Chapter 2: The Assassination of the Blind Man

What's this? Isn't it the library?

I looked all over the place. Yes, it was the library! But why am I here?

I slowly stepped my right foot forward. With my left foot positioned in a heeled manner, I checked the surroundings.

"Is anybody here?" I asked.

There's something wrong. I felt that. There's something in my brain that I couldn't express. My.. my brain was processing without my consciousness.

I tried processing what's inside my brain. I approached the chair that was a meter away from me and sat on it. I held my head with my right hand's fingers and closed my eyes.

"The staff..." I unconsciously uttered. "The staff will come... They will... kill me?!"

I rapidly stood and checked if anyone's approaching. There were footsteps! There were a lot of feet that sounded loudly.

I ran and hid between the shelves. I halfway looked at the door, where the people that will try to kill me will enter.

What?!

My mother entered the room! Her co-staffs also entered. My mom worked for the school for consecutive 7 years. But.. she was now retired for over a decade. She raised me for 17 years, and she stopped once she got pregnant.

But that wasn't the matter. Why they came here?

"Where's that blind man?!" one of them shouted. "There's no way he can escape!"

I hid more. I removed the books from a portion, to make a spot for me to look at.

"He shouldn't reveal our secret!"

That was my mom's voice. Her voice was a bit younger. It was unusual and it wasn't the way I remembered.

What secret?

They scattered and commenced their plan. Pointing their guns ahead, they hobbled to search for their target.

BANG! I was being stricken by the bullet. It was from my mother's gun, as she pull the trigger, suddenly appearing in front of me.

"Uck!"

It was a sinister voice that was like trying to cling on for life. My mom, still pointing her gun, looked at her co-staffs.

"I killed him."

But.. why am I still alive? I looked at my mom's eyes. She wasn't staring at me. I looked back, to witness the blind man lying down in the same position as I saw before! The gunshot wound was also the same!

What's really happening?

"He wouldn't have the strength the reveal our buried secret. Our secret will be kept hidden, forever!"

Lots of them already left the room. My mom strangely stood in her position. She kneeled and touched the blind man's head.

"Priam.." she whispered. "My son will be freed from this chain mission that was passed on for years: to execute this move —kill you!"

What was my mom saying? She even told "my son." But he can't see that I was here. That I was watching them.

"Harp will be glad to be freed from this responsibility." my mom continued, saying my name. "My son... Harp. Harp!"

"Harp!! Harp!! Harp!!"

I was awakened by the simultaneous calling! I got up from my bed— Am I only dreaming?!

"HARP!! GET OUT OF YOUR BED!! IT'S ALREADY 9:00 AM!!"

"I'm up, Mom.." I just replied in a low voice.

My room was normal-sized. My bed was in peach color, and the walls were painted with a pale beige. The opened iron windows painted in white let the light strike inside the room, lighting it up.

"That dream.." I just heave a sigh and walked outside the room.

I pushed the white curtains that separated my opened room with the way to our living room. My mom's angry face greeted my unusual morning. No, late morning.

"Hey, Aze Harp Montgomery... if you want to graduate next school year, you better throw away that tardiness in you!" she shouted unidirectionally.

I just walked out and went to the living room for some relaxation. My mom was still sermonizing me, but I wasn't listening anymore. After we have escaped the library yesterday, we eventually went home and acted as if nothing happened.

My mom also said that there weren't any solar eclipses happened. I just opened the TV and watched anything that will release what was being stocked in my mind.

"Welcome to News Flash!" The reporter on the television said while staring at me. It's as if he was directly staring at me, not in the camera that was capturing him. "According to NASA, some galactic occurrences will take place this month."

I was focused on hearing what the reporter was saying. The animation on the TV started. It was outer space.

The Earth was then revealed, followed by the Sun, whom the Earth revolved. By the sudden change in angle, the Earth became the foreground and the Sun as the far background. Then, the Moon suddenly passed, covering where the Sun's light was. It created a wash of darkness, a Ring Of Fire in proportion.

