5.

“ How could he? “ Damian muttered angrily. Rage was literally bouncing inside him, fighting to get out and vent himself. In his eyes foretold hell to pay for some poor fool. His face was smug. He was pushing the files on his desk to the floor. Poor desk! He was pouring his frustration on the desk. Banging and hitting it like a Maniac. “ How could those fools believe that Jenna is Selena? Are they blind? Why didn’t he step down from his position? Oh Darrell, you will regret this___ “

“ Regret what? “ an older lady of about forty years interrupted him, as she walked in. She was tall, curvy and had beautiful emerald eyes. She was dark-haired too.

“ Gwen, do me a favor and leave me alone, “ he sneered bitterly.

“ You can’t talk to me like that, I am your mother, “ she said firmly.

“ That is the least of my problem mother, “ he said and began to go.

“ What’s bothering you? “ Gwen cut in.

“ Your petty questions, that’s what bothers me. What do you think you can possibly do if I tell you what’s bothering me? You are just a weakling, an old weakling. If I have a problem, I will handle it, so do the both of us the favor and mind your business____ “

“ What’s going on here? “ Darrell asked, standing at the door and looking alarmed.

Damian scratched his hair and walked to his mom. “ I was just___ I was just telling Mom here not to worry about the incidents that have been going on in the packs. She worries a lot and why should she? We have you here. You can handle everything. . . “

Darrell shifted his glance from Damian to Gwen and arched an eyebrow. “ Damian, “ he called out huskily.

Damian felt nervous immediately, wondering if Darrell had heard their conversation.

“ Gwen has every right to worry, “ he said slowly. “ Only to worry___ but about herself. So I agree with you Damian. Gwen, everything will soon be in control. “ He turned to go but turned back immediately. “ Before I forget Damian, I want to see you right away, “ he hatched a grim smile and went away.

“ Do you know because of your busybody, you could have landed me into trouble? “ Damian said arrogantly.

“ I am so sorry son, I____ “

“ Save your useless explanation, “ he snarled and left the room.

She called his name but he ignored her.

In the conference room, there was the council of Alphas of the Moonlight pack. They were called to have an emergency meeting by Darrell and wanted to talk about the recent evasion of their omegas.

The room was well lit, with a long conference table at the center. A large screen was placed on the wall and there sat about eight Alphas. Only Darrell was left.

The atmosphere was a bit tense, as they knew how angry and frustrated Darrell was but he was the lead Alpha of the pack. Although his father had stepped down, Darrell’s father still held the most power, as the Ultima of the pack.

After a few minutes, Darrell walked into the room. The rest of the Alphas rose up to greet him and he nodded. Behind him was Damian, his cousin. He also held a position among the council.

“So what have we got?” Darrell questioned as took his seat at the far end of the table. The other Alphas got to work and one of them stood up. A female Alpha named Jane.

“So as you already know, Alpha Darrell, our pack is being evaded by a rival pack, The Crescent pack. We’ve lost a lot of manpower and our Omegas are being killed constantly or taken as slaves…”

“Spare me the info Jane. I already know all that…” he said with a carefree tone before turning serious, “What I want to know is why this is happening. Why are they going for our Omegas? For them to be able to do this, it must mean that our wolves are not strong enough.” he continued. It was at this point that another Alpha on the table interrupted him.

“That is something I must object to. I oversee the training of the Omegas personally and there are many potential wolves that are liable to become Betas.” The Alpha was a bit upset but his colleague calmed him down.

“Calm down Harry. This is a meeting. No need to get upset. Perhaps the problem is somewhere else.” A calm and composed Alpha spoke with a smooth and soothing voice.

Upon hearing the voice, Harry reclaimed his cool. Darrell was annoyed by his attitude but he decided to not bother about it. Instead, he faced the person who calmed Harry down.

“What’s your take on this?” Darrell questioned with a grim expression as he folded his arms and listened.

“Considering the accuracy of the evasion this week, it only shows that there are moles in our pack.” He claimed. Many people gasped.

“That’s impossible.” Damian refuted. “There shouldn’t be any moles as all the wolves have sworn a blood oath. There’s no way that our movements can be exposed, as whoever does it shall be killed.”

“Then can anyone please explain the cause of this. I don’t understand what is going on.” Darrell yelled.

“Then perhaps it would be nice for you to step down as the Leader of the pack then, to spare yourself of all this trouble.” A husky but terrifying voice spoke. Everyone had their hearts in their throats, even Darrell himself. They all recognized the voice to be the Supreme leader of the pack, the Ultima, Darrell’s father.

The man looked a bit old and seemed to be in his fifties, but he was older than his looks. His short and curly gray hair and slightly wrinkled skin exposed his age, but his muscles never left him, as he looked strong and capable. Tall, blue eyes which gave him a strong devilish aura that sent chills down the spine of his enemies.

Darrell and the others bowed with respect and fear when they saw him enter the conference room.

“Forgive me father for my disrespect.” Darrell said as he stood up. The old man didn’t even spare him a glance and instead, went straight to where Darrell sat. Darrell gave up his seat for him and stood by his side.

The old man sat down and put his legs on the table before signaling for the rest of the Alphas to sit.

Darrell’s seat was being occupied so he could only stand and not complain. Even if there was an extra seat, he would still stand. After all, that was his father right in front of him.

“I heard that this pack is constantly being attacked by the Crescent pack. Can I please understand the responsibility of you Alphas? ” Darrell’s father scolded. Everyone still had their heads bowed. Darrell decided to muster some courage to speak.

“Umm… we’re working on it father. We will think of a viable solution soon…” Darrell assured, but his steel hearted father wasn’t having any of that.

“But it didn’t look like you guys were going to find a solution to this. It was more like you were fighting amongst yourselves like little children.”  He revealed. Darrell kept his mouth shut while his father looked at him with disdain.

Darrell’s father was extremely annoyed about his son’s mode of leadership.

“You guys had better find a solution before the next new moon.” He threatened before standing up and adjusting his suit, “This meeting is dismissed until further notice.” He ordered and then faced his son.

“You, come with me. I believe that you and I need to have a talk.” He said. Darrell nodded and followed his father sheepishly.

The rest of the Alphas waited for the two leaders to step out before finally breathing. They were extremely relieved as they felt like a large pressure was taken off them. Their supreme leader was like a wolf god, one that appears once in a lifetime.

To become one, an Alpha had to train extremely hard in order to get to the position of an Ultima.

Damian kept his stern face on as he contemplated his next move. Now that Darrell’s father had arrived, if Darrell isn’t careful enough, he would definitely strip him off his leading title. Damian was a bit happy but he wasn’t sure if Darrell’s father would do that.

He was deep in thought that he didn’t notice Avery teasing him.

“Hey, Damian. You seem to be deep in thought.” She said before smiling and leaning closer to him.

“Don’t you think you need a Luna? You could use one right now. Don’t let that handsomeness of yours go to waste.” She suggested as she flirtatiously ran her hands through Damian’s body. The latter was deep in thought and seeing Avery disturbing him, he slapped her hand off, stood up, and walked out of the room.

Avery sighed and shook her head, “Tsk… such a hopeless wolf, " she snarled annoyed.
