Matt

Finally, a stroke of luck. It was one of the pack warriors who was out with his family at the falls.

He gladly gave me some sweats for Taylor to put on so we wouldn’t have to wait for clothes to be brought from the house. If we had been on human territory, they would have just called the cops or run away screaming, but werewolves aren’t squeamish about sex and nudity at all, so our afternoon wasn’t ruined. Not completely.

“Sorry about Logan. Being outside in nature kind of brings him out

Matt“You want me to do what?”“We just need to know if you’d be willing to convince a certain shewolf into working with us,” Kade cryptically said. “Right. And why can’t one of you four do it?” Tyson asked. “Uhh …”“Oh, for fucks sake. Tyson, North River pack was once on good terms with us until I refused to marry their Alpha’s daughter, Claudia. Then, a few months ago, I refused to build a couple of hotels for her because she was a bitch to Taylor. They have connections that we may or may not need. We’re not sure yet, but if we do, we’ll need someone who hasn’t pissed her off before to bring her in,” I said. “And by ‘convince’ and ‘bring her in,’ I’m guessing you aren’t suggesting friendly conversation. And obviously, you’re not asking me to kill her, so that only leaves sex. You guys want me to fuck this chick for information and connections. Am I right?”“Not necessarily, but it could come to that. She can be a little frisky,” Xander said with a laugh. “You could have just sai

Kade“Fuck! How do you catch me with that move every time?”“Because I’m better than you are. Once you accept it, your face will thank you.”Tyson and I had been sparring for a while now. It had become our Wednesday morning routine, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t read him. This guy was an incredible fighter, probably one of the best I’d ever seen, and I was determined to kick his ass. Hopefully. He dropped his arms and blew out a breath. “You’re approaching this all wrong. Stop thinking of this like you’re fighting another wolf. Wolves are pack animals; bears are solitary. One-on-one, based on size alone, a bear would destroy a wolf. But when you’re part of a pack, the odds even out.”“I know all that. What’s your point?”“My point is, every Wednesday, you come out here to beat me as your only goal. And you leave disappointed each time. How about you learn from me instead? You’re putting your focus and energy in the wrong place. You’ve got to walk before you can run.”A

  • Jaded Hearts   FIFTY | BED REST

DrewNinety-six days. That’s how long I’ve been laid up in this filth hole, fighting for my life. I don’t know what those Blue Moon fucks did to me, but I haven’t heard from my wolf Killian since I woke up, and without him, I’ve been unable to heal properly. Three months of lying in bed, dealing with the pain of shattered knee caps, third-degree burns, broken bones, deep gashes and punctures, and disgusting infections. But the pain I can deal with; it only lasts for so long. Bones and burns would heal, and gashes would eventually close. Some things, though, would never heal. Not everything could be rectified with time. When the Gamma took that saw and cut off my right arm, I’d never before felt that type of agony. And he watched as I screamed and kicked. He made me weak and took pleasure in it. I would never be able to fight and protect myself again; never be able to hand out punishments to the unworthy, or be a wolf worth fearing. He took everything from me, and I’d return the favo

MattThree months later …It took a lot of convincing, but I was finally able to convince Taylor not to call off the baby shower that our moms had worked so hard to plan. Shortly after Drew disappeared, we told her parents what was happening so that they would take precautions. That meant that we also had to tell them that their daughter was now a wolf. When they found out, Robert and Nancy refused to take our calls for weeks, but I think they were more hurt that they were kept in the dark than anything else. Eventually, they came around, and now here we are, about to celebrate the fact that our daughter would be born in less than four weeks. I admit that it was hard to celebrate, but Taylor needed the distraction. We all did. There hadn’t been one sighting of Drew since he escaped, and we had no clue where to find him. We had some of the best trackers in the world, but still came up with nothing. But today, I wanted to see Taylor’s beautiful smile and hear her laugh. I wanted her

MattI didn’t sleep last night. I just couldn’t. I was never the guy who got pleasure out of someone else’s pain, and I never thought that I would disrespect my mate. But in the span of one night, I did both, and I didn’t know who I was anymore. The sun wasn’t up yet, so as quietly as I could, I crept downstairs and to the kitchen. I was surprised to see Tyson there, drinking coffee and sitting in the dark. Xander had a guest room set up for him on the second floor while his living situation was being figured out. “What are you doing up? You’ve got a beautiful woman in your bed, and you’re down here?”I walked to the coffee pot and poured myself a huge cup, then went and sat next to him. “Last night was fucked up. I never expected things to go as far as they did.”“It’s a fucked up world we live in, but you knew that going in. So, what’s the real issue?”“I enjoyed it.”“Ahh. Well, that’s different.”“Yeah.”We sat in silence for a few minutes before he dropped some words of wisdom

  • Jaded Hearts   FORTY-SEVEN | TORTURE

MattTaylor was tucked in bed, fast asleep, and she was safe. I would never have to worry about something happening when she was out of my sight again, and I’ve never been more relieved. I stood in the basement watching as Tyson and Kade snapped silver-coated shackles onto Drew’s wrists and hoisted him up into the air. I had no idea how much tranquilizer Tyson had given him, but he was comatose the entire ride home. “You gentlemen ready to wake him up?” Tyson asked. “Absolutely. I’ve waited long enough,” I said, stepping closer to Drew’s dangling body. Kade walked over to the table in the corner and picked up a syringe and a blow torch. “Which one? I’m sure either will get the job done.”“Why not both?”He smiled at me, then handed me the blowtorch while he positioned the syringe of wolfsbane at Drew’s neck. Once I had the torch lit, I looked over his body to find the best spot to begin. I settled on his left hand. It was the closest, and I’m sure he used it more than a few time
