The smell was the first thing that led me towards the scene of my worst betrayal.
I was tracing the smell, It was intoxicating like the forest, cedar and mountain air. It sliced through the hallway of the Pack building, It was the kind of smell that made your soul sit up and take notice, and my wolf did exactly that, Nala, who had only been awake for twenty-four hours went absolutely feral in my mind. MATE! she screamed, her voice was a joyful roar that vibrated in it ferocity, she was excited. 'OURS! Our mate is somewhere there Jasmine!' I followed that scent frantically like a starving person follows the smell of fresh baked bread. I didn't care that I was in the restricted private rooms for high werewolves in the pack. I didn't care that my stepmother, Vivienne, would skin me alive if she found me here. All I cared about was the string pulling me toward the private chambers. But as I got closer, the intoxicating smell was drowned out by something else a salty, smell of sweat cloying with musk of sex. I faltered a bit and sniffed into the air twice to be sure. And then, the sound came faintly, a slapping sound of thrust, of skin against skin and a moan that I recognized instantly. "Oh, yes... right there! Don't stop, please!" It was my stepsister, Cecily. That's her voice, but what was she doing in a room where my supposed mate's smell was coming from? I pushed the door open without hesitation, and the world stopped moving. The sight before me burned into my retinas. Cecily My Step-sister was arched on all fours on a cushion, her back showing off her delicious curve in the bright light. Her designer dress was hiked up to her waist, the front zipper strained open, and her big breasts were spilling out as she gripped the edges of the cushion tightly. And behind her was Malakai. The Beta’s son. The golden boy of the Crested Mountains Pack. His trousers were bunched around his knees, held up only by the loose tangling of his belt, one of his hands was clamped onto Cecily’s waist holding her in place not minding if he was bruising her skin, while the other was buried in her long blonde hair, pulling her head back. And he was shamelessly fucking my step-sister on the day he was supposed to look for me and claim me as his mate. "Malakai?" My voice, I hated how it came out like a helpless whisper, barely audible over the sound of their moans and groans but I was sure they heard me quite well. Malakai froze a bit but didn't pull away immediately. He just slowly turned his head, his eyes glowed a fierce gold, the sign that his wolf was at the surface. He looked at me once his nostrils flared taking in my scent. He knew then, and for a split second I saw the shock, then saw the recognition, that moment he understood why I was there. He knew we were fated mates! Cecily looked over her shoulder, a slow, cat-like smirk spreading across her face. She looked so content without any atom of shame in her eyes. Rather, I sensed she's pissed though that I had intruded on their pleasure time. She adjusted herself, leaning back against Malakai’s sweaty chest, making sure I saw every inch of the skin she had just been touching. "Jasmine," Malakai called out, his voice came out husky and rough from their sexual exertion, he had finally pulled back, and was slowly adjusting his clothes as if I were nothing more than an annoying fly that had interrupted his delicious meal, there was no guilt in his eyes. "You’re... you’re my mate," I said, the words almost choking in my throat as I forced my voice to be bold and loud. Tears had somehow began to blur my vision. "Silly girl" Malakai snorted, a dry laugh that raked out his throat. He stepped toward me, buttoning his pants, the scent of him now tainted by the smell of my sister. He stopped just inches from my face, towering over me. "Do you really think the Moon Goddess would give a future Beta a mate as weak and pathetic as you?" "You shifted a year late, Jasmine. You’re a fluke. A mistake." he hissed, his voice was cold and mean, not what i was expecting at all, i was expecting maybe an apology? remorse? "But the bond—" "The bond means nothing to me Jasmine. I don't want to be mated to you," he interrupted, his lip curled in disgust. He turned his gaze back to Cecily looking at her softly, my step-sister was now casually zipping her dress, watching us with a bored expression. Besides, " he continued, "I always had someone in mind, I’ve already made my choice. I don't want a shadow, weak and weird wolf female like you Jasmine. I want a worthy female wolf. "I, Malakai Wulfred of the Crested Mountains Pack, reject you, Jasmine Ashford, as my mate and my Beta-female." With that they both left, not giving a single glance back at me. No no ! I screamed, shaking my head. The pain I felt was too agonising, it was like a hot spear driven directly through my wolf-heart. I had put so much hope on finding my mate. Now only twenty-four hours after my first shift, i was bonded with Malakai just to have that bond being brutally ripped out by the roots. Nala my wolf gave an agonising whimper then went terrifyingly silent, retreating into the deepest, darkest corner of my mind. The world went silent. I didn't realize it at first. I was too busy gasping for air, clutching my chest as I stumbled back unto the hallway. My knees gave out, and I hit the floor hard, the cold floor bite into my skin, i didn't know how long I was down there until I heard Freya's voice. "Jasmine? “Oh my god, Jas!" My best friend scrambled toward me, her face twisted in pure panic. She knelt beside me, her hands hovered over my shaking shoulders. Usually, Freya smelled like a comforting mix of sweet jasmine and honey, a scent that could always ground me. I hugged her tightly, my lungs were burning and I couldn't breathe well, I inhaled the air around her neck waiting for that familiar smell that always seemed to settle my nerves. But there was nothing. I leaned in more, still nothing, I reached out, grabbing Freya’s sleeves "Freya... I can’t smell you." She froze, her eyes widened. "What do you mean? I'm right here..."~Kalean’s Pov I was already used to it. "We had matters to attend to," I replied evenly, keeping my hands clasped loosely behind my back. He looked at me with eyes that mirrored my own. "Matters? You mean the girl you brought back with you to Ravenwood?" He stood up, leaning his palms on his desk. "You turn twenty-five in a few months, Kalean. The Coronation is upon us. You need to get a Luna of our choosing, a queen from the high aristocracy who can command the pack by your side, not that little girl I smelled back at the entrance, not an unknown wolf from that school which you should have wrapped up by now, only the moon goddess knows why you boys keep dragging it," he muttered the last words, his voice moving from high to low. His disregard for Jasmine felt like an insult against our bond. "She's our mate, Father; we have marked her," I stated clearly, not even asking for his permission. His jaw tightened. "Thankfully she hasn't marked you personally, so you
