Chapter 10- Arguing Parents

last update Zuletzt aktualisiert: 20.02.2026 21:02:04

“I will go get the spare key. I wonder since when we began locking doors in this house…” she muttered, cursing under her breath.

Hearing her footsteps retreat, Rory released a sigh he didn’t know he was holding in. Today was a ridiculous mess, and all Rory wanted to do at the moment was to be in his loving father’s arms.

“Daddy, you have to leave before my mother gets back,” Rory said, trying to push his father off him, as he had a sense of urgency rushing in his head. But instead, Nicholas turned his face to him and kissed him hard on his lips.

Getting flustered, Rory opened his mouth and let his father’s tongue slip into it, tangling it and slurping on each other’s spit. Just as he was about to delve deeply into it, he heard his mother’s footsteps.

“I couldn’t find the spare key,” Heidi informed as she rattled the door handle, and she glared hard at it like it was the key to opening the door. Her rage and annoyance towards her son’s sudden rebellion grew as seconds passed, and it still wasn’t opened to her.

“If you don’t open this right now, I will go get your father.” Her brows furrowed as she tilted her head to the side. “I wonder where he went.”

Angrily pulling at her hair, messing up the perfectly combed and styled hair, she groaned and kicked at the door. “Being the only woman surrounded by idiot men is frustrating. OPEN THIS DAMN DOOR THIS MINUTE, IF YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOOD FOR YOU!!! ”

Fear and worry washed through Rory’s body. His mother was the embodiment of prime and proper. She would never verbally curse or swear at someone, but now, looking at the situation, he turned to his father, his eyes filled with worry and fear.

“Dad…” He muttered, his voice filled with horror. Feeling his father’s weight pressing down on him, his large hand wrapped around Rory’s waist, his fingers still moving around beneath the sheets.

Rory’s head spun as his body reacted to the sense of getting caught by his mother or the reaction she would give to them.

Would she be disgusted?

Would she be so angry and divorce Daddy?

Oh, how he prayed for the latter to happen just so he could have Nicholas to himself.

His body was still thrumming from the kiss, but he maintained his sight of his father, his eyes wide with panic, his breath coming in short, ragged gasps.

Nicholas leaned in, his eyes burning with possession and desire as he mouthed the word, “Don’t be afraid.”

Pointing to the door, he made a hushed sign with his lips. Then, he spoke towards the door. His voice was smooth and awfully restrained, which was a contrast to how he felt at the moment.

“Heidi, you are quite noisy.”

The rattling and knocking stopped instantly, as silence filled the air for a little while longer.

“…Nicholas? Darling?” Heidi’s voice shifted, the sharp hint of suspicion turning to confusion.

“What are you doing in there?”

Muttering underneath his breath, he reluctantly pulled off from Rory, making the kid let out a disappointed sigh as he watched him walk towards the door.

Thank goodness for the black jeans he was wearing; otherwise, it would have been impossible to explain anything to a hysteric Heidi.

Turning back, he motioned for Rory to cover himself with the blanket. He didn’t turn around until he had done so. Letting out a sigh, he swung the door open and stared down at Heidi, who looked shocked and baffled as to why he was here in the first place.

His head was pressed to the wall, and his large frame covered the door space, which was slightly open.

This caused Heidi not to see into the room.

“What are you doing in here?” Heidi queried again, her arms crossed as she gave him a pointed look.

Nicholas arched his brows as she had just asked the dumbest question he had ever heard before.

“I can’t be in my son’s room under my roof?” He asked, his voice unreasonably calm and steady.

“I never said so. I was just surprised. I had been knocking, and no one bothered to answer me, so I thought you left the house when I didn’t notice.” Staring down at her husband, she crossed her arms, looking like she wanted an explanation.

Rightfully so, she was entitled to it. After all, she wasn’t wrong with her statements. She had been knocking and calling out to him, but neither responded.

“Well?”

“Well, what?”

She let out a light gasp. “What do you mean, ‘what’? I asked you a question, and you didn’t reply to me. And also—” she began again as she tried to maneuver around him to get to her son, but Nicholas didn’t move an inch.

“Excuse me, I would like to get to my son!!!” She demanded, glaring hard at him.

“No.”

“No?”

“I didn’t stutter, did I?”

To say Heidi was stunned would be an understatement. She stared at the man she married, wondering if something had happened to him. Perhaps aliens had taken over his body and left her with a brainless copy.

“That is my son.”

“And he is also mine.”

She let out a scoff and rolled her eyes. “Taking up the parental role when you never did before?”

Now that one hurt. That genuinely shot Nicholas in his heart.

True, he didn’t care for Rory too much back when he first came around. He was a shy kid who excelled in academics more than his son. So he felt all he needed was material support, and he had so much of it to spare.

He was better than even his own kid in the business aspect. And when Rory had told him he was going to the university to study business, he was exceptionally thrilled.

And that had given Nicholas an idea, or better yet, a reason to bond with Rory.

And bond they did.

Or they did more than bonding.

“Regardless, he is my son—”

“STEP!!!! SON!!!”

Nicholas pressed his lips into a thin line as he heavily glared at Heidi. Second time.

That was the second time she had interrupted him. He was not amused.

