Chapter 22

By the time we returned to Verso with our children in tow, Abigail was waiting for us. She admitted to pouting about being left behind for a moment, but she understood the urgency in Gwendoline and Geo reaching me, as well as the fact that Gwendoline needed to be sure she didn’t use too much energy teleporting extra bodies.  She needed to be sharp and quick when they caught up with me.

I felt a little guilty eavesdropping on Abigail and Luthias as they stood in the corner, but not so guilty as to stop.  I smiled to myself when he told Abigail I called him an ‘oaf’.  He praised her for her courage in going into the hut alone with me and speculated that she must truly care for me to take such a risk or offer to perform a task that he knew she resented being asked to do by Charles for so long.
