"Ma'am wake up" Adonis touched Abigail's cheeks gently, he wiped the tears on her cheek with his hands and turned to look at the men whose bodies lay almost lifeless on the ground.

It will take them a lot of time to recover.

He turned back his attention to his boss's woman, he knew he failed at protecting her and it could cost him his job.

"Fuck!" He clenched his jaw, stifling a string of curse words. Taking a deep breath, he reached out to check for a pulse on her wrist. His fingers pressed lightly against her skin, and he waited for the telltale flutter of her pulse. Luckily, she was still alive and he let out a sigh of relief.

He lay on the ground, panting and trying to catch his breath. Once he felt a little more composed, he got to his feet. With shaking hands, he lifted Abigail into his arms and carried her over to the car.

The vehicle was damaged, but it was still functional. He opened the back door and carefully laid her inside.
