Masuk“This will be your room” the older woman spoke as she pushed a door at the end of the hall way open
Daniella walked in her eyes observing the entire room, she said nothing to the woman and only nodded.
“Don’t you speak?” The woman asked honestly Daniella has been too quiet for her liking and it was getting on her nerves
“I am sorry ma’am but there’s nothing much I can say” for the first time inside the house Daniella spoke, her voice sounded so soft and sweet the woman smiled and walked away.
Daniella pushed her way through walking straight to the bed after closing the door behind her she sat down on the bed her memory flashes back to
13 Years ago….
“Daniella come here you’re going to fall off that tree” her father screamed as he ran after her
“Papa no I want to stay here I feel on top of the world” 5 years old Daniella giggled as she watched her father scream her name
“You’re going to fall down child” her father shouted worriedly but Daniella was lost in her own world of laughter and happiness.
The family was comfortable, they lived at the extreme end of the village, Daniella’s father had the biggest farm in the village he cultivated different types of crops and food being a hard working man ever since he was little he found his wife Emily few years ago before he moved into the village.
He had tried doing everything possible to court her, but Emily was such a stubborn lady. She’d watch him buy her multiple gifts allowing him to speak sweet words into her ears but she was never ready to settle down and obviously Derrick didn’t stop, he had developed such strong feelings for her he was doing everything possible to make sure she became his.
After a while Emily found herself falling for this man and she decided to say yes to his proposal, they both got married and a year after they gave birth to Daniella.
Daniella came into a world where she never lacked anything, she had both motherly and fatherly love, she was such a smart child while growing up but sadly her mother died of a terrible sickness three years after.
So yes it was just her dad left in the whole world to her.
“Papa I want corn balls” Daniella whispered as her father picked her up from the ground she was completely covered in mud and was looking all dirty.
“Well you’ve been a very bad girl today, you’re so stubborn just like your mother” her father sighed in frustration
“I am sorry papa” she whipped
“Ok fine promise you’d be a good girl tomorrow and I will give you corn balls”
“I promise” her sad pouty face lit up into a beautiful smile
Derrick loved his daughter so much, she was everything to him.
“But first you’d have to take your bath so I am going to give you to charity to go and give you a hot bath” he held her tiny fingers speaking.
“I wish mummy was here, she used to sing for me anytime she wants to give me a bath” the room went silent Derrick looked at his five years old daughter searching for the best world but couldn’t find it.
He missed his Emily so much “he remembered when she died he had locked himself up for a full month straight, everyone thought he was going to die soon but one thing that kept him going was his daughter so of course he’d do everything possible to make sure he protects her.
“Papa” Daniella called out as she held her dull and drifting sixteen percent of her attention to it
“Yes what is it my princess” Derrick answered cleaning off the mud on her face
“When is mummy coming back? you said she was going to travel for a long while, but daddy it’s been too long and I miss her already” she grumbled looking at her father innocently.
“Of course I know how much you miss your mother, she'd be back soon ok” Derrick lied again, he can’t bring his daughter to believing she has lost her mother forever. He was not going to tell definitely not now but maybe in the future.
“Ok ok” the little child nodded her head and walked inside following the maid to go give her a bath.
The day was getting drowned by the night when one of Derick’s workers rushed up to him, his face looking all worried and scary.
“What’s going on?” Derrick asked
“It’s bad sir… really bad” the young man in his middle twenties spoke trying to catch his breath because he had been running for a while now
“Bad? Come on let’s talk outside” Derrick whispered as he slowly pulled him outside to avoid his daughter from hearing the conversation.
“What’s really happening?” He asked again his face curving into worry
“Some men are here in the village and their intentions are not good, they are organ harvesters!” The man screamed his eyes popping out
“What? How …. How did you get to know about this?”
“I went for a drink and I heard them talking, they are looking for a child, according to them their boss isn’t feeling too well and they want a heart.”
The man trembled as he talked, he was completely terrified after hearing the men speak earlier.
Derrick swallowed, he knew something was wrong and somehow his heart pricked him hard.
“It’s fine thank you for this information, I will talk to my brother about this” he shivered trying to hide his fears away.
“Alright sir” the young man walked away and got swallowed in the darkness.
“Papa, what's going on?” Daniella who had been ears dropping in the conversation for a while now spoke up
She had followed her father when he walked outside to speak to the young man, she recognized the fear in his face; it was the exact fear he had when her mother passed. And Daniella being a sharp and calculated child knew something was definitely wrong.
“Ha! I thought I told you to go and take your bath?” Her father changed the topic immediately he saw her. Daniella was too little to get involved in things like this and he wanted to make sure she avoided it.
