The knock came at the door, just as Derrick had finally put Daniella to sleep, his heart froze for a moment, but he forced himself to relax.

But then again his mind started to play the what if game, I mean it was past midnight who would be visiting this late.

He  swallowed as he heard the loud bang on the door again

Daniella, who had been sleeping peacefully, slowly opened her eyes as a result of the noise.

She turned swiftly looking at her father, there it was that same face. Fear written all over them, the same face he wore the day she lost her mother.

“Papa… what’s going on?” She asked him as her tiny eye brow folded into confusion

“Go back to bed” he whispered looking all serious

“But papa someone is….”

“Daniella…bed now!” He repeated, sharper this time.

She went quiet.

Derrick walked towards the door, his heart beating like he had been running for miles now.

The knock came again this time slower.

When he finally turned the door knob and the door tore open allowing the chill cold air to rest on his face.

Standing in front of him were three men who looked surprisingly good and well dressed. But then something about them felt off.

What brought them to his home by this time

“Good evening” one of them said, he had the polish Uk accent.

Derrick didn’t respond immediately, he made sure to grip the edge of his door tightly still looking at them in confusion.

“What do you want?” He asked his voice firmly

“We would like to have a word with you” one of the men spoke tapping his feet on the ground acting all impatient.

Derrick stepped outside and pulled the door from behind

“My daughter is sleeping” his voice sounded quite harsh “say want you want and leave it’s late!”

The men exchanged glances then the one in front took a closer step

“We heard you have a child”

Derrick's jaw tightened

“I have many things and none of them concern you” he could hear his stomach filled with fear.

The man grinned evilly then continued

“We’re not here to cause trouble” he looked around “Infact we are here to offer you something”

“I am not interested” Derrick cut him shortly

“You’ve not heard of the offer yet!”

“I don’t need to”

They went silent staring at each other as if speaking with their eyes, the one from behind stepped forward.

“It’s for a good cause” the man added “an important one at that… our employer is unaware and…”

Derrick’s eyes hardened

“And that concerns me how?”

“He needs a heart” the air felt heavy as the words dropped out of his mouth, just like he suspected evil has landed on his door.

Derrick looked at them in disbelief

“And you think?” Derrick said slowly “you can come to my house in the middle of the night and ask for my child?”

“We’re not asking” one of the men spoke

Derrick stepped forward, his eyes hot and red; they weren’t calm any more, just anger and warning written in them.

“You should leave”

The men grinned staring at each other one of them spoke up his voice soft almost a whisper

“You see erm Derrick? That’s your name right?” He asked Derrick face lit up in shock

“We get what we want whenever we want it so yes we will return” he turned around immediately and the others followed as they walked out of the building.

Derrick knew this wasn’t over, they would definitely come back and he needed to protect his family, the only one left.

Behind the door was Daniella. She stood there shocked and confused, her tiny brain trying to process what those men came to talk to her father for, something was fist and she could smell it.

Derrick turned swiftly about to head inside when his eyes met with that of confused Daniella shocked and worried.

For a moment none of them said a word. He walked up to Daniella and grabbed her off the floor

“You didn’t go to bed pumpkin” he queried

“Papa, who were they?”

Derrick didn’t answer he looked at his daughter holding her tighter

“Don’t worry you’re safe, nothing would happen to you” he smiled

“Do they know where mom is?” Curious little Daniella just kept asking hoping to get an answer but mom was forthcoming her dad kept sweeping the issue under the floor.

“You know you're a very stubborn child just like your mom” he dropped her off and gave her clear instructions to go inside and sleep.

Derrick stood at the door shaking, he looked into the darkness checking to see if he’d get a glimpse of the men but didn’t.

He could feel his heavy heart, the night had gone colder than usual, he could still feel their presence even though he didn’t catch sight of them.

He had seen men like that before, not in the village, not this close but he knew this type

These type of men didn’t need to shout

They didn’t need to threaten

They come in the night and take what they want when they want it and he knew it was only a matter of time if he didn’t do something immediately.

He looked in the direction of his farm and everything was peaceful, too peaceful only his fear was so loud they were ringing bells in his head.

He was about heading inside when he heard a sudden rustling sound coming from behind the house, he turned sharply, his legs trembling.

“Who’s there?” He called out pretending to be all strong

He slowly walked in the direction and just when he thought he saw a shadow move just as it appeared it was gone.

He held his chest firmly and made a U turn heading back into the house

Whatever was out there he won’t be chasing it tonight not with his daughter inside putting her in any form of trouble he’d never forgive himself.

He walked in and shut the doors behind him.

  • In Love with my Father’s Serial Killer    The Music Box

The hidden passage was barely wide enough for two people to walk side by side. Christian kept one hand around Daniella’s wrist as they moved through the darkness, while the sound of footsteps above them became fainter with every second.Daniella’s mind was still trapped in the underground room. Her uncle was still there.Gabriel was still there. And whoever had arrived at Crown Meridian had been frightening enough to make Gabriel himself afraid.“Christian,” she whispered.“Keep moving.”“We can’t leave them.”“We’re not leaving them forever. We’re getting out so we can figure out what we’re dealing with.”“But my uncle—”“Daniella.” Christian stopped and turned toward her. “If we go back there without knowing how many people are upstairs, we won’t save him. We’ll just give them two more people to capture.”She hated that he was right. She swallowed and continued walking.A few minutes later, the passage opened into an old maintenance room behind the building. Christian pushed through

