로그인Lucia's POV
My back slammed hard against the ground, knocking the air out of me. I hissed, forcing my body into a sitting position. Kathy clutched her arm, forcing her feet in my direction. A long scar ran down her face, refusing to heal from the impact of the bomb. “Kill her,” Kathy hissed, her eyes glaring daggers at me. “Are you sure that is a bright idea? I mean, you Alpha just proposed marriage to me.” She faltered for a moment and then, her eyes hardened. “Tie her up.” The wolves who had not been knocked unconscious by my smoke bombs or bullets tied me up with a thick rope. One of them sneered at me as he forced a ball of clothing into my mouth. Kathy stomped on my palm with the heel of her boot. “Rest assured. I will enjoy killing you.” My eyes darted around me, trying to find a way out. South City was still far away and I had expressly warned my people never to come into these forests. My only hope was him. I looked in the direction of his house. Was there any way I could alert him? “What are you looking at?” Kathy asked, turning in the direction of my gaze. As she was distracted, I spat our my gag and jumped forward, biting into the bullet wound on her calf. She screamed, trying to shove me off but I did not let go until I had taken a chunk out of her leg. Her other leg kicked my ribs, tossing me away from her. Even as I wheezed, I had a smile on my face. I was not dying here today. Leaves crunched under his boots as he walked past me. “If I had known that you were so desperate for death, I would have left you to your fate with rhe Alpha.” I wiped the blood dripping down the side of my mouth. “You're late.” “Sorry. I had to pack up a few things.” He toased the two reloads of my bullets that I thought that I had lost to me. “Thanks,” I said and reloaded my gun. “Who the hell are you?” Her eyes were narrowed, her posture guarded. “Not information I should be telling someone who is about to die,” he said, raising his bow to her. Suddenly, there was a loud thud in the distance. Our heads all snapped up. “Shit,” he swore, picking me up and starting to run. “What's wrong?” “That was their Alpha,” he explained as he ran. “If he catches us, we are done for.” “South City!” I exclaimed when the city came into view. He did not slow down, curving through our streets until we crossed through the first stronghold. My eyes widened as we came to a stop. “How do you know the roads so well?” “Instinct,” he said. “What kind of instinct–” “Lucia, will you keep questioning me or will you let me take you to the hospital?” Headlights flashed once, a car driving to us at full speed. “Lucia!” Peter yelled, jumping out of the car before it was fully parked. Two cars flanked us on either side, my men getting down and raising their guns. “Who are you?” Peter snapped. I raised my hands in front of me. “No. He saved me…wait a minute, what's your name?” He rolled his eyes, handing me over to Peter. “I have to go.” “My offer still stands,” I said, stopping him in his tracks. “Join me.” His hand clenched around his bow. “I will not be your subordinate.” “I know your strengths well enough not to demand such.” The silence stretched as I waited for his answer. “Ryan,” he said and walked back to me. “You keep your end of the bargain. The moment you breathe anything close to an alliance with those beasts, I will kill you and leave.” Half of my bodyguard cocked their guns. I raised my hand to stop them. “That's acceptable. But you also cannot wake up and decide that you are done with our arrangement and leave.” “Sure thing.” Ryan reached into his bag and pulled out another ball of dirt, forcing it between my lips. “If you die, our arrangement is off.” I chewed, watching him walk to the car. As Ryan opened the car door, his body jerked. In a swift motion, he pulled out two of his arrows and shot into the distance. There was a muffled huff and then a third. “Do you have fuel or kerosene?” Ryan asked, already walking in the direction of his prey. I nodded at my men to listen to him. “Why?” Ryan dragged back a large wolf with the help of two other men. “The tracker wolves have GPS chips embedded in their bodies so they are tracked in real time. I find that fire helps the most in melting the chips.” We stood to the side, watching smoke waft up to the night sky from the burning body. “You should also work on changing the entrance to the city,” Ryan said, scanning the terrain. I would give anything to know what was going through his mind. “Lucia,” Peter called. I hummed. “Where did you find that man?” Something indecipherable was swirling in Peter's eyes. “Do you know him?” I asked. Ryan turned as if he could hear us talking about him. “You should get her to the hospital.” Peter nodded at him before lowering his voice. “I don't think that man is human.”Lucia’s POVIt was a strange feeling to want to be back in Northernfang. Not because of some misplaced nostalgia but because of their expansive library of information. It would have been easier to trace exactly how wyverns were created if I had access to compendiums of other species.Daniel and I were walking around the city, both of us in our own minds while enjoying each other’s presences.Jodie followed behind us but on one of the wyverns. Fayern had still not broken the mate bond between himself and Jodie but he had somehow gotten comfortable with the idea of sharing her with Daniel.Last I checked, all species that had mates did not share theirs. Was this something that was unique to just wyverns or perhaps just Fayern or could it give us a clue to the bigger picture of whatever species they could have descended from.“Looking at him from under here, he kind of looks like a dragon,” Daniel muttered. My head snapped up, eyes narrowing. “Makes sense.”Except that dragons were not r
