"Dear diary ,the sun was warm today and so was my heart ,I always wanted to see the beach alone without ma and today I get to do it alone ,ever since ma died I feel like I am free " Mira paused a bit she looked up at the clock and then back at her book tears forming in her eyes " I still wish ma was here I miss her too you know ,the way she screams my name out , although she was harsh and clingy  and so fun sometimes...I am also moving to crest aves tomorrow with pa ..."she smiled a bit and looked at the clock again

"PA said it was going to be fun over there..I hope so too" she paused wiped her tears with a pink handkerchief she brought out of her side pocket."I will make sure to update you  bye diary" she dropped her pen and stood up from the rug .

The door opened and Mr Dennis walked in holding a brown envelope .Mr Dennis was Mira's dad ,he has always tried his best to be the best dad to her ever since her mother died from cancer .Things had been going smoothly after her death but he had not been able to give Mira the time she needed ,she needed a mom,a woman figure and some friends.

"Mira darling "he called out dropping his bag and offing his jacket.

"Yes pa "Mira answered from inside.

Within a few minutes Mira was downstairs, her face beamed with smile when she saw her dad ,she ran over to hug him and he smiled at her.

"You know how happy I am seeing you smile "Mr Dennis said stroking Mira's hair and hugging her too

"I missed you dad "Mira said softly

"I miss her too Mira .....look Mira" Mr Dennis pulled her away from him   "Mira" he continued "you know moving to crescent Ave mean well for us both right?" He paused and looked at her as if trying to read her mind

"You are going to love it there my darling I promise" Mr Dennis hugged her tightly and Mira hugged him too,she was happy he was there for her and that made her feel good.

"Now go get ready for dinner pa"Mira said smiling and pulling herself away from her dad "oh you are making dinner Mira?" Mr Dennis said smiling and pointing at Mira

"Yes pa,I decided to make something special for you since it's our last day here in this house "Mira said cheerfully and made her way to the kitchen.

She turned and her eye met with that of her dad ,he looked happy,Mira was going to do everything to make him happy, she was also doing it for herself she couldn't and wouldn't watch her dad look so sad ,so she is trying everything to make them forget about ma.

"It was morning, the sun was up and the rays of the sun reflect on my face ,it felt warm and comfortable, I couldn't open my eyes cause I didn't want to wake up ,but then I remebered I was moving today damn " I stood up almost immediately and rushed to the window ,my pa was already ready and he was about calling my name when I rushed to the restroom and started preparing for the trip.

The shower was warm and I loved it ,while bathing I Wondered what crescent Eve would be like I was happy I was moving at least the beach there was nice so I heard,I was lost in my imagination when I heard a knock on my door

"Baby are you up?"

"In a minute dad"i answered from the bathroom .

In a few minutes I was out ,my hair up in a pony tail,I was on a flora pink dress with spaghetti hand and I was wearing a black flat shoe .

"I am ready pa"I said and went into the car

"Took you long enough damsel"mr Dennis replied smiling before entering the car.

I was starting to miss the little house and my dad noticed

"It will only get better cutie pie " dad assured me .

I smiled and he drove off .

*******

The road was a rough one ,I was happy dad was with me and I never taught I would feel much better after ma's death.

"Mira would you like to grab a bite "dad was cute when he asked me if I was hungry he always tried his best to be the best and I loved that about him .

"Sure pa "I replied smiling .

We stopped by at dodo's eatery and grabbed a peanut butter sandwich each.

After eating dad and I went back to the car and the journey continues.

Soon we were at crescent Ave and goddamn it was so beautiful.

As they drove into Crescent Avenue, Mira's eyes widened with wonder. The city unfolded before her like a canvas of vibrant colors and eclectic charm. The streets were lined with towering palm trees, their leaves swaying gently in the breeze. The buildings were a mix of modern and vintage architecture, with intricate designs and ornate details.

As they cruised down the main street, Mira spotted a quaint little bookstore with a sign that read "Moonlit Pages." The store's windows were filled with stacks of books, and the door was adorned with a beautiful wooden sign that creaked in the wind. Mira felt an instant connection to the place and made a mental note to visit it soon.

The city's soundscape was a symphony of car horns, chatter, and the distant hum of the ocean. Mira's ears perked up as they passed by a street performer who was playing a soulful melody on his guitar. The music seemed to match the rhythm of her heartbeat, and she felt a sense of belonging wash over her.

As they turned onto a side street, Mira caught a glimpse of the ocean. The waves sparkled in the sunlight, and the salty air filled her lungs. She felt a sense of peace wash over her, and her worries about the move began to fade away.

"Wow, Pa, this place is amazing!" Mira exclaimed, her eyes shining with excitement.

Mr. Dennis smiled, happy to see his daughter's enthusiasm. "I told you, kiddo. Crescent Avenue has a special kind of magic. You'll love it here."

As they strolled down the street, Mira's gaze wandered to a group of people chatting outside a café. Her eyes landed on a tall, dark-haired guy around her age, and she felt a sudden jolt of curiosity. He had his back to her, but the way he laughed and tossed his hair caught her attention. Mira's eyes lingered on him, taking in the broad shoulders and casual posture.

Before she could get a good look at his face, he turned and disappeared into the crowd. Mira felt a pang of disappointment, but her heart was still racing from the brief glimpse.

Mr. Dennis, who had been watching her reaction, chuckled and nudged her playfully. "Hey, kiddo, I think someone caught your eye, huh?" he teased, grinning.

Mira's face flushed, and she quickly looked away, trying to play it cool. "What? No, Pa, don't be ridiculous. I was just... um... looking at the architecture," she stammered, trying to deny the obvious.

