Chapter 6

"Commissioner Sir, why are you here?" Radhika asked Mohan when she saw them coming inside.

"They are here to talk to Amar Sir, Madam" Mohan informed. 

Radhika gestures to Anita to bring Amar downstairs.

"Commissioner, please sit while you wait for your friend and Mohan, go bring tea for the commissioner.”

"There's no need for it, Aunty and please call me Devesh. I just came here to talk something with Amar, I need to go back soon as I'm on duty" the Commissioner explained.

"You have to drink tea before going. I'm not taking no as an answer, Devesh" Radhika said smiling.

Devesh nodded. Just then Amar came downstairs with knitted brows.

"We should talk in my study. Devesh, come with me and Mom tell Mohan to bring tea in the study." 

Amar gestured to Devesh to follow him. Closing the door behind himself, Amar looked at Devesh with knitted brows.

"So tell me Devesh what is that you can't tell me on the phone? Is that about Sameer and Shalini's case? You got any lead?" 

Devesh nodded and Amar gestured to him to continue.

"As I told you before that we didn't get any fingerprints from the site and attackers didn’t leave any clue behind, on top of that they also burned the whole place. We only had Mohan as a witness and he only saw one of them therefore the investigation's speed was slow….”

"I already know that Devesh. Tell me about what you found out now after 6 months of investigation" Amar interrupted.

"I'm coming to that point, Amar."

"Last month we arrested some goons in a case of arson and after observing the pattern of crime we found out it was the same as Sameer and Shalini's case. We called Mohan and he recognised one of them…”

He motioned with his palm to stop Amar from interrupting him again. 

“I know you are thinking why I didn't tell you before? I wanted to find the real culprit and his motive before telling you everything that’s why I waited for the investigation to get complete. After giving some special treatment to those goons they opened their mouths. They told me that they were hired by a man who told them to kill Sameer and Meera….”

“Then Shalini..”

“Yeah. Her death was not planned. To give some time to Mohan so he can run from there with Meera, Shalini fought with them, in the end one of the goons pulled the trigger.”

“When they didn’t find Meera there, they burned the whole house. After probing more we found out they didn’t stop their search for Meera. Apparently their boss is hell bent on wiping out their last successor. You did great by keeping Meera’s whereabouts secret.”

“They will never be able to put their filthy hands on my daughter” Amar said furiously.

"Who was the man that hired them? Who is their boss?" Amar asked.

"Samrat Kapoor."

"You don't know him because he came in Sameer's and Shalini's life after you left Kanpur. He met Sameer at the same ceremony in which Sameer met Shalini for the first time. That day not only Sameer but Samrat also got mesmerised by Shalini and wanted to approach her but as you know Shalini got married to Sameer. But this didn't stop Samrat from following Shalini. He started stalking her but when he saw her happy with another man he got furious. According to him only he can keep Shalini happy and only he deserved her, not Sameer.”

“Is that man crazy? That bastard killed my…” Amar muttered enraged.

“You need to calm down to hear the full thing, Amar,” Devesh said.

“He wanted Sameer out of her life and when he got news about Meera his hatred became double for Sameer and when Sameer decided to leave Kanpur to settle in Mumbai he got mad. According to him Sameer was trying to take Shalini away from him. So he planned everything to kill Sameer along with his daughter and take Shalini with him but not everything went according to plan. He became crazy after Shalini’s death, he killed the man brutally who shot Shalini." 

Devesh stopped to give some time to Amar to absorb everything. When after a few minutes he got no response he looked towards Amar and shaked him to say something. Amar just stared blankly towards the wall behind Devesh, he didn't know how to react. He dropped on the couch behind him and tears started spilling from his eyes. 

Devesh rubbed his back to calm him down.

"You can't be like this, Amar. It’s not a time to spill tears over what happened, it’s time to make him pay for his sins. You need to be strong to face him and put him behind bars permanently."

Amar looked towards Devesh with fire in his eyes. With new determination he stood up wiping his tears with the back of his hand.

"Where is that bastard? I will not leave him. I will make him regret having his disgusting eyes on Shalini and..and..kill..killing them. He was searching for my daughter to kill her, I’ll show him what happens to the people who dare to even think about harming my family."

Hearing the anger in his voice Devesh put his hands on his shoulders and nodded with a smirk.

"We arrested him from his farm house last week. We found him unconscious there due to a drug overdose. Now he is in jail. I will take you to him but don’t do anything rashly there."

Amar nodded. Devesh drove him to the police station.

Evening,

Radhika and Anita were talking in the living room when Amar came back from the police station. Amar sat down on the couch pinching his head due to a headache. Anita stood up to make coffee for him.

"What happened, Amar?" Radhika asked, concerned.

“Mom let Anita come also, I’ll tell you both together” Amar said.

Anita came back with his coffee and Amar told them everything except him beating shit out of Samrat in the Police station. He promised Devesh to not do anything rash but he couldn’t control after seeing his face.

"How could someone be this cruel? Sameer was such a good man and that man said he loved Shalini still he cruelly destroyed her happiness" Anita said in disbelief.

"Sameer and Shalini lost their lives due to that man's obsession. His twisted love took their life. He should be hanged to death. People like him don’t deserve to live" Radhika said, fuming.

"Don’t worry, Mom I’ll make sure he and all his minions get stern punishment for their sins” Amar said firmly.

"I want you all to remember one thing that everything that happens to Sameer and Shalini will remain between us. Not a single thing will get to our innocent kids especially our doll Meera. She deserves all the happiness in the world, no bad thing will get to her" Radhika said sternly.

"You are right Mom. We will make sure that the past will never affect our doll's present and future. She is our daughter and always will be" Anita said.
