10 | Running Away

Elena POV

I try to yell as I see him lunge, but he covers my mouth with his hand. I bite down hard and flinch when the coppery taste of blood coats my tongue.

He grunts in pain, "You bitch!" he screams.

I continue to kick and fight hoping someone will hear me but his fist connects with my face and my vision goes a little fuzzy. He hits me two more times, effectively silencing me. I'm trying not to let the darkness pull me under. Trying not to slip from consciousness or stop fighting this monster off of me.

As I feel his hand start sliding up the slit in my skirt, bile rises in the back of my throat and I can't stop the terror from sliding over my skin. I hear a rip as his hands continue to move up my dress and he starts biting and sucking on my neck, leaving marks. The length of his desire pressing into my thigh. I feel a rough tug on my hips and hear another rip when the realization dawns on me that he just ripped my underwear off, causing tears to spring to my eyes.

I have never felt more helpless in my life. Helpless and scared and alone. I didn't think there would come a day when I would rather be locked in my dad's basement but I'd give anything to be there right now. My skin starts to tingle as I  slip further down into darkness. I call out for Cleo but I can't reach her or hear her where I am.

"I like it when you fight, can you feel how hard it makes me," he whispers in my ear as he grinds himself harder into me. My head is swimming and his face is fading from view. As everything starts to disappear, I hear the breaking of bone before everything goes black.

I get glimpses of images that pass me by at high speed, everything blurring together. I'm not human, or wolf, I'm just a jumble of sensations.

The smell of the earth under my paws, the filter of sunlight through the trees, the sound of animals scurrying about the forest floor, and the smell of blood in my nose. I feel wild and untamed.

I run and run for what feels like days until all I can sense is my heart beating in my chest, drowning out everything else. It's peaceful. It's freedom.

I run until I can't run anymore and when I collapse on my back the moon is shining through the trees illuminating the night. My fur starts to melt away back into skin and I can barely keep my eyes open.

The smell of leather, fresh ground coffee, and a hint of cedar hits my nose and wraps around me like a warm embrace, lulling me to sleep. It smells like crisp autumn air and I relax feeling safe for this first time.

I feel myself being lifted off the ground as everything fades to black again.
