CHAPTER 4

Cathy blocked the opponent's kick with her outstretched hand. Her brows were furrowed, and beads of sweat were dripping from his forehead. He was drenched in sweat from sparring with his new opponent.

Sian introduced her to this sparring partner and realized it was from another pack. This is Sian's friend, that's why Cathy is being polite to him as much as possible. Even so, Cathy can't help but be rude every time he kicks and punches her.

"Ah, fuck!"

The excitement and joy on Cathy's face cannot be removed as she exchanges kicks and punches with her opponent.

This is the second day of their sparring, and due to Cathy's desire to get even stronger, she looks for another pack. Her brothers didn't agree because it was even more dangerous and they didn't know who Sian would get, but Sian immediately made sure that he knew who Cathy would fight against. When they met Cathy's opponent, they were satisfied.

Cathy's brothers don't think Sian even knows someone who is strong and a beta. Because Shou, Ralf, and Jude didn't agree to have Cathy fight with the alpha, especially since she was an omega. Also, they didn't let Sian's friend Josh know that she was an omega.

Since a beta couldn't differentiate between an omega and beta, it was fine not to tell Josh about it.

When Cathy caught Josh's kick, she immediately gave him a roundhouse kick, but Josh blocked it as well. Their exchange continued until they were both gasping for breath.

"I think it's okay now," Cathy said, taking her towel and wiping the sweat from her face.

Josh is one of the strongest beta warriors in the Rhombus Pack, which is a few miles away to the north. It is still part of the north, but they are no longer under the power of Cathy's father, Dominic.

"Miss Cathy, you've improved so much," Josh said happily. "I didn't think this would happen in just two days of our sparring."

Cathy smiled at what Josh said. "In order for me to take the path I want to take, I need to show people that I can do it," she said softly, then drank some water.

"You don't need to prove anything because you're really strong," Josh said.

Josh is a beta, which is why he doesn't have the ability to smell a scent. He didn't know that Cathy was an omega, even if he thought she was a beta. However, Josh's inner wolf kept telling her that she wasn't a beta at all. That Cathy is an omega. But it was difficult for Josh to believe since she was strong enough and not as delicate as the omega.

Cathy tilted her head. "Is there something wrong?" she asked.

She saw how Josh hesitated for a moment. Cathy also caught Josh opening her mouth and was about to speak or ask, but closed it again. This time, she had a feeling that Josh wanted to ask for something or confirm something.

"Miss Cathy, I hope you won't find me absurd by asking this," Josh started, looking at Cathy seriously.

"Hmm? And what is it?" she asked, raising a brow.

It took Josh a minute or two before he started to ask. "I wanted to know if you're a beta or an omega. I don't mean any harm by asking this. I was just confused. You're strong enough not to be considered an omega, and I think that you're a beta. However, my inner wolf is telling me that I am wrong. I just want to know if I am right or if my inner wolf is right."

Cathy was not able to speak immediately. Because she was always with her brothers and also because she got the skills from her father, Dominic, even if Cathy was just watching silently, the person in front of her could feel her pressure.

"It's for you to find out. Although I know you have no bad intentions, I still can't tell you. The only thing you can do is observe and make a conclusion yourself. That's also our policy here in the north."

Josh sighed. He knew that Cathy wouldn't tell his second gender, so he wasn't too disappointed. Even so, it caused him to feel a strange excitement. What Josh wants most of all is to know the truth. That is also the reason why he was placed in one of the most important squads in their pack.

Josh stood up straight and then extended his hand. "Thank you for the opportunity to spar," he said.

Cathy stopped for a moment but shook Josh's hand. "Thank you also."

The two looked at each other and then laughed.

"It's like this is our last sparring session," Josh said with a laugh.

Cathy shrugged. "Well, we're not sure. You probably know that the beta warrior selection is coming up here in the north, that's why I'll be busy. Also, I'm also entering the W Academy, so I don't know when we'll spar again."

Josh's jaw literally dropped when he heard it. "You're going to W Academy?" This is an unbelievable question.

Cathy frowned, nodding. "Yes why?"

"Miss Cathy, you can still think about that." Josh looked worried, and this made Cathy flinch. "I know that you already know what there is at W Academy," he added.

