LOGINLucia's POV
“Lucy,” someone called my name in a sing-song voice. A door slammed against the wall. I jumped to my feet, holding up my gun. Daniel stood, watching me with wide eyes. Wait a minute. Daniel? My memories rushed back in so quickly that my head spun. Reese. Kathy. The explosions and…my death. I died, my organs bursting from the effects of the LP-124 pill. My hands flew to my face. There was no blood. Not even the slightest pain in my body. “Lucia?” “Daniel!” I exclaimed and pulled him into a hug. My eyes prickled with tears as the image of bunker 1 imploding and capsizing filled my mind. My baby brother. I thought I would never see him again. “Lucy, what's going on?” Daniel asked but he hugged me anyway. His hands were warm, too real to be a dream. I leaned back and cupped his cheeks. “You're alive,” I whispered. Daniel frowned. “I am?” I stumbled backwards, my mind reeling as I tried to figure out what was going on. My gaze darted around the room, finally fixing on the calendar hanging above my mirror. February of the thirteenth year of the uprising. Thirteenth year? That was five years ago. “Reese.” I turned to my brother. “Do you know Reese?” “Who's Reese?” Daniel held me. “Are you alright, Lucy?” A broken laugh slipped from my lips. This did not make sense. It did not. But somehow, I was five years younger, standing in my bedroom in South Central City, looking at my very alive brother. My city had not been bombed. The humans were not dead. And I hadn't met that bastard yet. Hold on. February 1st. Wasn’t this the day I met Reese for the first time? *** Daniel peeked over my shoulder at the concoction that I was brewing. “What are these for?” “A new compound. Lycanthropy suppressants.” His eyes widened. “Is that what I think it means?” I hummed. “I thought…the lab said it was still in the works!” The first version of the compound should have been made three years from now in my personal laboratory in Reese’s basement. By the time I died, five smoke pellets were enough to decapacitate dozens of wolves in minutes. “Yes, they are. But these are in vapour so they do not last too long like the liquid. Maybe twenty minutes.” Once I had more time to work, I could make some that lasted far longer. The door of the lab opened and the head of my bodyguards, Peter, entered the room. “Lucia, the meeting starts in five.” “So what? We still have time.” “It’s a twenty-minute drive. We do not want them to think we are rude.” I gave Peter a stink-eye. He had always been a stickler for rules to a fault. “It’s twenty minutes. They can wait,” I spat. In my last life, they made us wait for an entire hour and still had the audacity to bring that insult of a contract to me. Because I was exhausted from all the fighting, I signed it anyway. Not this time. The meeting was to be held at the town hall in neutral territory. By the time we arrived, we met their trucks parked outside, the wolves milling about restlessly in the yard. When we got out of the car, the wolves turned their glares on us. “One hour. One fucking hour. How dare you make us wait that long?!” I knew that screech anywhere. I walked to the front of the town hall, stretching my hand for a handshake. “You must be Katherine Welsley.” The arrogant look on her face vanished. “How do you know who I am?” My eyes scanned her from top to bottom, stopping at her exposed cleavage and booty shorts. “Your reputation as a slut precedes you.” “Fucking hell,” Peter swore as the entire yard went deadly quiet. Katherine’s eyes blazed with fury. “Excuse me?” “I mean, we are all the way in the south and we have heard about your sexual escapades. It is nice to see that in this period of peace, some still have the heart for certain liberties.” My head was knocked back from the force of her slap. “Fuck,” I said, spitting out the blood in my mouth, crushing the small ball in my hand. “That wolf strength is no joke.” Her eyes glowed amber and then, nothing. Her breath shook as she looked down at her body. “What did you do to me?” she whispered harshly. “Does your wolf feel a little absent?” I taunted her as the vapour of the suppressants spread further, enveloping the entire yard. “You bitch! What did you–” “Enough!” At the sound of Reese’s voice, my hands clenched into fists but I kept my polite smile on my face. “Lucia Everton, you are a far cry from what I have been told,” Reese said as he stepped out of his truck. “As an Alpha, I would hope that you would be less inclined to listen to rumours.” “Alpha?” he said. “I have never heard a human refer to me as such. You seem to know a lot about our world.” Being a Luna would do that to a person. I shrugged. “A bit of research here and there. It is difficult to fight a war against a species that you know nothing about.” “This damn war. It makes me so exhausted, you know?” That stupid smile of his had charmed me blind in my last life. “Bullshit.” Reese’s smile vanished. “Could you repeat that?” Daniel grabbed my sleeve and tugged on it. “Lucy…” I signalled Peter to take Daniel into the car. When I was sure my brother was safe, I turned to face the wolves surrounding me on every side. “Bull. Shit.” Half of them lost it instantly, snarling at me. A second passed, two and nothing happened. I looked around. “Is there a problem?” “You witch, what did you do?” Kathy cried and then turned to Reese. “I have no idea what she did but–” Reese raised a hand in the air, ceasing the complaints of his people. “Anti-lycanthropy,” he said slowly. I smirked. “Surprised?” His lips tugged upwards, his amber eyes shining with glee. “Impressed.” “Good. Now, how about you toss that bullshit contract you brought along and we sit down and talk?”Lucia’s POVIt was a strange feeling to want to be back in Northernfang. Not because of some misplaced nostalgia but because of their expansive library of information. It would have been easier to trace exactly how wyverns were created if I had access to compendiums of other species.Daniel and I were walking around the city, both of us in our own minds while enjoying each other’s presences.Jodie followed behind us but on one of the wyverns. Fayern had still not broken the mate bond between himself and Jodie but he had somehow gotten comfortable with the idea of sharing her with Daniel.Last I checked, all species that had mates did not share theirs. Was this something that was unique to just wyverns or perhaps just Fayern or could it give us a clue to the bigger picture of whatever species they could have descended from.“Looking at him from under here, he kind of looks like a dragon,” Daniel muttered. My head snapped up, eyes narrowing. “Makes sense.”Except that dragons were not r
