his back against the wall. Despite the fact that he had an injury on his face and forehead. It took seconds before my brain recalled that it was the driver that picked me up. I tried to sit up; a throbbing headache hit me. I slowly rested my back against the hard red brick. The pillow was covered with blood where my head had rested. I touched my head – sticky with blood. Like, it's been hours, and it was thick and about to dry up. I couldn't remember anything. The only thing I could recall was the driver picking me up f

  • In Love With My Disguised Bodyguard    Chapter 40

Skai’s POV I closed the door and walked behind her. Her honey blonde hair bouncing down her back, but she kept looking forward, refusing to give one last look at the library. The book lingered in my mind. I shouldn't be distracted. It wasn’t my mission, and I didn't have to divulge into unnecessary matters. She was dead; there was no need to find what led to her death. Chiara was walking towards her room as I followed. She entered the room and took a glass of cold water. That was when I realised how much tension the library gave her. I might not be able to get to the library again. Even though I wasn't familiar with her facial expressions, she was clearly scared. My gaze darted to her, hoping for an explanation or change in mood, but her attention drifted between her posters and the glass of water. I settled on the sofa adjacent to her bed, still holding a pillow to suppress my nervousness. The edge of the paper was like tiny needles, tirelessly prickling my tummy, even when

  • In Love With My Disguised Bodyguard    Chapter 39

Skai’s POV In Auder's mansion The Hummer jeep dropped me and zoomed off. Carlo ordered the man to pick me up. I was asked to rest in the back seat; he didn't want me knowing the road to the place. I could only see through the windscreen. The only area I knew was the long road in between a large body of water. It was as though I were being put through a fraternity initiation and found myself going back. My assumption that Giovanni didn't want me in the mansion anymore was wrong. There was not just an avenue to. I knocked on the gate, and the gatekeeper opened. As I entered, cocked guns were pointed towards me. One more step and I would be gunned down. I heard a voice and in the direction. “Weapons down, guys. She's my friend.” Then, they put down the gun as commanded. I walked closer and hugged her. “I got scared for a moment. I thought I was going to die and was about to say my last prayers already.” I laughed at the last statement. “They didn't know you came for me. It'

  • In Love With My Disguised Bodyguard    Chapter 38

Juliano's POV A few days passed. No matter how much I wanted things to go back to normal, they didn’t. My sister was still in there, and I was very much aware. She’d hate me for leaving her there for too long, for years. Sophia was so strategic. I blessed the day I sent her there. Who would have known?I've been spending time in the library, in the silence, to enjoy moments of inner peace. The only difference was that I couldn't focus. Allysia's photo kept replaying in the back of my mind like a recurring nightmare. My skin prickles with unease. Where is the peace when I found out my sister wasn't dead for the past years? Else, she was somewhere suffering, and I was living freely. I felt the survivor's guilt. It should have happened to me instead. Maybe I could have saved myself."Please come back, Allysia; I promise to celebrate all your birthdays I've missed.” I said to myself. She always wanted to celebrate her birthdays with me. I was sure she'd have forgotten what a birthday fe

  • In Love With My Disguised Bodyguard    Chapter 37

Skai’s POV He was the last person I expected to meet there. He's everywhere, like the asphyxiating smoke in his eyes. He walked closer with quick strides. He's a foreshadowing of my misfortune – just as I had sensed that it would be. I was frozen to where I was like a kid that had his lip stuck to a pump handle in the wintertime. I tried to scrub my mind; there was nothing. I struggle with excuses whenever I'm caught off guard. “Sophia, what are you doing here?” He asked with his facial expression demanding an answer. He was watching me with an unnerving focus like he’s a ravenous predator salivating after his prey. He looked up the name of the restaurant. “This is Bella Vita, Sophia.” I didn't know what to say. It was like my tongue was stuck. After talking to Juliano like a soldier giving war orders. “I came to have lunch with an old friend.” I wasn't really telling a lie at that moment, just a changed dynamic. “It's an expensive restaurant, not for the middle class. Not a

  • In Love With My Disguised Bodyguard    Chapter 36

Skai’s POV I entered the restaurant. It was the same place as the last one. It was late afternoon now; only a few customers were scattered at the table. I went straight to the reservation area after informing the waitress. I was still in my office wear. There was no need to change my outfit since it was urgent. I wasn't even thinking straight about what he might want to talk about. Whatever the matter might be, he sounded really different. Did he find out anything? I don't think so. There was not a bit of fury in his voice. So what might it be? The thought had been peeping into my mind at intervals like a kid playing a hide-and-seek game. It could run through my mind like a flash whenever I was busy, and then it's gone. I walked into the room, unprepared for what was about to happen. Maybe he was about to order me not to return to the LIAS. He sat down in the dimly lit room close to the end. There was no drink in front of him. My heart skipped, as it seemed to be a serious meeting
