Chapter 4 - The revelation

29 days to her birthday

Sunday

I wasn't really a big fan of going to church but I had to go since my parents wouldn't be taking no for an answer. And that was the reason why I was sitting inside dad's slow, annoying truck right now

"We better change this shit" I murmured

"Will young lady watch her language?' dad warned

We went passed auntie Catherine's house and I saw dad staring at the car

I rebuke you, I thought and eyed the condemned car. You will never be mine

There were only two churches in our community: the north church and the south church and as a member of the community, you must attend one of the churches.

Finally, we were back home and was in front of the television to watch mom's favorite program "The mystery"

The presenter, Mrs Williams started the program by saying that the story was going to be different from her other stories with a very serious tone that got everyone's attention including me even though I wasn't really a fan of her program.

"Today's program is going to be about Melinda Lamb" Mrs Williams said while backing one of the woods in our community

"Melinda Lamb" mom repeated "Wait, isn't that Mrs Lamb daughter that left their house some weeks ago"

"Mom, it's not even up to two weeks" Jack corrected and rolled his eyes

"Stop talking both of you" dad warned

"I'm sorry" mom said

Melinda Lamb, according to what we heard some days ago was that she had left the community with her new boyfriend

"Melinda Lamb" Mrs Williams called "Who is Melinda lamb? She's Mr George and Mrs Evelyn Lamb only child. She is twenty years old. She graduated from St Louis high school-the only school in our community- two years ago with one of the best grades in our history.

She was working as an accountant at the Clay's restaurant before she left the community..."

"About last night" I whispered to Jack who was sitting by my side

I was already asleep before Jack's arrival last night

"Later" he whispered back

"Did you guys kissed?"

He rolled his eyes but didn't reply

"You guys should shut up" dad warned

"We aren't even saying anything" I said angrily

"Irene" mom warned

We all went back to listening to Mrs Williams stories

"Exactly twelve days ago, Melinda left home without leaving any letter behind. And since her new boyfriend, Jeremy Kelvin who came from the city was also not found, everyone beliefs he was the one who took her away because her parents weren't in support of their relationship"

"Jeremy Kelvin, a twenty one years old boy was accused of taking Melinda away and the fact that their phones became unreachable made the matter worse." She continued

"Mr Dan, one of the hunters in our community" Mr Dan's face showed on our television "And his dog named Cherry" the camera was moved to the dog's face "was walking in the woods few hours ago and..." She trailed off "Mr Dan" Mrs Williams called

"Yes" he replied

"I think I'm going to hand it over to you now"

"Okay" Mr Dan replied and my phone rang out

"Turn that thing off" dad warned

I took out my phone, it was a text from Liam, Liam Brown, my best friend and the guy I've been in love with since we were kids

"Hope you are watching the mystery" he texted

I put my phone in vibration before texting him back

"Yeah, I wonder what is going on" I texted Liam

"...in the woods for hours" Mr Dan said

I missed his first words because I was texting Liam

"And then Cherry caught a smell and he started moving to our opposite direction while barking really hard. So, I followed him and after following him for about fifteen minutes in the woods, he stopped and started digging out the ground. Me seeing this, I joined him and we both continued digging until we came across what we saw inside the ground"

"Can you tell them what you saw?" Mrs Williams asked

"Yes" the man answered sadly

"What did you see Mr Dan?" 

"I saw dead decaying bodies of a man and a woman"

"Oh my God!" mom said horrifically

"Where?" Mrs Williams asked

"Buried inside the ground and for the first three to five minutes, I was shocked and I didn't know what to do. But I later calmed myself down and called the police"

The camera was turned to an empty grave.

"This was where the two dead bodies were found few hours ago" Mrs Williams said in the background. The camera was turned back to her "And the dead bodies were confirmed to be Melinda and her boyfriend Jeremy Kelvin"

"Aah!" Mom shouted and started crying while I texted Liam

"Oh my God!" I texted Liam

"Can't believe it myself" he texted back

"But the story doesn't end there" Mrs Williams continued "According to the doctors, there wasn't a bullet wound on their body and neither was their a stab wound on them"

"Then how did they die?" Mom asked nobody in particular

"Maybe they were choked" dad replied

"But the doctors noticed that it seems like their skin were torn apart by a wild animal. Which brought up some other questions like, who buried them? The owner of the wild animal or someone just passing by. And if the answer is someone just passing by, why would he do that? Why couldn't he just call the police. And the last question is why is Jeremy's car missing?

I know all of you are trying to find answers to this questions...." Mrs Williams continued

Jack shouldered me and I looked at him

"What if the wolf you saw is the one she is talking about?" He whispered

"What did she see?" Mom asked

"Nothing" I replied and eyed Jack

"What are you guys hiding from me?" Mom asked while dad grunted out his displeasure at mom 

"I'm sorry" mom murmured and faced the television
