Serena’s POV

I woke slowly, the way you do when sleep doesn’t end all at once but loosens its grip little by little.

For a brief, disoriented moment, I forgot where I was. Then memory settled back into place gentle, unhurried.

And then I felt it.

The weight near my legs.

I opened my eyes.

The living room came into focus: muted morning light slipping through the curtains, the television long turned off, the kind of quiet that exists only before the world fully wakes.

And then I saw Roman.

  • In the Arms of the Enemy’s Brother    Chapter 104

Roman’s POV I sat on the edge of our bed, watching Serena as she stood in front of the full-length mirror in our bedroom. Her hand rested gently on her belly, fingers spreading out over the soft fabric of her loose maternity dress. The dress was light blue, one of the new ones we'd bought last week when her old clothes started feeling too tight. She turned sideways, a small smile tugging at her lips as she examined her reflection. "Look at that," she said softly, her voice full of wonder. "It's really starting to show." I stood up and walked over to her, wrapping my arms around her waist from behind. My hands joined hers on her belly, feeling the slight curve that hadn't been there a few weeks ago. It was just a gentle swell now, but to us, it felt like the biggest change in the world. "Yeah," I whispered into her ear, kissing her neck lightly. "Our little one is making themselves known." Serena leaned back against me, her head resting on my shoulder. These moments were my favori

Serena’s POV The moment I found out I was pregnant, everything in my body seemed to change all at once. Right after that, the symptoms hit me hard. It was like my body knew and decided to make it real. Morning sickness started that same day. I felt nauseous all the time, but worst in the mornings. I would wake up, and before I even got out of bed, my stomach would churn. I ran to the bathroom and threw up. It was not just once. It happened every morning. Sometimes two or three times. My vomit was mostly bile because I could not keep anything down. Eating became impossible. I barely ate anything. Food that I loved before now made me gag. The smell of it was the worst. Even the smell of toast or eggs, which Roman made for breakfast, sent me running. I hated the smell of coffee, which I used to drink every day. Chicken, my favorite, now smelled rotten to me. I tried crackers or ginger ale, things people say help, but even those turned my stomach. I lost weight fast. In one week, I dro

  • In the Arms of the Enemy’s Brother    Chapter 102

Roman’s POV I woke up this morning with a heavy feeling in my chest. Serena lay beside me, her face pale under the soft light filtering through the curtains. She had not been feeling well since yesterday. Her skin felt warm to the touch, like a low fire burning inside her. She curled up under the blankets, her breathing slow and uneven. I watched her for a moment, my hand gently brushing her hair back from her forehead. She did not even stir. She had come home two days ago looking completely drained. Her steps were slow as she walked in, slipping off her shoes by the door.“I’m okay,” she said when I asked, but her voice didn’t carry its usual spark. Now, in the soft morning light, she still looked weak. She hadn’t gotten out of bed at all the day before, her assistant, Mia, had to handle everything at the shop. I sat on the edge of the bed, now getting ready to leave for work, my hand resting gently on her shoulder as I asked how she was feeling. She gave me a small smile, tryin

Serena’s POV The alarm on my phone buzzes softly from the nightstand, pulling me from a dream where I'm arranging bolts of silk in endless rows. I reach out, my arm heavy like it's filled with sand, and silence it with a tap. The room is still dim, the early morning light just starting to peek around the edges of the heavy curtains Roman hung last summer. He said they would block out the street noise, and they do, but this morning, I wish for a bit more brightness to jolt me awake. I lie there, staring at the ceiling fan spinning lazily above. Normally, by now, I'd be up, feet hitting the cool hardwood floor, heading to the kitchen for a quick cup of coffee before diving into the day. But today, my body refuses to move. It's as if every muscle has decided to stage a quiet rebellion, pinning me down under the soft weight of the duvet. I blink a few times, willing myself to sit up, but a wave of tiredness crashes over me, deeper than any late night at the shop has ever caused. The s

Roman’s POV I sat at my desk in the office, staring at the computer screen even though the day's work was done. The clock on the wall ticked past seven in the evening, and the building felt quiet now, with most people already gone home. My mind wasn't on reports or emails, though. It kept drifting back to Serena and her shop. That surprise I planned for her opening, it had all come together just right, and seeing her light up like that still warmed me from the inside out. It started a few months ago, on one of those quiet evenings when we were curled up on the couch. Serena had her head on my shoulder, already a little sleepy, when she mentioned it, how she wanted to own a fashion shop. “Somewhere I can sell pieces that make people feel confident and beautiful,” she had said softly. She sounded tired, but I still caught the spark in her voice, the way her eyes lit up even in that moment. Right then, I knew I wanted to make it happen for her. Seeing her happy, that smile she gives w

  • In the Arms of the Enemy’s Brother    Chapter 99

Serena’s POV The snow fell softly outside our window on Christmas morning, blanketing everything in a quiet white glow. I woke up to the smell of pine from the tree we had decorated together the night before. Roman's arm was wrapped around my waist, his breath warm against my neck. This was our first Christmas as husband and wife, and my heart felt so full it might burst. "Merry Christmas, baby ," he murmured, pulling me closer. His voice was husky from sleep, and it sent a shiver through me. We lay there for a while, just holding each other, listening to the crackle of the fire we'd lit the evening before. The house was cozy, filled with twinkling lights and the scent of cinnamon from the cookies we'd baked. The day felt calm and beautiful, like everything was moving just right. We started by opening gifts under the tree. Roman had wrapped each of mine neatly, with little notes on them. I gave him his gifts too, and we both smiled and laughed as we opened everything. Later, we

Liam’s POV I couldn’t stay still. I paced from one end of the bedroom to the other, my footsteps echoing softly against the marble floor. Back and forth. Again and again. As if moving would stop the thoughts from crashing into me. It didn’t. My hands were tight at my sides, fingers curling and u

Serena’s POV That morning, I woke up before the city did. I lay there for a while, staring at the ceiling, listening to the faint hum of the apartment, air conditioning, distant traffic far below, the steady silence that had slowly become familiar. My body felt rested in a way I wasn’t used to. N

Roman’s POV Work trips had always been simple for me. You pack your bag. You get on a plane. You sit in rooms filled with men who talk too much and listen too little. You shake hands, sign papers, and return to a hotel room that looks exactly like the last one you slept in. Same neutral colors

Serena’s POV It’s been over a month now since I came to Roman’s house. Sometimes I forget the exact number of days. I stopped counting after a while. Counting made it feel temporary, like I was just passing through. And this place doesn’t feel like that anymore. It doesn’t feel like somewhere I’m