Lucia' POVJorgsten laid back on the floor, staring at the ceiling. “So what? Are we going to burst into Northernfang to steal a Duchess back?”“That doesn't make sense,” Daniel replied. “They probably keep her somewhere out of reach. We would need to be in Northernfang to know where they would hide her.”My legs were crossed, mapping the entire Northernfang in my head. I did not have much freedom in a sense but Reese never restricted my movements. I could not think of anywhere in the pack that I had never been,Even in the dungeons.Reese let me go down to the dungeons myself to get the samples I needed for my experiments. He could not even be bothered to clean up the bodies before I took them.I had been to all of the secret places in Northernfang. There was no way they could be hiding a whole Duchess with experiment labs and I would not have found out by now.“She is not in Northernfang,” I said, certain.Reese was a very paranoid man, guarding his pack like he expected enemies to
Lucia’s POVRyan was glued to the wall, watching me like I was a criminal. My smile remained on my face as I took pleasure in torturing him by displaying the different pictures I took off my microscope slides through my projector. His gaze would slide from the projected image to my face and his grimace would get deeper.“What is it?” I asked when I finally introduced Jorgsten’s blood to the flesh samples.Ryan opened his mouth and then decided against speaking, settling on shaking his head.I turned towards him fully. “What is the—”The hairs on the back of my neck straightened. It was by pure instinct that I darted out of the way before the explosion triggered, instinctively curling to protect my head. The explosion was loud enough to rattle the chairs and tables in my lab.A few seconds passed before I looked up.Ryan stood at the other end of the room, staring down at something. “Does this happen often?”“What?” I asked, holding onto the wall to get to my feet.It took a while for
Lucia’s POVAs I walked into the lab, Mara greeted me cheerily. “Good morning…”Then, she trailed off when Ryan stepped in behind me. Her gaze scanned my body and then moved to Ryan.My hand wrapped around the back of her neck and turned her around. “Just what are you thinking?”Mara kept glancing back at him as he followed us. “I don't know. I just kept thinking about it. Nothing happened?”I noticed the exact moment Ryan decided to listen in on our conversation. He slowed down for a moment as if deciding if he should eavesdrop and then returned to his regular speed.“Nothing,” I hissed, still not sure how far he could hear. Perhaps I should test it out one day.Without his knowledge, of course.I thrust my bag at her, pushing her towards the common room. “Mara, go!”Her brows were still scrunched. Then, her eyes lit up and she started to scurry away.I was not sure what she was thinking but as long as Ryan did not find out what was going on in her head or about our conversation abou
Lucia's POV“Get him out of this city already,” Peter hissed low as we stared across from Jorgsten.Jorgsten had already dropped the act, shaking off the chains like they were plastic toys. Right now, he was whining for me to give him food to eat.I looked at Ryan, exhaustion evident in my voice. “Can you get him to shut up? I need to think.”Ryan rushed to open the glass door like he had been waiting for the opportunity for ages. Jorgsten scrambled to his feet and stepped backwards. “Hey, Lucia. Can you get this mad man away from—”“Clench your jaw,” Ryan said, cracking his knuckles. “I would not want you to accidentally bite your tongue and die.”Peter blocked my view of them with his body, steering me out of the cell. “Why don't we leave them to it and talk outside?”The last thing I heard before Peter closed the door was a terrifying shriek.“So?”I pinched the bridge of my nose. “Peter, if we send him out of the city, he might die.”“If we leave him here, we might be putting our
Ryan’s POV“Lucia darling, did you bring the wine I asked for? I have been craving it all…why is it you?”I slammed the heavy door of the cell behind me and moved to sit in the only chair in the room. Before I dropped down, Jorgsten snapped at me.“Don’t. You will ruin her scent.”I paused and then looked up at him. Lucia would probably not appreciate it if I went behind her glass just to beat him up.“She is not yours,” I said, trying to get it into his thick skull. Before he could form a response, I sat down in the chair, crossing one leg over the other.Jorgsten’s face darkened, the air trembling at his anger. “I told you not to sit in that chair.”“Jorgsten, you know better than to be attached to a human.”My words made him freeze and then, he looked down at his chains. “And what is your point?”“Lucia does not reciprocate your feelings—”“I do not love her,” he replied instantly. Certain.“Projecting your romantic feelings for someone else on her is not that much different.” I le
Lucia’s POVThe cup fell from my hand and shattered on the ground. At the sound, Reese and Kathy jumped apart, still breathless from their kiss.“What the hell, Reese?!” I screamed, storming into the room.“Lucia, hold on,” he said, buckling his trousers. “I can explain–”“Explain what?! I just saw
Ryan’s POV“Are you sure you still want to have the training this morning?” Daniel asked me before I could leave the house. Was it an Everon trait to worry about people who did not need to be worried about?“Get in line,” I said to him. Daniel sighed, going out ahead of me.The moment the men saw h
Lucia’s POVI woke up spluttering as water was poured on my face.Sitting up, I stared into a pair of unfamiliar forest green eyes. “Who the fuck are you?” I snapped. His face twisted in disgust. “The proper thing to say would be thank you.”I tugged at the ropes around my torso. “Kidnappers these
Lucia’s POV“I thought I was going to die,” Daniel wailed into my shoulder.I rolled my eyes, patting his shoulder. “There. There. It’s alright.”Peter looked at me through the rearview mirror again. “Is there a problem?” I asked him.“You seem different, Lucia.”If Peter had not noticed, I might h
