Chapter 138: Separation

Layla was surprised. Then she smiled wryly, "You heard that?"

"Not all of it. What's going on?" I rolled my wheelchair towards her.

Layla sighed. "I did not plan to tell you this. Can't you just pretend you did not hear anything?"

"I am involved and I guess you are implicated because of me. This situation is affecting and burdening you. You should not shield me. I have the right to know."

Layla sighed again. She looked like she was torn whether to say it or not. I said a few more words to convince her to tell me. Finally, under my stubborn gaze, Layla gave in.

"After your win the case, the Mckenzie hold a meeting with the other Golden Corps. They were angry that you won the case and suspected that we are helping you out. They especially questioned the Cruz family for their involvement. They demanded to have you be isolated from us and stop you from meeting us."
