Gerard opened up so fully, so deeply that it caught Cindy off guard. She would never have thought someone she just met would open up this way and go this deep.
He had told her about his ideals, about living a moneyless life and how he’d sometimes had to sleep in his tent because of his beliefs. That was what floored her the honesty in it, the truthfulness, being so straightforward and not disguising any part of his experience, admitting what he’d been going through, especially the part about having to be without a roof over his head sometimes. Cindy was trying to digest everything. When you take the decision to step away from the system and live moneyless, you have to be ready to walk the talk and accept all the things that might come with that. Life won’t be so kind and easy on you and you need to face reality and accept it. No one will come to you and say here are a hundred bucks, you have to be realistic.Cindy thought to herself It was not just the openness and the story itself, it was also his congruency how deeply he believed in everything he was doing and saying, his determination to continue on his path despite the difficulties and how he stood so strong no matter what. His beliefs and his way of life had so grown into each other, into him, and from that he had the strength to say, ‘so come what may.’ All of this stunned her then and it continues to stun her to this day.Gerard was generally a very open and expressive person. He had nothing to hide. His at peace within and he really love straightforwardness and honesty, so just say it as it is. He had been traveling for two years as a backpacker with the purpose of opening his eyes, mind and heart to the world and his not quite the type to filter his self anyway. If someone asks him what is your truth? He will tell them everything in minutes without worrying about how he’s coming across, he don’t quite give a damn, to be honest. And if he ever make a mistake, he have no qualms about acknowledging it and saying he is sorry. If he mess up, he will embrace the consequences. Fair! For him, living like this makes life easier but it sometimes is not quite so for others as he bring complications to them not everyone is comfortable with the truth. But this is how he live and how he is.He had poured everything out there now. And she was downloading it bit by bit, processing everything little by little. If you play tennis, you know a part of the game is trying to figure out the technique of the person you’re playing with. If you know how he play and you play the same way, you will not lose the ball. So he had thrown the ball at her and she had managed to match his vibration and had given it right back to him Bam!At this point the rest of the group had caught up with them so they turned to say hello to them. they continued walking down the main road doing the usual superficial zig zag conversations with people that you’re just getting to know. She said to him But we always ended up next to each other.Just like two magnets, he replied. And they were always no further than a few meters away from each other at any given point. He always had her in the corner of his eye, keeping an eye on her.Cindy also have an eye, as well as an ear too! And every time they broke away, they would return and their conversation would continue to flow like it had never stoppedIt was in the very deep connection that they had, they were in complete sync with each other. Some time later, their photo walk came to an end. They were now to head to a bar to check out the photo exhibit there and have a drink. Group dispersed. Some went to catch a ride with Evelyn and others had marched on to get there on foot. Suddenly, there was no one else around. It was just the both of them. They continued walking. They reached a place where there was a fountain on one side and lavender bushes on the other. He had just said to her, “I like this click. She replied it was a statement, not a question. He Definitely not. He was not asking her opinion. he just felt it within, this is it, he’s done. It was a moment of brilliant clarity. There was this magnetic click, this instantaneous connection. No matter how much She tried to deny it, it was there! The feeling of recognition She was experiencing was uncanny. Was it all in her head? She was way more reserved than Gerard. so it took her a while there as She allowed herself this acknowledgement. He sensed she needed some sort of confirmation so he just stated it there and then went back to himself. It all came together for her when he said it, she wasn’t imagining it! It was there and it was big and it was something She had never felt before… She was loving it! She can’t remember exactly what She said to him then…He do! She had her hands in her jacket pocket and she looked at him and she whispered, “Yeah, She like it too…” but in a very reserved, German kind of way. But behind those few little words was a mountain of emotion and he definitely sensed all that. When she loosens up, she’s good, but at first she’s always reserved. Unlike him, it was very clear to him This is it and he’s so done! They continued on to the bar. Everyone was already there, they were one of the last ones to arrive. It was quite crowded. Most of the people from the crowd were sitting on one table and the rest of the tables were filled with locals. They both found a table for themselves. He took a chair and she automatically sat next to him without question or without him having to ask her. He was being his self, she was being herself, they had found each other and there, they were sitting next to each other very willingly, naturally. No games were played. Then Evelyn came by and told them that the exhibit was starting so they went to look at the pictures. When they came back they ended up having to blend on a table full of Georgians as there was nowhere else to sit by then. Cindy and Gerard now ended up sitting directly opposite each other. It was a huge table and they had a lot of distance between them. It would be very difficult to hear each other so they were having very nice conversations with the people around them.Georgians are very hospitable so they were offering them wine. Both Cind
