Mom was preparing lunch when I entered the kitchen
"Hey Mom" I said as I headed to the freezer to get a drink
"You're finally awake. What about Jack?"
"In his room" I answered and opened my drink "playing video games" I added
"Okay"
"Where is dad?" I asked
"He is in the garage with his truck"
What mom was trying to say was that dad was repairing his truck
"I told him to throw that piece of trash away but he wouldn't listen"
I wondered what type of car he would be getting me for my sixteenth birthday, so, I asked mom
"Mom" I called
"Uh"
"Do you have any idea of the type of car dad will be getting me for my birthday?"
"Maybe the one sister Catherine want to sell"
"What!?" I said shockingly and mistakenly dropped my drink
"Make sure to clean that"
I ignored her
"Auntie Catherine's car?" I asked with horror fully written on my face
"Yeah, what is wrong with it?"
"Auntie Catherine's condemned car? Everything mom, everything is wrong with it" I replied and sat on the floor "How do you expect me to take that car to school? That car is old and unfit for a young girl like me"
"Your dad is going to repair it "
"Goddamn. I'm sure she have been using that car twenty years before I was born"
"That doesn't really matter. The engine of a car is the main thing. Your dad went to check out the engine some days ago and he told me it is still strong"
"Mom" I cried and kicked my legs. I knew I sitting on the floor and kicking my legs was too childish for a sixteen years old girl, but at this particular moment I couldn't help it "please mom, I don't want that car and tell dad that I don't want that car" I got up from the floor and started heading back to my room "I will rather start trekking to school than to take that car"
"Come and clean this up" mom shouted but I ignored her and headed upstairs
"What is wrong?" Jack asked me as I was about to enter my room
"Go ask mom" I said annoyingly and banged the door on his face
"Irene" he called as he knocked gently "Open up"
"I don't want to talk to any one of you" he left not long after
Five minutes later, Jack was back
"Irene, open the door. Open the door"
I opened the door and asked "What do you want?"
"Can I come in?"
I shifted to one side in order to allow him to enter
He sat on my chair and I closed the door
"I just finished talking to Mom. They wouldn't be getting you that car"
"Okay but how are they going to get the money for a new car"
"I still have some money with me, but we will talk later"
"Oh, thank you"
"It's nothing baby"
"I'm not a baby" I said and hit him slightly on his shoulder
"Ouch, that hurts" he said
"That is definitely a lie"
"Should I also hit you on your shoulder" he said as he got out of his chair while I ran out of the room giggling
"Food is ready" mom said from downstairs

"How are you feeling?" I asked an happy Jack
"Excited. This is like a dream come through"
"Oh" I pouted " My Jack is finally a big boy"
He hit me softly on my forehead and started running after me. I ran to where mom was and hid behind her back
"Jack, leave my baby alone" mom warned while I mouthed to him behinds mom back "Our Jack is now a big boy"
"Mom, look at what she is doing" Jack said and pointed at my direction
"She's doing nothing wrong" mom replied
"I knew you aren't going to believe me" he said and went back to his room
"He is so cute" mom whispered and went back to what she was doing

"Are you sure this outfit is okay?" He asked for the hundredth time before stepping out of the house
"Absolutely yes" I replied "And I can't wait to hear everything"
"As if I'm going to tell you"
"Of course, you will tell me. I know you will tell me. You always tells me everything"
"Not like this one"
"Don't do me like that bro. I'm gonna miss you"
"It's not as if I wouldn't be coming home tonight" he said and stepped out of the house
"Bye" I waved
"Bye. Make sure you lock the door"
"Okay"
"So that the wolf wouldn't come and get you" he laughed
"Jack" I called annoyingly "That isn't funny at all. And I won't be telling you things next time"
"I know you will. Bye Irene"
I ignored him and went back inside
