Jade jerked out of her sleep as she felt the cold water hit her skin. She opened her eyes but all she saw was darkness. The air smelt of tobacco and the place was as silent as a graveyard. She tried to stand up but she couldn't move her body. She wriggled and she noticed that she was tied to something - a chair. Fear gripped her as she began to remember what had happened some minutes - or hours ago. She had been kidnapped.
The first thing that came to her mind was to scream. She tried to scream but it was impossible. She had been gagged. Wiggling and shaking the chair violently, she tried to untie her hands and free herself.
“Loosen her up.” She heard a cold voice from behind her and almost immediately, she felt someone untie her. The person removed her blindfold and the first thing she saw was her mother lying on the floor in her pool of blood. She sprang up from the seat but fell to the floor with the chair on top of her as her legs were still tied to it.
Tears streaming down her bright blue eyes, she dragged herself across the broken stone floor, bruising her knees along the way. She reached where Marie lay writhing and knelt beside her, watching as blood streamed out of all the deep cuts at different parts of her body.
Jade felt her world spinning as she tried to stop the bleeding on her stomach. But, she knew it was useless. There was no way Marie could survive that. Her mother had never - and could never - hurt anyone. So, why would someone do this to her?
She shushed her as Marie opened her mouth to say something. Her blue eyes filled with tears as she raised her bloody hand to touch her daughter's face one last time. Jade held her mother's hand to her cheek as she cried, assuring her that she would be fine, but deep down she knew it wasn't and would never be any more. She cried harder when her mother's hand went stiff and cold and her eyes shut close.
Jade screamed as she raised her mother's head to her chest. Her heart was in so much pain that she felt it might explode. She couldn't understand why her mother had to die.
She was still crying when two men approached her and dragged her mother's body away despite her struggles. Raising her head, she looked around the structure, which looked like a warehouse, that she was trapped in. There were seven of them. The people who ruined her life.
She glared at them as she noted down their faces, height, build, and everything. There were six men and one woman. They all had tattoos of a cat in their left arm except for the last one. He sat majestically on a chair behind her, smoking a cigar. He was wearing dark glasses and a face cap, successfully covering most of his face.
Jade could guess that he was the mastermind. The others were just working for him. When she would take her revenge, he'd be the one to suffer most.
“Blindfold her.” The man said coldly and the two men that had taken her mother away walked to her. She didn't struggle as they tied a piece of clothing around her eyes.
“What do we do about her, boss?” One of the men spoke, bringing Jade back to the present. She hadn't escaped yet and she was thinking of taking revenge.
“She'll eventually cause trouble.” Jade heard the man say, causing cold shivers to run down her spine. She could hear the sound of his footsteps as he walked toward her. “Get rid of her.” He uttered coldly as he held her face, puffing smoke on her face and making Jade cringe. “Or not. She's pretty and innocent. I want her.”
Jade frowned in disgust at the man's words and smell. How did he want her? What did he mean by innocent? She was still trying to figure it out when she felt his hand on her breast and she slapped him instinctively.
He slapped her back, making her head swirl. He slapped her again, causing her to bite the insides of her cheek and therefore making her bleed. Then he tried to place his hand again and she hit it away. Fear raced through every nerve in her body as he gave a cold, chilling laughter.
Then before she knew it, she lay on the floor with her hands over her head while he sat on top of her. He reached for the zip of her jeans pants while she struggled to get him off her. But, she was like an ant trying to fight off an elephant. As he succeeded in unzipping her pants and taking them off, Jade closed her eyes, waiting and hoping for death to take her away. Forever.
