Jacob

The moment Kenny’s voice cut through the silence in the dining hall, my stomach twisted.

“Where were you last night, Couz?”

I froze, and my hand tightened on the fork. He knew about me and Daniel.

I was right.

He was in the woods last night. The way he was looking at me… grinning from ear to ear like he’d figured out my biggest secret.

It made my skin itch.

“What are you talking about, K? I was in my room.” I tried to keep my voice steady, but the words came out sharper than I’d expected, but I maintained my composure.

This wasn’t the time to start shaking, or else he would see right through me, through the fake confidence I’d put up.

Kenny smiles, stabbing the peas on his plate with his fork. He stared at me like he was waiting for some answer. “You weren’t in your room last night. I came back but you weren’t there.”

My heart pounded so loudly, that I feared everyone in the hall would hear. “Fuck! No no no!”

Why did he have to come back? Why?

Pretended I didn’t hear and just continued with my meal. Daniel didn’t come to breakfast. His seat was empty, as was his friends.

“Were you in the woods last night?”

My throat suddenly went dry as I coughed out the food in my mouth out of shock. “W… why would…” I cleared my throat, trying to swallow the lump that was stuck in it. “Why would I be in the woods.” The words finally came out as I’d intended.

“Could’ve sworn I saw you and D…”

Dropped my fork faster than lightning and covered Kenny’s mouth before he said any more words. He kept kicking, raising both his hands to show that he wouldn’t say a word about the woods again.

l let him go but my lungs seized to produce air. Couldn’t breathe. It felt like the walls were closing in on me and Kenny’s smug didn’t help matters. He’d seen us.

Fuck!

Kenny laughed, shaking his head and I could see he was enjoying taunting me. “Come on Couz, you don’t have to keep things from me.”

I wanted to punch him hard in the face. To scream but I couldn’t because if I did, it would just make everything worse than it already is.

Managed to get up from my chair and walked away. It was the only thing left to do.

My body began trembling as soon as I left the dining hall.

Lunch was awful. Glad I’d escaped. Sat in class, surrounded by those judgy familiar faces but I couldn’t hear a word they spoke. All I could think about was Kenny. About Daniel. About how one wrong reckless move could ruin every single thing. The scholarship. What I have going on with Daniel. Not seeing Mr Richard ever again.

Someone was suddenly trying to make a conversation but I was barely responding. My eyes drifted to Daniel, sitting close to the window and just looking outside. He suddenly looked in my direction and I looked away immediately, my heart making weird sounds.

He started laughing at something Reggie said, completely unaware that our little secret could be out in the open any second from now.

I should tell him. But how?

If Kenny decides to talk. To tell everyone what he saw in the woods… what then? It wouldn’t be just a rumor anymore.

“The charity case caught locking lips with the prince of New York City.”

Found Daniel outside after class, he was leaning against the wall, scrolling through his phone, and for a minute, I just stood there and watched him.

The way the first two buttons on his shirt were left open. The way his tongue moved over his lips.

He looked up to see me and I wanted to run back inside. He’d ignore me anyway like he always does. Turned to go back inside when he spoke.

“Hey.”

I turned to see him smiling.

The kind of smile that makes my chest ache. Every part of my body.

“Hey,” I replied, trying to sound normal.

Maybe Daniel knew me more than I thought he did. His beautiful smile suddenly fades. “Are you okay?”

The question had come as a shock. Daniel Cobbs was asking if I was okay. Never thought I’d leave to see this day.

Glanced around to make sure no one was coming before stepping close. “We need to talk.”

He nodded and followed me to a quiet spot just at the back of one of the buildings.

“Kenny knows,” I said, my voice shaking.

Daniel’s expression changed from confusion to what seemed like concern. “What are you talking about?”

“About us. The woods last night.” I tried to catch my breath. “He saw us.”

Daniel went still for a minute before speaking. “What!?”

He cornered me at lunch, asking questions.

Daniel let out a loud breath, running a hand through his hair and just walking around in circles. “Fuck! Fuck!”

We stood there in silence for a while, the weight of what might happen if Kenny decided to talk pressing down on us.

“What are we going to do,” I ask.

“Right now? We do nothing. I’ll take care of it.”

That was very reassuring. He was Daniel Cobbs after all, he could take care of everything. I exhaled before slumping down on the bench close to the wall.

The rest of the afternoon passed by very slowly.

Kenny would casually just walk past me every chance he got and my skin would itch. He didn’t say a word to me but the look he gave me was enough.

I tried so hard to focus in class but my mind had plans of its own. It kept circling the same question. “What if uncle jack finds out?”

A notification came on my phone. A text… from Uncle Jack.

“Fuck!”

