Chapter 36
This wasn’t exactly how I had planned on introducing Morpheus to my friends. In fact, it was far from it. I had thought that I would slowly bring them together... think again.
“So, you’re Morpheus.” Vi beamed (well as much as a gothic chick could).
“Hello Violet. It is a privilege to meet one of Callista’s friends.”
I stood in shock as Morpheus bowed to her formally.
Face, meet palm.
Vi, on the other hand, didn’t seem to think that there was anything strange about it. She curtseyed back and tucked her hand into the crook of Morpheus’ elbow as she led him to the sitting room.
Unsure of what to do, I found myself in the kitchen pouring glasses of lemonade and cursing the blasted coffee maker. I was in desperate need of caffeine.
“So, are you staying for dinner?” I heard Vi ask Morpheus.

“So? What were the dreams about?”The crew and I sat at our usual table in the cafeteria, munching on the day’s hamburger and fries specialty. Ricky looked up at me from devouring his burger, surprise written across his face.“Oh, nothing really. My eyes fluttered open groggily as the sun spilt into the room, illuminating the dark blue walls and cream coloured bedding. My eyes flew open with a start as I realised that this was not my bedroom and that the back which faced me did not belong to my giant teddy bear which frequently shares my bed with me. It took me a few moments to realise that I was lying on my brother’s bed and that the back actually belonged to Nik.The previous night had been an utter blast complete with lots of delicious food, plenty of dancing and crazy uncles singing drunkenly to some Greek band from the eighties. “Good evening, my sweet.”As usual, the sound of Dareios’ voice sent chills down my spine and every cell in my body wanted to flee. However, I didn’t give in to that impulse – not this time at least. My eyes flew open and I sat up gasping for air – like in a movie when the actress or actor has a bad dream. Only mine wasn’t a bad dream. Mine was reality. “Stop hitting me like a girl and put your back into it, child!” Zara ordered, flinging her duelling mask across the arena in frustration and revealing those green eyes which seemed to pierce into the inner core of my being.She had lost her stiff and respectful demeanour soon after she began training me, and quite frankly I was relieved.