  • In Love with my Father’s Serial Killer    The man she remembered

Daniella couldn’t move. The man standing at the bottom of the staircase looked older than he had in her childhood memory, but there was no mistaking him. The scar near his left eyebrow was still there. So was the black ring on his finger, its silver symbol catching the faint emergency light. She had seen him before. She had trusted him before. And somehow, she had never known his name.“Gabriel,” her uncle whispered. The man’s mouth curved into a small smile. “It’s been a long time.”Daniella’s stomach twisted.Christian immediately stepped in front of her. “You know him?”Gabriel’s eyes moved toward Christian. “Of course I know him. I knew his father too.”Christian’s posture hardened. “Then you know exactly what happened thirteen years ago.”Gabriel chuckled. “You still sound like Samuel when you’re angry.”“Don’t mention my father.”“Why? Because you still believe everything he told you?”Christian took a step forward.Daniella grabbed his arm.“Don’t.”Gabriel’s eyes returned to h

  • In Love with my Father’s Serial Killer    The Other brother

Daniella read the message three times before she handed the phone to Christian. But you’re still blaming the wrong brother. His expression shifted the moment the words registered. He did not ask who the message meant. They both already knew. Her uncle had a brother.A brother she had never heard of.A brother her father had apparently known.A brother connected to Crown Meridian. And now someone was telling her she had spent thirteen years blaming the wrong one.“Who is my uncle’s brother?” she asked.Christian looked up. “That’s what we’re going to find out.”He called the security team at once and ordered a full search of every available record connected to her uncle. Daniella paced beside the desk while he spoke, her mind looping back to the recording. Her father’s voice. Samuel Harper’s name. The unidentified man. And the sentence that had been cut short just as it reached the most important word. His name is—For thirteen years she had believed her uncle was the one who held ever

  • In Love with my Father’s Serial Killer    The Recording

The drive sat on the center console between them, small and ordinary and somehow heavier than anything else in the car. Daniella could not stop staring at it. A few megabytes. That was all. Yet the file name burned behind her eyes.10-17-13.mp3.The date her father died. The date Samuel Harper—and possibly others—had gathered at Crown Meridian. The date that had sat at the center of her life for thirteen years like a stone she could never quite dislodge.Christian drove with both hands locked on the wheel, jaw set, expression unreadable. They had barely spoken since leaving the Crown Meridian building. The silence felt denser than the traffic around them.Daniella finally broke it.“You heard what he said.”Christian’s grip tightened. “I heard him.”“He said your father knew.”“I know.”“About what happened to mine.”He glanced at her, then back to the road. “We don’t know that yet.”“The message on the phone said my father discovered something about Samuel.”Christian said nothing.S

  • In Love with my Father’s Serial Killer    Room 314

The old Crown Meridian building looked nothing like Daniella had imagined. It stood at the end of a narrow street surrounded by newer buildings, its stone exterior darkened by years of rain and neglect. Most of the windows were covered with metal shutters, and a faded sign above the entrance was barely readable.CROWN MERIDIAN HOLDINGS.Daniella stared at it from inside the car.“This place has been abandoned for years,” Christian said.“Not completely.”She pointed toward the side of the building.A security light had just switched on.Christian followed her gaze.Someone was there. He immediately reached for his phone.“Stay in the car.”Daniella turned toward him. “Absolutely not.”“Daniella.”“My uncle is inside.”“And we don’t know who else is inside.”“Exactly. That’s why I’m coming.”Christian stared at her for several seconds before giving up.“Fine. But you stay beside me.”They got out of the car.The street was almost completely empty. Daniella could hear the sound of her o

  • In Love with my Father’s Serial Killer    The Price of knowing

Daniella stared at the photograph on her phone until her eyes began to ache. Her uncle was sitting in a dark room with his hands tied behind a wooden chair. There was blood on the corner of his mouth, but he was conscious. His head was slightly lowered, his expression difficult to read. Whoever had taken the photograph had made sure his face was visible.Christian stood beside her, his expression hardening as he studied the image.“Send it to me.”Daniella immediately forwarded the photograph.“Can you trace where it came from?”“Not from the photograph itself.” Christian pulled out his phone. “But whoever sent this may have made a mistake.”Daniella looked at him. “What mistake?”“The image was sent directly to your phone. That means there’s a communication trail. Give me a minute.”He stepped away and began working.Daniella looked around her uncle’s study again. A few minutes ago, this room had been filled with questions. Now it felt like the answers were closing in around her.Her

  • In Love with my Father’s Serial Killer    The Mission she never expected

“I want you to go undercover.” The moment the words left Christian’s mouth, Daniella genuinely thought she had heard him wrongly. She stared at him from across the office, her brows slowly pulling together in confusion while her brain tried to process what he had just said. “W

  • In Love with my Father’s Serial Killer    A Seat she shouldn’t have

“My secretary,” Christian said simply. “Starting now.” The words did not settle immediately. They hung in the air between them, heavy, unexpected, almost unreal. Daniella stared at him, her brows slowly knitting together as if her mind refused to process what she had just heard.

  • In Love with my Father’s Serial Killer    A game of Distraction

The door didn’t just open; it slammed against the wall with enough force to snap Daniella out of whatever storm she had just walked into. She flinched. Her body jerked slightly as her grip tightened around the file in her hand. “Jesus Christ!” she breathed out, her chest rising sharply. “

  • In Love with my Father’s Serial Killer    The Night they couldn’t ignore

The mansion felt and smelt different that evening, of course it was the day everyone has been waiting for, the day contract would be signed, people would display everything their nonchalant teachers have been teaching them. It was D NIGHT. Even the staff moved differently, quieter, more care
