Tabitha:

I looked at myself in the mirror and sighed. My dress and my hair didn’t look so perfect anymore. I looked tired and depressed. This was certainly not the look that I wanted to carry into see Nanatsha, but what could I really do about it?

My phone sat on the dressing table, the screen was faced down. I couldn’t bear to see another notification. The thought already made my stomach churn uncomfortably. I still couldn’t believe that Ryan was dead. I knew that if he was still alive and we went through with the court case, he was going to spend time in jail, but I didn’t believe that he would die. The thought never crossed my mind.

His face when I saw him that day still plagued me. He looked so scruffy and unkempt. He used to look so handsome and young, and now he looked like he had aged ten years in just a few weeks.

“Enough brooding, Tabitha,” I muttered to myself and looked at the time on my phone. It was 7:30 p.m. It was time to leave.

Enzo:Mr. Bolden stretched his hand out to shake mine. For a man his age, his grip was strong. He smiled at me and gave a thoughtful nod to Tabitha, who was at my side. “My daughter was the one who set this all up.” His voice was surprisingly clear for a man his age as well. “I’m not really all for fancy dinners, but it is wonderful that you grace my home with your very capable secretary. I saw on the news the launch of your new car, and I had to say that she did stunning work.”Tabitha blushed beside me, and I smiled. It was nice to see her in such a great mood despite everything. “Should we all head to the dining table?” he said, leading the way. We followed. Except for his hunch and his slow walking pace, Mr. Bolden was in excellent health. The dinner table was set, and we each took our seats. I was happy that Tabitha chose a chair next to me. It was a small gesture, but I appreciated it nonetheless. “Everything is set, grandpa.”I recognized that voice. I looked up and I clas

Enzo:It was almost 6 pm. My phone buzzed; the driver was waiting downstairs. I sighed. I was able to get some work done, but every time I remembered that I was supposed to have dinner with Natasha and her father, my energy was siphoned. If only I could skip this part of my day. The driver was quiet. I kept looking at my phone, expecting a text from Tabitha. At least I wanted to get confirmation that she got her food. But I made that order hours ago. If she had probably gotten it, she was definitely going to text me about it. "I was a little too hard on her in the morning," I muttered, running my hands down my face. I was exhausted, but I had to suck it up and get ready for tonight. Mr. Bolden was an old-school businessman. I was going to have to pull out all the stops to even have a chance of swaying him to make many more investments between his company and mine. The car was parked in front of the mansion, but I didn't get out immediately. I sat in the back, my mind circling th

Tabitha:Emily bugged me on the phone for almost an entire hour and even offered to come visit me. I declined repeatedly, which made her feel almost offended. “You nearly died, and you don’t want me to see you. It’s serious, isn’t it? You don’t want me to see you because the injury is so serious. Tell me the truth, are you going to die?”“No, Emily. I am not going to die. I am fine. I just need some rest. I promise I will come see you when I am all better.”“You promise?”“I do. I have to go now. I promise I will keep in touch with you.”The call finally ended, and I lay on the sofa with a smile on my face. It was nice talking to her; it made everything that had happened today feel a lot lighter. But the lightness was short-lived. It didn’t take long for my chest to cave in. Enzo was still mad at me. It was almost noon, and I still hadn’t heard from him. Normally, the chef would have come around to prepare lunch, but after the fiasco this morning, I was highly doubtful that he was co

  • In My Godfather’s Bed    97. Enzo

Enzo:For an entire hour, since I got to the office, I couldn’t do a single thing. I didn’t even have to come in today, but with how everything had gone this morning, I just couldn’t stay home. The thought kept racing in my head, and with every second, they morphed into something worse. Maybe it wasn’t an accident. Maybe he had been standing there for ages, watching her, maybe Tabitha was lying to me, and he did touch her, maybe he wanted to touch her… maybe, maybe, maybe… It was exhausting. I slumped back into my chair. My phone caught the corner of my eye, and I picked it up. The first name on my call log was Tabitha’s. My finger floated over the dial button, but soon I set the phone down. I was still mad at her. I wasn’t ready to talk just yet. It just didn’t make sense. If it was a mistake, why did she feel the need to keep it from me?I sighed and leaned forward again. The last few days had been way too much for me. It felt like every second, there was something new coming up

Tabitha:I wasn’t sure how long I had been lying on the bed. The tears had stopped, and my body ached. I sat up and saw the sheets on the floor. The quiet of the mansion got to me, and I imagined the worst. “Enzo. No…”I got up from the bed and opened the door slightly. It creaked, and my breath caught in my throat. The silence amplified it, and it seemed to echo throughout the hallway. It was quiet. There was no noise from the kitchen, and I slowly headed downstairs. I thought that I would see Enzo or the chef hurt on the kitchen floor, but I was wrong. Enzo sat at the dining table, coffee in hand and breakfast on his plate. I saw him flinch as soon as I came downstairs, but he didn’t even look at me. He took another bite of the toast in front of him and continued to act like I wasn’t there. My heart skipped a beat. He was mad at me, and it was all my fault. I should have said something. I should have been honest about what had actually happened, but it was a mistake. I knew it was