-Kalean's POV-I left Jasmine’s room, my mind filled with thoughts about everything that has transpired lately. I rolled my shoulders, feeling my Lycan tattoos stretch across my back and down my arms, I was the only one marked this way, these dark lines were not merely for design, they were a reflection of the brutal training I had endured and received since I was a child. As the firstborn of the triplets, the crown was my burden to bear; my father had meticulously ensured my beast nature was honed into a weapon. Everyone in the territory feared Kane, my wolf. He was notoriously ruthless with strength that I kept suppressed every now and then, right now , Kane was snarling, pacing relentlessly at the corners of my mind. He wanted blood…the blood of that sick bastard who rejected our mate and caused her to lose touch with her wolf, our little mate, was not only smell-blind but unable to transform. I clenched my fist, trying to keep my claws from protruding, if I set my eyes on hi
~Jasmine~ "Back in the Crested Mountains," I said lightly. The trauma was still there; heck, I was still being haunted over and over in my dreams. I was so far away from crested mountains but the horror followed me everywhere! I gripped my own arms, feeling cold all over. "We need to get Rivera the healer to check on her. She would be able to know how to help her get her wolf back and her sense of smell," Lucien suggested. "To do that, we will need the royal seal from Father. That is the only way to summon her quickly," Kalean stated, lost in deep thought. I was getting confused now. Why involve the King so soon? "Why does she need to be summoned with a royal seal? Weird! she can't just be called to come check on me tomorrow?" I asked. "Rivera is not just your usual healer, Jasmine. She possesses rare power and treats only high-ranking supernaturals across the realm. Rumors have it that she even sees visions," Caspian clarified. "I see," I replied as a ray of hope began to ap
~Jasmine~When the Princes claimed me as their mate that morning in the penthouse, I was frightened because I knew… I knew…. this would one day happen I was bothered I had lost my sense of smell after my first rejection. I took a deep breath, testing the air around me again. Nothing. I couldn't pick up the scent of the three powerful werewolf princes standing right in front of me. I couldn't reach my wolf, and I was unable to transform into my wolf nature. I closed my eyes, searching for the familiar warmth of her in my mind, but there was only a cold, dark wall. Then, I knew what I was running from, it was from this, this look they were giving me right now, like they have just heard the most unbelievable thing ever. Their jaws were tight, their eyes wide and completely still. Which werewolf can't transform into their wolf? Which werewolf can't use their sense of smell?I rubbed my chest. I still keep wondering why this happened to me, why me?! Why that night of the full moo
~Jasmine~ "Stay the fuck out of my head," I added, glaring fiercely at him, I immediately placed a mental block in my mind. My thoughts were the only private sanctuary I had left in this overwhelming place, and I deeply dislike him violating that space without permission. "Show-off!" Caspian muttered under his breath, "I'm sorry," Lucien spoke softly, I began to feel guilt for yelling at him. He was only trying to reassure me, to comfort my insecurities, I sighed. "I just can't help it, Jasmine. You hardly say your mind aloud, so you can't blame me for checking in on you," Lucien added gently. Well, try growing up in a house as hostile as mine and see if you can say your mind whenever you feel like it, I thought quietly. Silence and absolute compliance had been my only reliable defense for years, a situation where speaking up only resulted in punishment, you learned to swallow your thoughts and become invisible, old habits they say were hard to break, more especial
~Jasmine~As soon as we stepped foot inside the castle, my steps faltered. The sight before me was a bit frightening in a good way. I felt incredibly small. The architecture was deliberately designed to intimidate anyone who walked through these royal doors, and it was working flawlessly on me. Every design seemed to radiate absolute authority, wealth and power."Wow, this is breathtaking," I commented as Kalean stopped beside me to watch my reaction."Close your mouth," I heard him say bluntly, I snapped my mouth shut. I could not even blame myself for this raw reaction, the grandeur was absolutely overwhelming, I heard a deep chuckle, then turned to see Caspian laughing at my clear shock."Do you like it?" Lucien whispered, coming to stand closely beside me."Like it? I love it!" I replied in reverence. My voice was small as I was still taking in the beautiful scene. Whoever decorated this throne room possessed perfect vision. The queen, I assumed. Judging from our brief e
~Kalean~“Kalean! Kalean, please don’t do this to me,” she pleaded, desperately grabbing my legs.I couldn't stand her touching me. I pulled my legs out of her grip with a jerk, forcing her off and sending her rolling backward onto the floor. Instead of giving up, she scrambled straight toward Ja
~Jasmine~ He was an unbelievable great kisser, passionate, commanding, and consuming. His tongue teased mine, it felt so arousing a small hungry moan escaped my mouth. Just as the fire between us began to build, he pulled away, leaving me breathless and panting as I tried to contain the wave o
~Jasmine~"Hey, is everything okay with Caspian?" Sofia whispered to me, "I'm not really sure what's wrong, to be honest. I don't think it's because of me, though, because he walked out of the clinic looking absolutely furious," I replied, trying to make sense of his sudden departure."Yes, I noti
~Jasmine~ "What the hell happened to her, Lucien?" Kalean boomed as he came forward to meet me, his voice full of pure possessive rage. I noticed Caspian stopped midway, his hand remaining fisted tightly by his sides "It's nothing, I'm fine," I said quickly trying to calm the tension in the r