Jade rolled her eyes for the umpteenth time as she watched Shawn giggle softly at something Marie said. Just a few minutes ago, he had gone to return the permission card and had ended up leaving the cafeteria with her for a while. She had overlooked it as she didn't want to seem clingy but he had returned now and was sitting with her while she sat here waiting for him to come back so they could get food. She cringed as she watched him lock eyes with Marie, slowly reaching for her hair and picking out something from her afro puff. He blew it off into the air, still maintaining eye contact with her. She noticed changes in Marie's body language, her formerly relaxed smile was now tense, along with the rest of her body and she subconsciously began to wipe her hands against her skirt, indicating nervousness. It looked like a scene straight out of a drama. And, this was the scene where the female lead begins to fall in love with the protagonist. Not on her watch. This protagonist was h
Jade screamed angrily, tearing out and crumpling up a sheet of paper from her sketchbook. She threw it across the room and it landed on the floor close to the door, increasing the litter of crumpled paper and broken pencils in the room. She took a new pencil from behind her ears, her fingers shaky as she began to draw lines and curves, in readiness for another sketch. Closing her eyes, she tried to picture a face, Tiger's face - that was what they called him but she knew his name began with the letter H. However she was only met with an empty space and a heaviness in her heart that was trying to drag her down. She tried to remind herself of him - his lifeless gray eyes, his hair and beards that smelled like shampoo, the scent of his unfamiliar cologne, his cold lips, his strong muscular arms, his large callused hands, and his burly chest that had the tattoo of a tiger. She still couldn't remember his face. Just like the first day after she woke up. Her therapist had said it was due
Doink! The sound of a notification made its way out of Shawn's bag and he quickly dug into it, bringing his phone out of his bag. He unlocked his phone, eagerly looking through it. The text had come from his network provider and he hissed loudly, obviously disappointed. “Yes, Mr Beckett,” the voice of his teacher rang, startling him from his phone, and she started walking toward him, “we know calculus is boring but I thought that you would at least stay off your phone.” “I'm sorry, Miss V,” he said, holding onto his phone like it was some diamond he had just found, “it's just that Jade is supposed to be in this class but she's not here.” “You're here and right now, that's what matters. So if you don't put that phone away for the rest of my class, I'll hand it over to Principal Dolan to add to his collection for the year.” Shawn sighed softly and switched off his phone, putting it into his bag. “I'm sorry, Miss V.” “Don't apologize to me. If you were paying attention, you'd h
★ Two Weeks Later ★Jade jolted awake, her heart racing, and her sheets drenched in sweat. The remnants of her nightmare lingered, the image of a tattooed tiger on a man's chest etched in her mind. Suddenly, strong arms wrapped around her, holding her tight.Panic set in. She struggled to break free, her fists flailing wildly. “Let me go! No! Ah!” she screamed, her voice hoarse from sleep. But the grip only tightened. She kicked and squirmed, her mind still trapped in the darkness. Then, a gentle whisper pierced the haze: “Shh, Babygirl, it's okay. You're safe.”The voice was familiar and soothing as it slowly penetrated her fear. She paused, her chest heaving, and looked up into the face of the man holding her. He was her dad.Tears of relief mingled with lingering fear as she collapsed into his embrace. His arms cradled her, warm and protective, dispelling her doubts.“It was just a dream, Babygirl,” he whispered, stroking her hair. “You're safe now.”She shut her eyes, grateful tha
★One Year Ago★Jade sat on the floor, sobbing loudly and scratching her arms, trying to get rid of the feel of her harasser's skin against hers. She kept replaying the last few hours in her mind. She could still feel his body against hers and it made her feel worthless and dirty. And like a thousand bugs were crawling through her skin, eating her up. Her skin was hurting from all the scratching. And even though she couldn't see it, as she had been locked up in a very dark room, she knew it was bleeding. She could feel the warm liquid under her fingernails. But she didn't care. In fact, she wanted to peel off her skin completely. Maybe that would make her feel better.Or would it? She thought to herself, her body shaking as she cried even harder. These people. They had killed her mother. In the most inhumane way possible. They made her suffer before she died. And she slept through it all. If she had been awake, maybe she could have stopped them.Stop them? She mocked inside her head.
Jade hummed happily as she removed the chicken from the oven. She carefully carried it and placed it on the counter. She carried a tray containing Mac and cheese and put it in the oven. After closing it and setting the timer, she went back to chopping the cabbage she had been working on before the oven had beeped. She heard silent footsteps behind her and her nerves tensed up. The only person in the house who walked that quietly was Sally. She never forgave Sally for ruining her parents' marriage and she had planned on making life as miserable as she could for her. However, she had promised to be nicer to her and while she didn't know how to go about it, she knew it involved not chasing her out of the kitchen. “Uhm... Hi.” Sally said awkwardly, making Jade cringe. What on earth did Jacob see in a woman that struggles to even have a conversation? “What are you making?” Sally asked in an attempt to get Jade to talk. It was always like this, she would try to engage her in a conversat
