{JENNA'S POV}

Earlier that day. . .

The multistorey car park was on the other side of town, on pillow street. I SIGHED, knowing I'll be dripping with sweat by the time I get there. As I walked, I rummaged in my handbag for the ticket I'll need to feed the pay station slot. I couldn't find it. I tried the zipped side pocket but it's not there either. And I've forgotten, yet again, to make a note of where I left my car, on what level and in which colour zone.

My mind rushed ahead of itself, panicking before any cause for panic has been established. Did I leave the ticket while camping in the woods? Did I remember where I left the ticket? I think I did both.

Only forty minutes to get to the multistorey car park before it closes. And I have to waste fifteen running back to the woods, panting, growling through gritted teeth in search of my ticket. WTF! What a waste of time?

* * *

I caught a glimpse of movement through the dusty haze ahead and wondered if it was the wolf I had seen loping in front of me earlier.

I glanced around, looking for my ticket with a worried frown, then looked for the wolf again, straining to see through the blowing dust.

Towards my left, the vague outlines of several conical tents could just be seen through the dry gritty wind.

" I don't think you are the only one who camps here, Jenna, " I said to myself halting.

I heard a menacing growl from deep in the wolf's throat and saw that his posture had shifted from a defensive stance to an aggressive one. He was ready to attack!

" I won't hurt you big wolf. Just don't hurt me either, " I said, walking to him and signalling with my hand at the same time. " Stay calm! I'm a friend of yours. " The wolf gave up his steady pursuit and bounded towards me. The wolf trotted beside me.

A gusty, fitful wind, holding the fine loess soil in suspension, swirled around us, obscuring our view of the tent.

I knelt beside the wolf, put one arm over his neck and the other across his chest, to calm him and hold him back if necessary. I could feel the snarl rumbling in his throat and the eager tautness of muscles ready to spring.

" It seems I have a wolf to accompany me in my journey of looking for my tickets, " I said smiling cheerfully.

Though it was still early in the summer, the strong winds off the massive glacier to the north were already desiccating the steppes in a wide bank south of the ice.

I felt the wolf tense and strain against my arm, then saw someone appear from behind the tent, dressed in overall and in a mask.

The figure shook a staff to us vigorously and shouted, " Go away! Leave this place! "

I thought it was a woman's voice shouting though the mask, but I wasn't sure. The figure moved to us, shaking the staff again, while I held back the wolf. Then the figure shaking the staff and high stepping towards us quickly, then back again, as though trying to scare us off or drive us away, and succeeding, at least in frightening me.

I was surprised that the wolf was so ready to attack, wolves seldom threatened people. But, remembering behaviour I had observed, I thought I understood. I had often watched wolves when I was teaching myself to hunt, and I knew they were affectionate and loyal____ to their own pack. But they were quick to drive strangers away from their territory and they had been known to kill other wolves to protect what they felt was theirs. Perhaps other people would be like strange wolves to him.

Now in unfamiliar territory, perhaps the territory of another pack, it would be natural for him to feel defensive when he first became aware of strangers, especially hostile strangers with staffs and swords.

I am surprised he didn't attack me or feel hostile to me. Perhaps I didn't look like a stranger; other people would be strange wolves to him.

He was growling at the figure shaking the staff.

I was trying my best not to be frightened by the figure. But everytime the figure pulled out a sword, fear grabbed my inner being.

The figure came nearer to us. . .

" I am here to find my ticket and then I saw this poor wolf. All I want to do is to help him get back to his pack. We are not bad people, " I said and began to go. The wolf followed behind me. We hurried to get away from the strange figure. My heart was slamming against my ribs, and my mouth was as dry as sand.

The figure quickly moved behind us. I reduced my pace. Instincts probably warned me. I stopped walking, and my head began to turn slowly. Sudden terror gripped me. I stiffened as the figure hit my head hardly with his staff twice. I dropped on my knees and then there was total blackout.

TWO DAYS LATER;

I opened my eyes. My dress is shredded, covered in dust and dirt. My knees and elbows are grazed, bleeding. It felt like though, I've been dragged all the way to wherever I am now. All over me, patches of skin had started to sting. A man was staring down at me.

I stared in shock at him, taken aback by his striking good looks, the dark blonde hair, blue eyed, nineteen years old. Smooth shaven, his jaw was masculine without being heavy, his cheek lean, his nose in perfect proportion to his other features. He was the most gorgeous, intensely handsome man, I had ever seen. Startled, my gaze clashed with his, the warmth and obvious interest in his riveting blue eyes enough to suck every scrap of air from my lungs.

" Hello girlie___ " he said huskily but impossibly intimate.

" I'm all right, really, " I said. " I think I'm fine. "

" I rescued you, " the man began to say. " I am Alpha Darrell. You can sit up now. "

I started to giggle but I felt my limbs feel as if they have been welded on to a tarmac.

" If you need me to help you sit up, you can just simply ask, " he said huskily.

I closed my eyes trying to will everything in my mind. Where was I? How did I get here? If I was kidnapped? Who this man was? Then without warning I let out a LITTLE SHARP SCREAM!!!

Darrell took hold of my hand and that made me want to scream out my ass. " Shut up, silly girl! " he snarled.

I shut up ridiculously.

He forced me to sit up. " One word from you and you will wish you died___ "

" Let me talk to her, " a lady said walking to me. She was dark-haired and blue eyed as well.

Darrell stood up. " When she must have calmed down, send her to me, " he said coldly.

" I will, " she said, sitting beside me.

Alpha Darrell left the room.

" Hello, I'm Luna Clara and I'm Alpha Darrell's mother. You are in the moonlight pack. Don't mind his behaviour, he has been a sad, cold, arrogant, heartless Alpha ever since his Luna left him and eloped with his brother to the human's land, " she said smiling. " You met him earlier in the woods. . . " she paused. " It has been a routine for him to spy on human's, hoping he would find his Luna until you met him today. . . "

I laughed. This people thought I had time to listen to what they had to say. " I want to go home___ "

" Alpha Darrell is the only one who can decide that. He has the final say when it comes to you, " Luna Clara said, patting my back.

" I've just been kidnapped, " I protested.

" No, you have just been saved. I will take you to see Alpha Darrell right now. "

I yawned. " For how long have I been here? " I asked.

" Two days, " Luna Clara said as she stood.

" Two days? You kidnapped me for two days? This is so unbelievable. Now, I'm going home and none of you can stop me. "

" Don't be stubborn child. You should go and see Alpha Darrell before he gets mad at you, " she said firmly.

Before I could protest further, she grabbed my elbow and pulled me out of bed. I clumsily followed her as there was nothing much I could do to stop myself from walking.