Cathy sighed. "You know, you're weird. It's not just you who's weird, but also my brothers, my mother, and my father. You all seem to not want me to enter W Academy." Josh didn't speak, but Cathy noticed his clenched fist. "Is it that dangerous?" it asked.

Next, Josh nodded. "It's very dangerous there. Not only the exams but also the students who are there. The professors don't care what happens to the students when one challenges the other to a duel; that's why many people lose their lives there, especially the weak ones If you're a beta, you're in a better situation. If you're an alpha, you'll definitely have a lot to fight against. If you're an omega, even if they don't fight you, you'll still be the subject of the alphas' gaze, and you can't avoid that. You know how strong alphas are, especially when they meet their mate, don't you?"

Cathy thought for a moment. Even so, she just smiled at Josh and thanked him.

The two left the training hall and walked in opposite directions.

Cathy finds it weird when everyone makes her feel discouraged. She knows that there's a lot of danger lurking in the dark, especially in the academy. However, she couldn't think of anything to explain why they were so eager for her to drop the subject of going to W Academy.

Either way, Cathy's decision is already made. She wasn't the type of person to break what she spoke for. Also, for some reason, she felt a little nervous and excited.

'I will definitely see for myself why they don't want to send me to the W Academy. I'll see if the danger itself is enough for me not to attend.'

Cathy knocked, "Father? Are you there?" she asked.

"Come in," answered Dominic from inside his office.

She saw so many documents around, and she immediately gasped. Every time the selection actually comes, Cathy sees how busy her parents are. Now, his father was relentless in reading any documents, and when she also looked on the other side, where his mother's table was placed, she also saw that her head was not lifting either.

Cathy sighed. "Should I come here the next day?" she said, and obviously she let it be heard by her parents.

Dominic raised his head, and when Cathy saw the look on her father's face, she felt pity. It's obvious that he hasn't slept yet.

"Oh, Cathy. Sorry, I'm just a bit busy."

Cathy raised her eyebrows. "Mother, Father, don't you intend to rest? Look at your faces."

"It's just for now, Cathy." Cathy turned to the place where her mother was sitting. "It's just for now. Tomorrow, we won't have to work."

Cathy sighed because she knew there was nothing she could do there. "Fine. But why did you call me?" Cathy smelled herself. "You made me come here without a bath, I just got back from sparring."

"Oh, sparring. Right, that's why we called you here to ask you about that," Dominic said, but he still didn't raise his head.

"And? Is there a problem with Josh?"

"There is no problem with him. Sian asked me if Josh could watch the Beta Warriors Selection tomorrow. We don't know him very well, and even though he is Sian's friend, you probably know why no one can watch warrior beta selection from the outside, right?"

Cathy nodded and sat down. "Do you want to confirm from me if he is a good person or not?"

"Um, and whether or not he can be trusted."

Cathy didn't speak immediately. Instead, she leaned forward and closed its eyes. She thought about her interactions with Josh and checked to see if she read his every move correctly.

"I don't know Josh very well yet, but whether he can be trusted or not, sure, he is. Also, he's from the north, far away. And whether he can watch or not, the decision is up to you."

Cathy's father laughed awkwardly. "Right, it is me who still has to decide." Dominic adjusted his seat, and then he looked at his wife, Alice. "Honey, what do you think?"

Alice slowly raised her head and said, "If you base it on what Cathy said and that boy can really be trusted, he can watch."

"All right, he can watch." Dominic looked back at his daughter. "Just tell Sian about this. Tell me that Alice and I agree to let Josh watch the beta warrior selection under one condition: that the strengths and weaknesses of those who will fight against the selection should not be revealed to other people."

Cathy nodded. "Okay, Father. Is there anything else?"

It shook its head. "No more, you can rest."

Cathy couldn't believe it as she walked down the hall to her room. She had a hard time getting her family to allow him to study at W Academy, but they allowed Josh, an outsider, to watch the selection. At this time, Cathy wondered why that was.

Was it difficult to allow him to enter the W Academy, and was it easier for them to give their permission to an outsider who wanted to watch the selection?

Cathy doesn't hate Josh, but she feels a little jealous. Even so, for Cathy, it was not good to have this kind of emotion, so she put it aside. At least if Josh has enlightenment, she will have a chance to fight it.

