Andrea’s Dream

With a wide smile on her face, Andrea set the table for the umpteenth time checking if everything was perfect.

She picked up the pregnancy test strip and checked it again. It was positive just like it had been all day.

Her smile grew wider as she placed it on a plate and covered it. She is about to surprise her husband.

This has been what they wanted, what he wanted from her for the past three years. To give him the first heir of the Blackmores ’ empire.

It's a miracle she got pregnant because they have been trying for three years.

She looked at the time on her phone again and smiled happily. He would be home in five minutes.

She giggled to herself again as she stared at the table.

She took a seat, waiting for him to show up.

Minutes turned to hours and hours felt like forever to Andrea waiting for Lewis to show up.

She checked the time again and it was past midnight.

With tears welling up in her eyes, Andrea cleared the table. She shouldn't be hurt that he didn't show up.This was normal but it hurts because she was excited to break the news to him.

Her marriage with Lewis has been hell but she hoped it would get better one day. She has hope now, the pregnancy is hope.

It will bring them together.

She knows Lewis doesn't love her despite how he pretends to. Their marriage was forced but she thought he would love her with time. Besides, her love was enough for both of them. Lewis is her dream, he has always been her dream since high school.

It's been three years and Lewis hasn't reciprocated the love.

With tears in her eyes, she walked into the living room, and at the same time, the door opened revealing the last person she expected to see with her husband.

It was his ex-girlfriend. Allison West. They were holding hands and she was grinning from ear to ear.

“Lewis,” Andrea called, exhaling heavily and forcing a smile despite tears in her eyes.

“Hey, Andrea,” Allison called and Andrea faked a smile at her and hurriedly wiped her tears.

“Can you go up to my room to wait for me? You still recall where it is, right?” he asked Allison and she nodded.

“Of course,” she replied softly and surprisingly, kissed him.

Andrea’s eyes widened as she watched them. She pulled away from Lewis and headed up the stairs.

“Wha… What is going on? What is she doing here and what just happened?” Andrea rushed her words walking towards him.

“Allison got back in the city three months ago and we have been back together since then. I have been keeping this from you and I think it's time for you to know,” he said and Andrea furrowed her brows finding his words confusing.

“Huh?”

“Three years ago, we got married because of a business deal between our fathers and I had to break up with Allison despite loving her. I can't keep lying and pretending to love you, Andrea. You know I don't love you and I never will. I love Allison and I want to be with her.” he added and Andrea shook her head sharply then laughed.

“No, no. This is a joke right? Are you mad at me? Is this about us not having a child yet?” she asked and he shook his head a little.

“No. I don't just love you… “

“Lewis, I’m pregnant.” She cut him off and for a second, she could see this flash of emotion in his eyes but it disappeared immediately it showed up.

“I’m pregnant. I’m finally carrying the first heir of the Blackmores ’ Empire. This is what we wanted, right? We have it now.” she said and Lewis shook his head a little.

“Allison is pregnant. Allison is carrying the first child of the Blackmore Empire. You don't have to lie… “

“I’m not lying.” Her voice shook as she cut him off and tears welled up in her eyes.

“Look. I took this in the morning and it’s positive. I took five more to confirm. I’m pregnant, Lewis.” she said in tears as she showed him the test.

He looked at it and then up at her. She smiled in tears and nodded at him. Her heart was racing in fear as she waited for him to say something.

Instead, he took a step back and pulled out a brown file from the bag he was holding.

He stretched it to her and Andrea took it immediately and sniffed. She opened it and she shook her head repeatedly as tears streamed down her cheeks.

“Di… divorce papers?” she asked.

“You can sign them tonight or tomorrow when you are leaving. You have until then to leave my house,” he replied and Andrea shook her head in response.

“No, no. You can't do this to me. We have been together for three years, Lewis. I… I don't care if you don't love me, I love you and I am pregnant and that is all that matters.”

“And Allison?” Lewis asked and Andrea sniffed.

“Allison doesn't have to come between us. It will be just us,” she replied in tears and Lewis shook his head.

“Sign the divorce papers, Andrea,” he said, and was about to walk past her when she fell to her knees.

“Please, Lewis. If you kick me out I have nowhere to go.” she cried as she held his feet.

“I can't go back home, my dad won't take me back and you know that. Please.” she pleaded and Lewis stared down at her.

“Lewis.” They heard a soft voice call and they turned to see Allison at the stairs.

“Come to bed, Lewis. It's late,” he told her and Lewis stared down at Andrea who was in tears.

She held his gaze and his feet tightly. Her eyes were pleading.

“Lewis, please.” she whimpered as tears streamed down her cheeks.

“Sign the divorce papers, Andrea. You have until morning to leave my house.”
