Mag-log inSophia waited for Adria to have gone far before leaving. She knew what he was capable of doing. Unknown to her, Adria didn't leave; he hid on the left side of the building in order to follow her behind and know where she stayed.
Sophia waited for 45 minutes before she left. Adria gradually followed her to her house. All these times, Sophia felt someone was following her, but when she turned, she didn't see anybody.
As soon as they got to the house, Adria was so happy that he could have his son anytime he wanted to.
Sophia quickly took her bath and bathed her son. They had dinner and went to bed. Sophia was not able to sleep. Adria's last words echoed in her mind.
“Watch me. If you don't do the needful, whatever happens to you is your business.”
Sophia's heart was racing. Her son had witnessed everything that happened between her and Adria. Theo is a very smart boy who asks a lot of questions. She was praying he don't ask her any questions regarding to that because she wouldn't know how to present everything to him and he would understand.
Sophia was still reminiscing on all these when Theo jumped out of the bed and sat down on the seat close to the bed. He was panting as though he was coming from a marathon race competition.
She went closer and started stroking his hair. She was still stroking his hair when Theo closed his eyes, then opened them again.
"Mum, I had a dream, and I want to share it with you, "He said, his voice still sounding sleepy. Sophia adjusted herself to hear what his son wants to say.
"My love, please go on. Mummy is all ears". Mummy, I saw a man in my dream who walked up to me and said he was my father. He is very tall and handsome. I told him that I don't have a father, I only have a mother. He held me by the hand and said he was my father and that I should follow him. I was about to follow him when I woke up" Theo explained, with so much clarity.
Sophia was so shocked to hear this from his little son but tried not to show it.
“Really??.. This is huge. Let me rush and bring the food that you didn't finish.
I believe you're hungry. I'll be right back” Sophia said, changing the topic because she wouldn't want that discussion to hold because she was not emotionally ready for it.
As she was about to leave, Theo held her hand and asked
“But mum, where is my father? Do I have a father? Mum, please talk to me,” Theo said, his eyes locked onto mine.
Sophia paused, looked at his little son, and shook her head.
“My son, don't worry, I’ll answer your question, but for now, you need to eat. Let me rush and get something for you to eat alright?” She said, as she rushed to the kitchen
****”
Getting home that night, he paced his penthouse suite.
Five years!!! Five years of living in the dark while his son grew up without him. Sophia's words replayed in his mind: "I did what I had to do to protect him from you".
The accusation was more than he wanted to admit. Was he really that bad? Was he really a villain she painted him to be?. He couldn't bear it as he paced through the room. He poured himself a glass of wine and drank. He made up his mind that Sophia wouldn't dictate his relationship with his son.
It has happened before but not anymore.
Immediately, Adrian picked up his phone and dialed a number. The person answered on the first ring. A woman's voice answered, very professional and sharp.
" Chara, I need you to dig into everything about Sophia Westwood. There's something fishy about her since we divorced. I want you to find out where she’s been, who she's been, and what she is hiding.
I really know other things that she's hiding from me. Start tonight".
"Yes sir," Chara replied without hesitation
Andria ended the call and looked out of the window. He quickly dialed his mother’s number, and she picked up at the first ring.
“Mum, please I would like to see you this morning. It's not something to talk over the phone. And it's a very serious matter.
“Alright, my son. I'll be there. Anything for you and he hung up
The next morning, Adria sat already dressed waiting for his mother. Shortly, she arrived and was looking very anxious.
“Son, you called. Hope all is well?”
Adria nodded and pointed her to sit down.
“Mum, do you know that I have a son?”
His mother flinched.
“How and when?
“I saw Sophia yesterday.” He continued and explained everything to his mother.
His mother was so angry and decided to go with his son to confront Sophia and take his grandson back.
Adria told his mother to hold on till evening as he wanted to attend a brief meeting
the investigation he told Chara to make concer
Later that afternoon, Sophia received an anonymous envelope in the mail. It was unmarked ,but had weight. She carefully opened it, her hands trembling. Inside was a single file labeled:"Westwood - Confidential.
Sophia could not believe her eyes as she flipped through the pages.
They contained detailed information about her life, financial records, and her movement over the five years. But the last page made her heart stop beating.
A grainy photograph of Theo, taken from a distance. The timestamp was from two years ago.
What this means is that somebody has been watching her and his son all these years. Her breath hitched as she realised this. Could this be done by Adrian? No. She remembered she just met Adria after five years. Was this dug out?
As she was still holding the file, a handwritten note fell out of the file. It reads: “You're not the only one with secrets". Sophia's mind raced. This was also a warning and a threat. But where was this coming from?