Lucia' POVJorgsten laid back on the floor, staring at the ceiling. “So what? Are we going to burst into Northernfang to steal a Duchess back?”“That doesn't make sense,” Daniel replied. “They probably keep her somewhere out of reach. We would need to be in Northernfang to know where they would hide her.”My legs were crossed, mapping the entire Northernfang in my head. I did not have much freedom in a sense but Reese never restricted my movements. I could not think of anywhere in the pack that I had never been,Even in the dungeons.Reese let me go down to the dungeons myself to get the samples I needed for my experiments. He could not even be bothered to clean up the bodies before I took them.I had been to all of the secret places in Northernfang. There was no way they could be hiding a whole Duchess with experiment labs and I would not have found out by now.“She is not in Northernfang,” I said, certain.Reese was a very paranoid man, guarding his pack like he expected enemies to
Lucia’s POVRyan was glued to the wall, watching me like I was a criminal. My smile remained on my face as I took pleasure in torturing him by displaying the different pictures I took off my microscope slides through my projector. His gaze would slide from the projected image to my face and his grimace would get deeper.“What is it?” I asked when I finally introduced Jorgsten’s blood to the flesh samples.Ryan opened his mouth and then decided against speaking, settling on shaking his head.I turned towards him fully. “What is the—”The hairs on the back of my neck straightened. It was by pure instinct that I darted out of the way before the explosion triggered, instinctively curling to protect my head. The explosion was loud enough to rattle the chairs and tables in my lab.A few seconds passed before I looked up.Ryan stood at the other end of the room, staring down at something. “Does this happen often?”“What?” I asked, holding onto the wall to get to my feet.It took a while for
Lucia’s POVAs I walked into the lab, Mara greeted me cheerily. “Good morning…”Then, she trailed off when Ryan stepped in behind me. Her gaze scanned my body and then moved to Ryan.My hand wrapped around the back of her neck and turned her around. “Just what are you thinking?”Mara kept glancing back at him as he followed us. “I don't know. I just kept thinking about it. Nothing happened?”I noticed the exact moment Ryan decided to listen in on our conversation. He slowed down for a moment as if deciding if he should eavesdrop and then returned to his regular speed.“Nothing,” I hissed, still not sure how far he could hear. Perhaps I should test it out one day.Without his knowledge, of course.I thrust my bag at her, pushing her towards the common room. “Mara, go!”Her brows were still scrunched. Then, her eyes lit up and she started to scurry away.I was not sure what she was thinking but as long as Ryan did not find out what was going on in her head or about our conversation abou
Lucia's POV“Get him out of this city already,” Peter hissed low as we stared across from Jorgsten.Jorgsten had already dropped the act, shaking off the chains like they were plastic toys. Right now, he was whining for me to give him food to eat.I looked at Ryan, exhaustion evident in my voice. “Can you get him to shut up? I need to think.”Ryan rushed to open the glass door like he had been waiting for the opportunity for ages. Jorgsten scrambled to his feet and stepped backwards. “Hey, Lucia. Can you get this mad man away from—”“Clench your jaw,” Ryan said, cracking his knuckles. “I would not want you to accidentally bite your tongue and die.”Peter blocked my view of them with his body, steering me out of the cell. “Why don't we leave them to it and talk outside?”The last thing I heard before Peter closed the door was a terrifying shriek.“So?”I pinched the bridge of my nose. “Peter, if we send him out of the city, he might die.”“If we leave him here, we might be putting our
Ryan’s POV“Lucia darling, did you bring the wine I asked for? I have been craving it all…why is it you?”I slammed the heavy door of the cell behind me and moved to sit in the only chair in the room. Before I dropped down, Jorgsten snapped at me.“Don’t. You will ruin her scent.”I paused and then looked up at him. Lucia would probably not appreciate it if I went behind her glass just to beat him up.“She is not yours,” I said, trying to get it into his thick skull. Before he could form a response, I sat down in the chair, crossing one leg over the other.Jorgsten’s face darkened, the air trembling at his anger. “I told you not to sit in that chair.”“Jorgsten, you know better than to be attached to a human.”My words made him freeze and then, he looked down at his chains. “And what is your point?”“Lucia does not reciprocate your feelings—”“I do not love her,” he replied instantly. Certain.“Projecting your romantic feelings for someone else on her is not that much different.” I le
Lucia's POVMy back slammed hard against the ground, knocking the air out of me.I hissed, forcing my body into a sitting position.Kathy clutched her arm, forcing her feet in my direction. A long scar ran down her face, refusing to heal from the impact of the bomb.“Kill her,” Kathy hissed, her ey
Lucia’s POV“I thought I was going to die,” Daniel wailed into my shoulder.I rolled my eyes, patting his shoulder. “There. There. It’s alright.”Peter looked at me through the rearview mirror again. “Is there a problem?” I asked him.“You seem different, Lucia.”If Peter had not noticed, I might h
Lucia’s POVThe cup fell from my hand and shattered on the ground. At the sound, Reese and Kathy jumped apart, still breathless from their kiss.“What the hell, Reese?!” I screamed, storming into the room.“Lucia, hold on,” he said, buckling his trousers. “I can explain–”“Explain what?! I just saw
Lucia’s POVI woke up spluttering as water was poured on my face.Sitting up, I stared into a pair of unfamiliar forest green eyes. “Who the fuck are you?” I snapped. His face twisted in disgust. “The proper thing to say would be thank you.”I tugged at the ropes around my torso. “Kidnappers these
