HE WENT back to the carriage, where his servants were waiting. The worries in their eyes faded as they saw him approaching the seat. The commoners also calmed down, with a few looking his way. He didn’t sit right away and walked toward the woman instead. The woman looked at him with fear in her eyes. He noticed the woman was sweating a lot. It was like she had run a mile. Even though the weather was hot, she would not be sweating like that unless she did some running.

“I didn’t see your companion when he climbed up the roof,” he lied to the woman to see how she would react. “He probably jumped to the ground or in a worst-case he fell down.”

She had no reaction to what he had said and stared blankly outside.

“What happened to him?” the woman asked him.

“I don’t know. But I think you have an idea. You don’t look surprised,” he said to the woman. His servants stood up from their seats and listened to their conversation.