"There will be a Total Solar Eclipse this week. December 15, to be exact."

I was frozen. Solar Eclipse... Blind Man... Files... Just you all wait. I will come to destroy you, all of you!

"Another strange occurrence will take place. The Red Moon!"

That sentence awakened my senses. Red Moon? So, it wasn't only a solar eclipse?!

"As the Total Solar Eclipse and the Red Moon occurred at the same time, the whole place will not darken but will reddish. We will experience a legitimate red day."

I was only left dumbstruck. I don't know how to react to it properly. My heart has beaten faster. "I will execute my plan.." I unwillingly uttered.

I don't know, but my body was moving on its own. I unconsciously got my phone and dialed my friend's numbers without my consent.

I tried returning the phone, but I can't! I can't move my body. I can't even shout.

"I will save Priam!!"

I've managed to utter a sentence. But.. who is Priam? I think I've heard that name before...

My head spun. I can only see a thing in a dark and empty vision of mine —my mom. She strangely stood in her position. She kneeled and touched a man's head. No, the blind man's head!

"Priam.." she whispered. "My son will be freed from this chain mission that was passed on for years: to execute this move —kill you!"

I can't process what's happening, but one thing is for sure; I came back on my senses as my friend answered my call.

"Hey, Harp! Answer this!"

I was unconscious as I answered, "Let's go back to the library!"

Chapter 33: IMBALANCELou heard his wife come in the front door and glanced at the bedside clock. It was almost half-past-two in the morning. Could have been worse, he supposed. She’d warned him it would be a long session. He couldn’t be the one to talk, he’d only just got over the headache from old Barrington’s retirement party. He waited in a pleasant state of semi-consciousness for the sound of her feet on the stairs, water running in the bathroom, the rustle of undressing, the shock of cold air as she pulled back the duvet to climb in beside him.But as the drowsy minutes slipped by there was no further sound from downstairs. Maybe she was making herself a cup of coffee to clear her head. Those hen parties could be pretty wild affairs, he had been told. He opened his eyes and glanced at the clock again. Forty minutes had passed. He became fully awake. Forty minutes? It doesn’t take forty minutes to make a cup of coffee. He sat up and listened hard, but all he could hear was the br

Chapter 31: BREAKING NEWSAbsolutely genuine, unedited news items...Firework Prank Back-fires" I wanted to play a prank on her, but I can see I hadn't really thought it out," 35 year old Shannon Kramer admitted to police officers from his hospital bed in Jacksonville, Florida. "I'd driven my girlfriend out to the beach in my old Mustang, and she got out and was walking around. I was sitting in the drivers seat and I thought it would be kinda funny to shoot a firework at her out of the window.I had a box of 6 inch rockets with me so I aimed one at her and lit it. Only then did I realise that the electric window was wound up. I couldn't wind it down because the key wasn't in the ignition. I suppose I should have opened the door and got out, but by the time I'd thought of that, the rocket had gone off and was whooshing round and round inside the car. It was awful. So bright and loud and hot and fast. I thought I was dead. I couldn't see, couldn't hear, it set fire to my hair and cloth

Chapter 30: PIGEONS AND PATRIOTSMrs. Rogers said that somebody came to the door yesterday asking about me. A man in his forties with an Irish accent. She couldn't tell what he looked like because it was dark. She was surprised when I told her I was leaving. She said: "Leaving? Already? You've only been here three months." Actually she was wrong, it's less than that. Three months would be close to my record. She asked me if there was something wrong, some reason why I wasn't happy here. I gave her the usual story. "Got to go where the job sends me," I said. If only there was a job. That little bit of money I invested all those years ago is nearly gone now.Considering present circumstances though, it looks like it's been enough to see me out. Who would have thought it? There wasn't much lying ahead for me. When all the money was gone I would have gone into some kind of hostel for down-and-outs, I suppose. Pretended to be mad so that I wouldn't have to provide a past. I would have surv