The drive to the old Harper estate was silent.Daniella sat in the passenger seat, staring at the flash drive in her hand. It was small enough to fit between two fingers, yet it supposedly contained the names of everyone connected to Crown Meridian. For thirteen years, she had searched for the truth about her father’s death. Now she finally had something that could expose it.And she had no idea whether opening it would destroy everything she believed about her family.Christian drove with both hands on the steering wheel. His uncle sat in the back seat.Daniella glanced at him through the mirror.“You’re sure the estate is safe?”“No,” he answered.Christian gave him a sharp look.“That’s reassuring.”His uncle ignored the comment.“The estate hasn’t been occupied in years. Your father had it sealed after my sister died.”“Your sister?”“My mother,” Christian said quietly.Daniella looked at him.Christian’s uncle continued.“Evelyn left several private records there. Samuel never fo
The warehouse fell silent.Daniella crouched behind a stack of storage boxes, her heart pounding as footsteps moved somewhere beyond the shelves.Christian kept one arm in front of her while holding his gun in the other.“Stay down,” he whispered.Across the warehouse, Daniella could barely see her uncle. He was crouched behind another storage unit, his face tense.“The person who killed my father is someone I trusted,” Daniella whispered. Her uncle looked at her.“Yes.”“Who?”He opened his mouth.Another gunshot exploded. The bullet struck the metal shelf above him.Daniella flinched.“Not here,” her uncle shouted. “They’ll kill all of us.”Christian looked toward the entrance.“How many?”Her uncle shook his head.“I don’t know.”“Then start talking.”“I will.”“You have ten seconds.”Her uncle stared at Daniella.“The person behind Crown Meridian isn’t one person.”Daniella frowned.“What does that mean?”“It means there is a network. People in government, finance, law enforcement
The cemetery was almost empty when Christian parked the car.A cold wind moved through the trees, carrying the smell of wet earth. Daniella stared through the windshield at the rows of graves stretching into the darkness.Christian’s mother had been buried here thirteen years ago.The same year Daniella’s father died. The timing wasn’t lost on either of them.Christian switched off the engine.“You’re sure about this?” Daniella asked.“No.”She looked at him.“But I know we can’t ignore it.”They stepped out of the car.Christian carried a flashlight while Daniella held the diary against her chest. Neither spoke as they walked between the graves. After several minutes, Christian stopped.“This way.”They continued until they reached a large marble headstone.Daniella looked at the name.Evelyn Harper.Christian stood silently in front of it.Daniella watched him.“You don’t have to talk about her.”“I want to.”He stared at the grave.“My mother was different before she got sick. She
Daniella stared at the photograph on her phone.Ask Christian about his mother. For several seconds, she couldn’t move.Christian stood beside her, his attention fixed on the message. His expression changed the moment he read it.“What does my mother have to do with this?”“I don’t know.”“Then why would they send you that?”Daniella looked down at the photograph again. It showed her and Christian standing beside the lemon tree only minutes earlier.Someone had been watching them.Someone close enough to photograph them without being noticed.Christian took the phone from her hand.“Whoever sent this knows where we are.”“And they know something about your mother.”He looked at her.Daniella immediately noticed the change in his face.“You know something.”Christian’s jaw tightened.“Daniella—”“No. Don’t do that.”“Do what?”“Don’t tell me you don’t know what they’re talking about.”He looked away. That was enough.Daniella stepped back.“Christian.”He rubbed his jaw.“My mother die
The old house looked smaller than Daniella remembered. She sat in the passenger seat staring through the windshield as Christian parked beside the overgrown driveway. The property had been abandoned for years, but the walls were still standing. Most of the windows were covered with wooden boards, and weeds had swallowed nearly the entire front yard.Daniella had not returned since the night her father died. She had avoided the place for thirteen years. Now she was back because of a diary her mother had apparently hidden beneath a lemon tree.Christian switched off the engine.“You don’t have to do this tonight.”Daniella looked at him.“Yes, I do.”“Someone shot at us less than an hour ago.”“And someone knows we’re coming here.”“That is exactly my point.”Daniella looked toward the backyard.“If whoever sent that message wanted me to stay away, they shouldn’t have told me what was buried here.”Christian studied her face.“You think they’re trying to scare you away.”“I think they’r
Daniella read the sentence again.Ask the woman who raised you where she buried it.Her fingers tightened around the paper.Christian stood beside her, watching her carefully. “Daniella?”She didn’t answer. Her mind had already gone to one person.Maria.Aunt Maria had been part of her life for as long as she could remember. After her father’s death, Maria had stayed with Daniella and her uncle. She had cooked for her, taken care of her, comforted her through nightmares and helped her survive the years after losing her father.Maria had been family. But apparently, she had also been keeping secrets.“Christian,” Daniella finally said, “we need to find Maria.”He looked at the note.“Your aunt?”Daniella nodded.“She knows where my mother’s diary is.”Christian’s expression hardened. “Then we ask her.”They drove to Maria’s house.Daniella spent the entire journey trying to remember anything unusual about her aunt. There had always been things she couldn’t explain.Maria never liked di
The door knob twisted sideways, Daniella froze, for a moment she felt her entire world crumbling right in front of her, the job hadn't even started yet and now she was going to be caught holy father. How did she not hear his car coming in? And just then her instinct kicked in, her brain acting fas
The night was filled with nothing but laughter, peace and joy music blasting every angel of the compound left right and center, people chatting happily and freely walking around with drinks in their hands. Ladies wore bun shorts patrolling the environment looking for men to absorb their millions.
Daniella slowly opened her tiny eyes as she rubbed her hands across them trying to clear way for a better vision. It was morning already but instead of meeting the usual calm comfortable home she met an unrecognized environment. The house was too calm and the aura wasn’t really good. But I mean s
The knock came at the door, just as Derrick had finally put Daniella to sleep, his heart froze for a moment, but he forced himself to relax. But then again his mind started to play the what if game, I mean it was past midnight who would be visiting this late. He swallowed as he heard the loud ba