'All right, I should go to the town first. I wanted to unwind,' she said in her mind.

Cathy came out of their home smiling. When she reached the town, the people immediately greeted her, and she greeted them as well.

"Cathy, it's good that you're here. Here, take these vegetables. I took care of them and grew them myself, so don't refuse. I was waiting for you the other day."

"Thank you, Aunt Jiesi!"

"Cathy! Here take these fruits too."

Cathy winced. "Um, don't give it to me. I look like I'm collecting taxes from you," Cathy joked to them.

Instead of doing what Cathy wanted, people scolded her. The things they give are for Cathy, and if someone else says something bad about her, they will take care of it and will defend Cathy no matter what happens. That is how they cherish Cathy. They will definitely do something more than a normal person could imagine.

Cathy felt warm in her heart. No matter what he does, she knows that he will not be able to change the minds of the people who give to her, so she just lets it go.

Many more were given to him, that's why she didn't do anything else but call some of those who followed him to send the things that were given to him to her home.

"Wow, you've reaped so much."

Cathy turned behind her and saw Sian with Josh. They smile the same, but their smiles mean different things.

Cathy crossed her arms. "Wow, Sian, you still feel like going out today. Isn't the selection tomorrow? Why are you here and not practising?"

Sian coughed and then looked at Josh next to her. "We also just finished training."

Cathy frowned. "Huh? It hasn't been that long since we finished sparring ah. Why did you guys finish sparring so soon?"

Josh coughed at Cathy's words, which made Sian laugh.

"Don't worry about Josh and my training. Don't worry either; I'll win tomorrow and get into the selection."

Cathy sneered. "Do I look worried? I'm more worried about your laundry." She rolled her eyes. "Oh, yes, by the way, Father said that it is possible under one condition: no one can get out of anything he watches in the selection." Cathy looked at Josh next to Sian.

Sian's eyes immediately lit up. "Really? Duke agrees?"

Cathy backed away. "You're not obviously excited, are you?" she said with raised eyebrows.

Sian just laughed foolishly and then patted Cathy's shoulder.

"By the way, I also heard that there are different alphas who are going."

Cathy frowned at what Sian said. "Huh? There's another Alpha coming? I thought the selection was secret; why would there be another alpha?"

Sian shrugged. "I don't know either. Shou just told me the same thing. You know your brother's mouth, don't you?"

Cathy winced. "Wow, he can't really close his mouth," Cathy said in disbelief.

Sian laughed. "You'll be surprised if Shou is quiet. Oh, hey, we're leaving. We'll go first."

Cathy just nodded and then left without seeing Sian or Josh anymore. For the first time, Cathy felt that there was something different between the two. They are very close for two beta males.

Cathy just ignored it because it's none of her business. Cathy is not in the habit of meddling in other people's business, so she just let it go.

When he got back to the villa, he immediately saw his three older brothers.

"Brothers, tell me, are there any alphas who will attend the selection?" I will ask.

The three of them stopped for a moment and looked at each other.

"Who did you know that from?" asked his first brother, Jude.

Cathy tilted her head. "Sian mentioned it to me. I also asked who it was from, and he said that Third Brother Shou slipped his tongue, so he found out about it."

Shou immediately received glares from his two older brothers, Jude and Ralf. It wasn't long before the two of them attacked Shou.

"It's a good thing you said that to Sian and not to anyone else, because otherwise, it might have been a mess right now." Jude stood up properly. "I'll leave first to talk to Father about it."

"You're dead. When Father finds out," Ralf threatened.

Shou's face immediately lost blood. His face turned pale, and he could feel the coldness of his palms.

"Brothers, sister, help me..."

Cathy immediately looked away, and so did Ralf.

"Are you really my brother? Why won't you protect me?!"

Cathy coughed. "If you hadn't opened your mouth, this wouldn't have happened. Next time, maybe Father won't include you in the meetings."

Shou's eyes widened because of what his only sister said.

'No, it's not possible. It can't be that I'm not bad because I'll be the next to handle the beta warriors. I can't be lost in the conversation.'

Shou said that over and over again in his mind as he adjusted himself and thought about how he could solve it.