WHISPERS IN THE DARK.Liam's thumb hovered over the screen for a single second before he pressed the call button. The dial tone rang once, twice, then thrice. Each ring grew longer than the previous, pricking at the calm that Liam was striving to keep.No answer.Liam tried again, pacing across the marble floor of the lobby. His shoes tapped a rhythm. The vending machines hummed in the corner, indifferent to the storm that Liam felt inside. On the attempt, the line clicked open, but only silence answered. Liam heard a breath, a faint rustle of fabric, someone listening but not speaking.Liam whispered harshly, "Who is this?" Glancing over his shoulder out of pure instinct. Liam asked, "What do you know about Adrian?”Then, abruptly, the line went dead.Liam stared at the phone as if it had betrayed him personally. His mind raced through every person who might have Liam's number, every enemy Liam had made and buried and told himself he'd left behind. None of it added up. None of it eve
WHAT THE NIGHT HIDES.The night shattered with a sound like a whip; the screech of tires followed by a sickening thud that swallowed every other noise in the parking lot.Victoria was the first to react, her head snapping toward the source of the sound. Liam followed suit a heartbeat later, his pulse racing in his ears. Through the glass doors, illuminated by the harsh yellow glow of the parking lot lights, a small crowd had already formed, huddled together in a loose, anxious circle."Stay here," Liam instructed, though he wasn't sure why he even bothered — Victoria was already on the move, her heels clicking sharply against the tile, moving faster than someone who claimed to be taking it easy for the night should.Outside, the air was chilly and carried the scent of rain that hadn’t yet fallen. A car had jumped the curb near the entrance ramp a dark sedan, its front bumper crumpled against a concrete planter, one headlight flickering weakly like a dying star. The driver’s door was
THE PRICE OF SILENCE.The hospital corridors were really dark at this time, with only some weak lights on. These lights were like the ones you find in offices. They kept flickering every few seconds. It was like they were tired too. Liam walked into St. Augustine's hospital through the sliding doors. He was walking fast. Quietly, like he was being chased by something that nobody else could see. His eyes were moving around, looking at the desk where people check in, the chairs where people wait for the elevator, and the hallway that goes to the ICU. It was like he was counting how many people were around. He pulled his jacket up higher even though it was not cold outside. This was something he always did because he was used to hiding from cameras and people who might ask him questions. He did not want to be noticed because that could ruin everything he had worked for in secret. The nurse saw him before he saw her. She was standing near the machine that sells snacks with her arms crosse
Sophia stared at the text on her phone until the words became a mess. “Adrian is dead.”She could not believe what she was reading. Her thumb hovered over the screen, refusing to accept what her eyes kept telling her. She read it again and again, hoping it was some mistake. Her knees gave way. She caught herself against the doorframe, the phone slipping from her fingers and falling to the floor. Luckily for her,the phone was not smashed.Adrian was dead, the man who had threatened her and dragged her into corners. The man who had fought with Liam hours ago to defend her was now dead. Sophia did not understand why her chest felt so tight. It's unlike her. She told herself it was a shock, that is all. Not sadness, not for Adrian Calloway. Not after everything he made her go through. It can never be.Then she thought of Theo and something inside her broke. She scrambled to pick up the phone, dialed James's number, her fingers shaking."James," she said. The moment he answered, her voice
As Sophia was still in deep thought on who could be the one shooting in front of her house, her phone rang, she could hear the phone ring but don't know where she kept it .She traced the ringing tone to where the phone is and as she was about answering the call, Liam collected the phone from her and checked the number calling, It was a man's number, no other person than James the investigator. His reaction sends shivers down Sophia's spine.“Hello, Mr James, please stop calling this my sweetheart’s number. She's very very busy. Thank you”. After Liam was done saying this, he hung up.“Your sweetheart?, you're calling my wife your sweetheart in my presence” Adrian rushed to where Liam was standing and gave him a blow on his head. He did it twice and a fight started between both of them.As they were fighting, Sophia's phone fell off Liam’s hand and she rushed and picked it and went to the kitchen to return the call because as Liam mentioned James, she knew it was her investigator .“Mr
“With all due respect, why would you come to my house, talk anyhow then slap my mother?” Little Theo asked, his head up facing Victoria.“My son, come on. This is not your mother. I'm your grandmother. Follow me alright?*Victoria went closer to Theo rubbing his head..Sophia flinched. There was this silence amongst them.“God forbid! You cannot be my grandmother. This is my mother.” He said grabbing Sophia's hand.“And please use the door.” Theo said to Victoria.Adria quickly interrupted him.“Son, you don't talk that way to your grandmother and of course am your father. I came to take you to my place.”Theo looked at Sophia immediately.“I don't have a father. I only have a mother.” He said and walked back to his room.A lot was going through Sophia's mind. He never wanted Theo to know anything about his father and was afraid he'll start asking her questions. As soon as Theo went back to his room, Victoria and Adria waited for some minutes to see if he would come out again but he d
