Evelyn's pov

"What?" I finally exclaimed after looking at my stepmother's face for several seconds with total speechlessness. All the words that my brain was trying to humiliate were hooked on my throat until I finally said that.

She repeated what she had said with the same emotionless detachment as if we were just talking about replacing a piece of old furniture that was no longer usable anymore and not my father's life.

"You can't take my father off life support!" I yelled at her, "...I won't let you…"

"Are you forgetting that I'm still his legal wife? I have a say on whether or not he should stay on life support…"