Cindy was realizing that her attraction towards him was that everything checked out on paper and was picture-perfect—he was very connected to nature, was a responsible person with a stable job, and just fit all the criteria that someone normal would go for. And She didn’t want to admit to herself that She was not looking for something normal.Cindy has been meditating for years and this was something that She held very dear to her. She had never shared this thing that was such an important part of her life with him and he had never cared enough to inquire about things that made her tick. This was already a red flag on both counts but She had completely ignored it. Meanwhile, on the other hand She just couldn’t help but notice how different things were with Gerard. Although they had only just met, everything about him, their connection, their conversations, that surreal click them both felt, everything was so palpable, so incredibly real. It wasn’t just a casual crossing of paths, the
Gerard was wearing your favorite ‘t-shirt.’ his favorite t-shirt is kind of torn. It’s not appropriate for any occasion but he love it. She don’t think it should even be called a t-shirt because it is not. He guess technically it’s not a t-shirt.She has been raised to be respectful towards others, plus who is She to judge someone else’s appearance? If he’s happy, She is happy, so She didn’t comment. She do have to admit though, She is very happy that t-shirt never got to see another summer this year. They both said hello and headed off to the bazaar to this one shop that he had been going to for a year and a half now. The sweet old ladies there knew him very well. For Cindy It was actually a very awkward situation that followed. He has brought his friends there before but this was a different situation and they felt it. They exchanged the usual Russian-Geogian pleasantries then all attention was focused on her.Lamazia gogo they were saying, beautiful girl. Then they said deda mea
They were now back in the city walking towards the busy Pekini street where he was going to see Cindy off to the bus. Just before she got on the bus he said to her, “Cindy, you have asked me many questions and I have given you everything that you have asked for. Do you still have questions?” She said, “No.” He said, “I believe you now know everything you need to know to establish something with me. I’m just waiting for your message to tell me if you are in with me. If it’s a no, the black-and-white applies for me, I don’t do gray.” The black and white is really how he live his life, so give him white smoke or black smoke—done! It was up to her now. She was fascinated when he asked her that, She loved it! But She was also very confused! The fact that he was only going to be here just one more month and She would need to stay a whole year longer was very present in her mind.It was also confusing to her as She was still officially in a relationship. No matter how increasingly un
Something went bang in her mind. I love you! It was just the second time they hung out but there they were, those words. He rubbed her back and said, “Don’t worry, I’m with you.” Her second sentence after that was, “I’ve never said this to anyone.”She hadn’t.So it was a double boom! It was boom and then boom again! “ You are a 26 year old traveling adventurer, and so he is, and she have never said these words to anyone?” She said, “No.” She never felt that there was a person that made the sentiment arise which might have triggered that expression out of her. There had never been an occasion which She felt the words were well-placed and valid in any context so She had never said them to anyone before.Although, he don’t consider himself, a very romantic kind of guy, he, on the other hand, had said those words before to the women in his life. So, he knew the taste of that. But now when he say, “Cindy, I love you,” the taste is completely different—the taste of saying something
Back to thier date. He was telling Cindy his dream for his future. He had worked for ten years of his life and studied for four of those. But that system was not something that felt right and He had consciously decided to step away from it. He did not want to engage in money. This was not how humans are meant to live. He wanted to go back to living more naturally. He told her that mother nature provides all that they need. Water is free and abundant. He didn’t want electricity. They could have internet, but no wifi. Would she be okay with a cabled connection? She said yes. Fair compromise. But their phones always had to be off or on flight mode. He wanted to live in a cob house just like people had lived for centuries. Thier food would be provided by mother earth: they would eat what they planted and plant what they ate. Would she be okay with all of this? She said that she would. He told her to really consider this seriously because it really wouldn’t work if she asked him to mo
Apart from a small break they had when Gerard was in Armenia for his vipassana, they were now living together and figuring out their lives as ‘us’. It was the first time She was experiencing living with a romantic partner. They did have a few ups and downs. And some huge volcanoes.Once, he actually left!He left! They had a fight and he told her that this was crap, that he couldn’t go on and that he was out! They had barely slept that whole night, it was horrible. They were in the same room but emotionally miles apart. She felt like a stranger to herself. She had no appetite, her mind was dull, everything was blurry. Her whole being felt scattered. In the morning, she opened the door for him in tears and he left! Her landlady was very specific about their shared living areas and how to lock up so She had to see him out the door and off he went with his black-or-white view of life. He’s the kind of person that when he leaves, he leaves and he was sure that he wasn’t going to see h
Gerard changed all of sudden, should she call it “ Husbands regret” What do you mean, you are pregnant. We were going to wait, Cindy, remember? Just tell me you’re joking?” Cindy felt her husband’s furious words strike her like boulders. She stared up into his livid face and didn’t recognize the man standing in front of her. He was shocked, that was all. He was thrown by her news. Her words would sink in soon enough and he’d go back to being the man she adored, the wonderful man to whom she had entrusted her heart. She just needed to give him time to get over his shock. The more she tried to rationalize his inexplicable reaction to what should have been joyous news, the more the insidious little voice in the back of her mind kept telling her that she was lying to herself. This was a side of Gerard that she had never seen before—one that he had never allowed her to see—and she was terrified of what that said about their two-year marriage.“I know that it’s sooner than we’d planned,” sh
