CHAPTER 23

Verania's Point of View

Ares is still dragging me away from Alder. I didn't object, but my mind is brimming with curiosity about what's genuinely unfolding.

As we distanced ourselves and stood beneath the chestnut tree, that's when I finally had the chance to inquire.

"Why did we actually move away from them?" I inquired, and his eyes swiftly averted from me, which prompted a mischievous grin to surface on my lips as I contemplated something playful.

"You know, it appears like you want to have me all to yourself," I remarked with a broad grin and a teasing tone.

He turned serious, and I noticed the clenching of his jaw. He's taking this way too seriously, perhaps even getting irritated with me.

He sighed and closed his eyes for a moment, then looked back at me with a more composed expression. Good, his gaze was back to normal. I thought he'd be peeved at what I stated... He tends to get irritated quickly when he's in a foul mood...