Mr. Dennis laughed, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Save it, Mira. I've seen that look before. You're a teenager now, and the world is full of interesting things – including cute boys."

Mira rolled her eyes, trying to hide her embarrassment. "Pa, stop it. You're so embarrassing."

Mr. Dennis chuckled and ruffled her hair. "I'm just teasing, sweetie. But I have to say, I'm glad to see you're noticing the world around you. You're growing up, and it's okay to have crushes."

Mira shook her head, laughing despite herself. "You're impossible, Pa."

She knew she lied he was cute .

CHAPTER 69Months had passed. The house had adjusted to Lisa’s absence. Mira’s laughter was lighter again, unshadowed by whispered doubts or strange accidents.Dennis had been firm: Lisa wasn’t coming back until she’d had therapy, until she’d shown real effort, and until Mira and the rest of the family were ready.Katie checked on her daughter regularly, exchanging updates over video calls. Mira visited Lisa once a week, cautiously, seeing her slowly rebuild herself in boarding school. And now, finally, Dennis had said yes.Lisa could come home.HomecomingThe afternoon she returned, Mira waited in the living room, fidgeting. The door creaked, and Lisa stepped in, her suitcase behind her.She looked different. Matured. Softer. More careful in her movements. She didn’t burst in laughing or throw herself onto Mira’s bed. She simply walked in, eyes full of uncertainty.“Mira…” she said softly.Mira ran forward and hugged her tightly. “You’re back.”“I am,” Lisa whispered, holding on. “An

Chapter 68 Max didn’t wait long.He couldn’t.The image of that notebook page was burned into his mind. The neat handwriting. The bullet points. The casual cruelty. He sat on Mira’s bed while she dried her hair from her shower, trying to steady his breathing.“You okay?” she asked, noticing his expression.“No,” he said honestly.Mira frowned. “What happened?”He locked the bedroom door quietly. Not dramatic. Not loud.Just careful.“Mira… I need you to promise me something.”Her stomach tightened. “What?”“Promise me you won’t defend her until you hear everything.”Her face shifted instantly.“Defend who?”He swallowed.“Lisa.”Silence filled the room.Mira let out a small, disbelieving laugh. “Max, if this is about her ignoring you—”“It’s not,” he interrupted. His voice was too serious.Too steady. She stopped smiling.“What are you talking about?”Max pulled out his phone.Opened the picture. And handed it to her.Mira glanced down casually at first. Then she read the title.Thin

Chapter 67 Mira’s arm wasn’t broken.Just badly sprained. The doctor called it “a lucky fall.”Ethan didn’t.He hadn’t let go of her hand the entire hospital visit.Lisa sat quietly in the waiting area, knees pressed together, fingers twisting the edge of her sleeve. She looked shaken. She looked guilty. She looked like someone who had made a mistake. No one suspected more than that. And that was the problem. The Shift No One NamedThe house adjusted again.Careful footsteps on the stairs. Extra pillows on Mira’s bed. Dennis installing anti-slip grips.Katie hovering.Ethan practically living next door.Lisa became helpful.Too helpful. She brought Mira water. Carried her sketchbook downstairs. Offered to help her shower.“I feel bad,” she kept saying. “I should’ve been more careful.”Mira hugged her once. “It wasn’t your fault.”Lisa nodded. And smiled. The First Small ThingIt started subtle.Mira’s phone disappeared for two hours. They tore the house apart looking for it.Lisa fou

Chapter 66 Something was off.Mira noticed it first in the quiet.Lisa wasn’t loud anymore. She wasn’t blasting music. She wasn’t bouncing into rooms unannounced. She wasn’t flopping dramatically onto beds. She was… watching.Watching Ethan. Watching Mira. Watching the space between them. And smiling just a little too late when someone said her name.********It happened on a warm Thursday evening. The sky was turning orange, the air thick and slow, and Lisa was sitting alone in the backyard sketching half-hearted lines across her page.Max walked over, unusually serious. No exaggerated swagger. No flirty grin.Just him.“Can we talk?” he asked.Lisa looked up. “About?”“Us.”Her stomach tightened. There was no “us.”Not really.Max sat down across from her, hands clasped together.“I like you,” he said plainly. “Not just beach-day like you. Not just funny, cool sister-friend like you. I really like you.”Lisa stared at him.He looked nervous. That was new.“I know you’ve been going

Chapter 65 The house didn’t relax after that night.Even when everything looked normal again — pancakes, music, backyard jokes — there was a tension sitting quietly in the corners.Dennis had installed a small security camera by the front porch.Katie checked the windows twice before bed.Mira pretended she wasn’t watching Lisa more closely. And Ethan? He came by more often. Not in a dramatic way. Not hovering. Just… present.Lisa noticed.Three Days LaterIt was late afternoon when it happened.Mira and Ethan were walking back from the store, laughing about something ridiculous Max had said earlier, when Mira’s phone buzzed.Lisa.She rarely called.Mira answered immediately. “Hey—”But it wasn’t Lisa speaking. It was a scuffle.Breathing.A sharp, panicked sound. Then a voice.Him.“Stop ignoring me!”Mira’s blood ran cold.“Lisa?!” she shouted into the phone. The line cut.Ethan didn’t ask questions. He was already running. At the Side Street Near the ParkLisa had walked to the s

And Dad.”Lisa grabbed her wrist. “Wait.”Mira turned.“Please… just— let me explain first.”DownstairsKatie and Dennis were still in the living room when the girls came down. The TV was playing some random cooking show, but the warmth in the room shifted the moment they saw the girls’ expressions.“What happened?” Dennis asked, instantly alert.Lisa looked at her mom, and for the first time since she arrived, she didn’t look bubbly. She looked small.“There’s someone from school,” Lisa began. “My ex.”Katie stif