“I will not let you enter the room.”

“Huh? What are you saying? It is MY son’s room.”

“And it is a room in MY house, under MY roof. Under a property I own. So if you are done identifying possessions and belongings, leave.”

Her eyes turned to slits, and she stared daggers at him.

“Why are you protecting? You have been on his side ever since he came back from school.”

“Perhaps, it is not about sides, but because you seem to hate the very child you BIRTHED!!!!” Nicholas yelled. His blue eyes were blazing with rage, and his veins were straining along the lines of his neck. To say he was livid would be an understatement.

Heidi’s eyes widened at his words before they dilated. She immediately turned into her prim and proper lady.

“Well then, let your ‘precious’ son know that his engagement to Christy Hewitt has been arranged, and he should get ready to meet her. And I would not take any form of excuses.”

Now that the conversation was done, Christy was ready to head back home. She had achieved her plan and needed to leave for much more important things. There was no way in hell she would go back into the house and join her parents. They would definitely flaunt her around like some pre-made, pre-molded merchandise. She would rather head home and edit some videos or pictures. She didn’t take any during the party; she didn’t even bother to announce where she was going to her fans or do a get ready with me video. It was all in her plan. She wanted to keep Rory a secret for as long as she possibly could. And him not even having a social media account, not even a social media presence, she was sure Rory was her diamond in the rough. And she wanted to keep her ‘diamond’ deep in the dirt, because if she was thinking right on her revenge, she was sure Rory would see the dark side of her that the internet has never and will never see in their life.Right now, on her to-do list, she has to edit s

Rory went to her back and gave a slight push. She held herself with her umbrella as she let herself feel the wind hit against her skin. They were like this for a few minutes. The music from the party was long lost due to their distance from the building.“As I was saying,”Rory slowed his push to listen to her.“I don’t want to marry. It should be a no-brainer, actually. Marrying a guy I never knew and even just knowing about him the day before?”She explained, and truly, she was making sense with what she was saying. The mere fact that they knew about each other just the day before was bizarre to think about.“And I am guessing you feel the same way.”“Yes. I also do not wish to marry you.”Christine hummed as she eyed her a bit more. “May I ask why?”“Why? Did I hurt your feelings?”She snorted and let out a light scoff. “As if. I have millions of people fawning over me; I doubt I care for another.”“Oh, really?” He asked, amused by her words."Yeah. Honestly, I’m after another thin

Isabella watched with twinkling eyes while Heidi looked at her with confusion. “Why did you do that? You should not have said anything and just let it slide.”Isa humphs like a little kid, looking away from the men to Heidi. “What? I told him he should keep his distaste for Rory at home. It didn’t matter if he was his blood or not, but he didn’t listen.”“And you chose this approach? Aren’t you worried about the outcome?”Heidi was familiar with men and their temper. She was grateful Nicholas was more on the restrained and nonchalant side, but even she didn’t dare to push his buttons too much.“Scared of what? He is someone I raised from the ground up; I can easily ruin him just as easily as pulling the rug from beneath his legs. And he would be like the tale.”“The tale?”“Yes, one where the man falls from grace to grass…” She grinned maliciously. She was a logical woman. She never loved Callum, and whether he knew it or not, it didn’t matter to her. Back in the day, Callum was the o

  • Knots of Kinship   Chapter 26—Conversation

Air left Rory’s lungs as he looked behind him, matching towards the balcony door; he peeked out to it, his red hair tussling as he looked left and right before turning back to Christy.“Why would you say such a thing?!” He asked in a loud whisper. Shrugging her shoulders, she dropped the two champagne flutes she was holding on the rail.Rory eyed her for a bit before letting go of a sigh and walking back to her.“Champagne?”He just didn’t understand her. She was all over the place at this point, and it was really confusing and a bit frustrating. But she was offering a drink; who was he to resist it?“Thanks,” he mumbled. They stayed like that, just staring at the tree in front of them like they had some evil agenda against it or something.“This is some fine wine.”“Can we talk about what you literally just said minutes ago?” Rory ducked his head down, closer to her ears. She shivered as his breath tickled her neck. “You know about not wanting to marry me.”She also leaned closer to

Rory understood riches; after all, he was from a rich family. But it seemed like his father didn’t know how to use his ‘riches,’ as Rory couldn’t comprehend why or how you would have a ballroom in your house.Renting an event hall would be better than actively owning a ballroom in your house. But it wasn’t as though he was related to these people or anything, so it really wasn’t his business how and what they sent their money on.But…still…His eyes trailed through the high ceilings that had chandelier lights hanging from them, gold and silver lights all mixed and shining. The drive pulled to a stop. Alden’s estate loomed before them. The build was grand and luxurious. You could tell a lot more money was put into this than I thought. It was a luxurious manor of white stones and a sprawling shrub garden.Rory stepped out, head still in phone, scrolling through Harvey and his girlfriend’s Insta Life page. It seemed Harvey lived a different life than the one he showed at home.Balling with friends, partying at home, dates, and birthdays. s. It seemed like it was always fun and exciting for him.“Don’t make me smack that phone off your hands and into the gutter.” He heard his mother’s low, threatening voice from beside him.She felt like the devil standing behind you and threatening your well-being.