DanielThe final gavel echoed through the courtroom, filling the space with a sense of finality. With a clank, the cold steel bars slid shut, sealing them away for good. I watched Jacob from across the room. He stood tall and steady. His shoulders were rigid, and though his chin was slightly raised, he didn’t shed a tear or flinch. He didn’t look my way, but I understood the significance of his silence. He felt free.We walked out together, quiet as a couple of shadows, saying nothing until we reached the car. I unlocked it, opened his door, and he slid in like he had done it countless times before. As the door closed, he finally glanced at me.“They’re gone,” he said, barely above a whisper.“Yeah,” I replied.“You saw it?”“I did.”Jacob nodded, and I could see it in his eyes. He was still piecing together the aftermath, still trying to figure out what came next, if anything lay ahead for us. I didn’t break the silence as I drove us home.Once inside, Jacob stood by the firepla

Jacob It’d been weeks since I last saw Daniel.I’d run back to hide in the one place I knew he wouldn’t dare to come looking. The room in that big apartment was dim, illuminated only by the weak glow of a streetlight filtering in from outside. I couldn’t quite wrap my head around how I ended up back here… Nathan's place of all places. I thought I'd managed to leave that behind…the pain, the manipulation, that endless tug-of-war between love and hate.Maybe I’d come here to find closure. Sitting on the edge of the couch, I pulled the thin blanket tighter around me, feeling a tightness in my chest. The walls felt like they were closing in, as if the heavy weight of my past had seeped into every corner of this place, clinging to the air around me. But deep down, I knew this wasn’t where I was meant to be.For weeks, I had run from the truth, from Daniel. And now, here I sat, alone. Hiding. But a part of me always understood that no matter how far I ran, he would find me. He alw

  • Jacob Hale: Enemy’s Secret Toy   Chapter 148

Jacob The day I'd been waiting for had finally arrived. For weeks, it felt like I was stuck in a relentless cycle of betrayal, heartbreak, and lies. But now, everything was changing. The ones responsible for my pain… the people who had turned my life upside down… were finally facing justice.I could hardly wrap my head around it. My mind kept revisiting the betrayals and the twisted situation I’d been caught in. Nathan, Richard, and Mathew… Nathan’s Dad, those three had thrown my life into chaos, and now, their time was up. The authorities had gathered enough evidence, and it was just a matter of time before they were all locked away, hopefully for good.I played my part in bringing them to face the law, but Daniel did the rest. Even though he didn’t tell me, and even though we hadn’t spoken for weeks, I knew it was him.As I watched the police officers carry on with their work, an odd feeling washed over me. Part of me felt relieved, but another part felt wasn’t, as if this wo

  • Jacob Hale: Enemy’s Secret Toy   Chapter 147

Jacob The room felt chilly, the air filled with hidden truths. I could still recall the sting of the ropes digging into my skin, my body bound to that chair. It wasn’t just my hands that were trapped, everything else was. My mind, my heart, every part of me was held captive by forces beyond my grasp. The darkness surrounding me wasn’t merely the absence of light. It represented the absence of hope, of trust. I had spent countless hours, days, maybe weeks just trying to make sense of it all. Without a clock or sunlight to mark time’s passage, I was left with only the suffocating silence.Still, even amidst that darkness, I couldn’t stop my thoughts. I kept circling back, trying to comprehend how I ended up there. It wasn’t solely the physical pain haunting me, it was the emotional turmoil. The betrayal. Richard’s… Nathan’s betrayal.I had believed in him, and let him into my life and my heart. He was my family… or at least, that’s what I thought. But the man I had loved had trans

It all stemmed from her need to control and manipulate those around her for her own selfish gainsEven though she masked it was ‘protection’.At first, I couldn’t bring myself to believe it. I just couldn’t. But the evidence was undeniable, and as the pieces of this twisted puzzle came together, the full extent of her betrayal became painfully clear.

JacobThe truth hit me hard like a brick. I thought I had Nathan all figured out… who he was, what he wanted, what he was capable of…but this? This revelation completely impaired my perception. He was married? To. A wife. A woman.I struggled to wrap my head around it at first. The shock left me numb. It wasn’t just that Nathan had a wife, it was that he’d hidden it from me, the very person he claimed to love, the one he’d played with and lied to for years. The one he almost married.I had trusted him, despite everything that had happened. I had been blind, lost in my desire to believe he was something he wasn’t.How could he do this? How could he stand there, day after day, telling me we were destined to be together while lying to my face the entire time? The anger surged through me, hot and relentless. But beneath the fury, a chilling realization settled in.Nathan had never been the person I thought he was. He had used me, manipulated my emotions, and concealed the most importan
