  • Knotting the Hunter   Bonus Chapter 20 – Chosen

ToriFinn’s crying so hard he can’t get a single word out. He’s hiding his face in both hands, and his shoulders are heaving. I’m staring at him in wide-eyed shock, my hand still on my neck.It can’t be a no. When Finn turns me down, he doesn’t cry. He explains carefully, with reasons laid out so it doesn’t hurt my feelings, wearing his most serious face.I put my palm over his heart, the way I do every night for my homework. His wolf’s there, closer to the surface than he’s ever been, pushing up into my hand like he wants his ears scratched.I tug Finn’s wrist down so I can see him. His face is red, blotchy and soaking wet.“Is that a yes?”“Yes.” He nods so hard the whole bed bounces. “Goddess, yes. Sorry. I’m so happy I can’t breathe.”Thank God. For a few seconds there, I was scared to death.“Then why are you crying?”“Because you asked.” He scrubs at his face with the heel of his hand. It doesn’t help at all.“I’ve been working on a speech for years. I was going to ask you to ma

  • Knotting the Hunter   Bonus Chapter 19 – Homework

Finn“There’s no magic anywhere in our house,” Tori tells Lillianna. “I checked every single room, morning and night, like you said. The doors, the locks, the toaster. Nothing.”“And?”“All of it’s in Finn.”Lillianna turns and looks at me.Tori’s not wrong. For a few weeks now, she’s been hunting for my wolf all over the house. She’s found him at the coffee maker, in the shower, halfway through a bowl of Froot Loops, and once while I was on the toilet, which I’ve asked her very nicely never to do again. She does it in bed every night too, and I’ve got no complaints about that one. This morning’s homework turned into her on top of me on the kitchen floor, and we got here late.Nobody’s ever studied me this hard before. It turns out I love it.“Describe him,” Lillianna says.Tori frowns while she hunts for the words. She doesn’t usually have to.“Warm,” she says. “Alive. It’s like there’s something lying right under his skin with him. It isn’t him, but it isn’t separate from him either

Finn heard that whole call. He got in the truck anyway.I haven’t slept since the night before my graduation. I was planning to spend this morning in Finn’s bed, which is my bed now too, with him on top of me until neither of us could walk. Instead, I’m in a witch’s kitchen.I always count the ways out of a room. Two doors, three windows, and a goat’s face squashed against one of them. The witch is half my brother’s size, and she has a stare I wouldn’

Finn“Honey, you’re making the whole row shake.” Kelly puts her hand on my knee.“Sorry.”It starts bouncing again the second she lets go.I’ve been in this seat since the moment they unlocked the doors, because I promised Tori I’d be in the front row, and I wasn’t about to lose it to somebody’s grandpa. The last time I watched her graduate, I was hiding behind a maple tree across the street from a building full of hunters. This time I’m up front where she can see me.They’ve been reading names for an hour. Whenever one starts with a T, I suck in a breath, and my wolf says, ‘Not her,’ with genuine disappointment. He’s right. It’s a Tyler, then a couple of Taylors and a Trevor. This school has way too many T names, and I’ve nearly stood up for every one of them.Noah’s got his arms crossed and his scary face on, which means he’s battling his emotions. He lets Dax keep a hand on his thigh the entire time, which says everything about how affected he is.Then the guy at the microphone rea

  • Knotting the Hunter   Bonus Chapter 16 – Plus One

ToriThe second Finn follows me into the pizza place, every guy at our table sits up a little straighter. They’ve all asked me out, and he’s the reason they got a no. He’s waving at them with both hands. It’s his first night in Ann Arbor, and I’ve been dreading this part all week. If they’re jerks to him, I’ll pick him, obviously, and then I’ll be eating lunch alone until graduation.“Holy shit,” Brody says. “You’re him.”“I am!” Finn goes around the table, shaking hands with everyone and memorizing their names. “I’m Finn. Thanks for looking out for her down here.”“Dude, she looks out for us,” Brody says. “A guy grabbed Kenzie’s purse outside the library in October, and Tori chased him down in flip-flops.”“I know! She sent me a selfie. She was sitting on him. It’s my lock screen.”I haven’t had him to myself since the bus in Tamarack, and now I’m sharing him with a whole table of guys I turned down. He wanted to meet them, and I’m being very mature about it.Kenzie’s been quiet sinc

  • Knotting the Hunter   Bonus Chapter 15 – Muted

ToriNoah hugs me for about two seconds before he remembers he has a nose.Four months, and I’ve missed him like crazy. For one perfect second there, with his arms around me, I had my big brother back. Now he’s holding me out at arm’s length by the shoulders, staring over my head at Finn. He’s right behind me, rocking on his heels and grinning at the ceiling.“You let me hug you knowing I’d smell… that,” Noah says, like I tricked him into it.His nose was always going to give us away the second we walked in. I came to the gym anyway. There’s no way Finn’s spending an entire day away from me this holiday.“You hugged me,” I point out. “I just walked through the door.”There’s a tag poking up at his collar, and every seam on his T-shirt is on the outside. Behind the desk, Dax is leaning in the office doorway with his hair in a mess, and the sign in the window still says Closed.I don’t need a werewolf nose to work out what they’ve been up to back there.“Your shirt’s on inside out.”Noa

  • Knotting the Hunter   Chapter 4 – Downwind

DaxFor the last hour I've been telling myself I'm only out here to keep the idiot from getting himself killed. It's a good lie.Responsible.Very Alpha. The kind of thing my father would've said with a straight face right before going off and doing exactly what he wanted.Truth is, I caught his tr

  • Knotting the Hunter   Chapter 3 – Sign

NoahThree miles from where you should be standing. The asshole could have at least given me a direction.Fortunately, I’ve learned to trust my instincts.Hunters don’t have any inherent magic, but our senses are more developed than those of ordinary humans. So here I am.Three miles out from the N

  • Knotting the Hunter   Chapter 2 – Heel

DaxThe wolf wants to turn around. He's wanted to turn around since I cleared the fence, and he isn't being quiet about it, because quiet isn't a thing he owns.He just keeps shoving the same word into the back of my skull like a toddler with a doorbell.Ours.Ours, ours, ours."He's a hunter," I t

  • Knotting the Hunter   Chapter 1 – Sight Picture

NoahThree weeks I've been hunting this wolf, and tonight, finally, he does me the courtesy of holding still long enough to kill.Big of him. He's at the tree line where Northgate's fence gives up and the real woods start, and he's shirtless.Obviously. He almost always is.Cold's got nothing to sa
