I'M A MAN IN LOVE

Elena stood there watching until Kyle got into his car and drove away. She placed her hand on her chest, "Oh my God, why was I feeling so flustered just now? Such a man can only be mine in my dreams. He's so handsome."

She continued walking to her friend's house until she finally arrived. Natalie had already begun watching the show without her, so she became upset and slapped her on the head, "What is wrong with you, Natalie? You knew I was coming to watch."

"Come on," Natalie replied, "I had no control over when it started. Besides, just because you're not here doesn't mean I'm not allowed to watch it."

"No, you're not allowed to watch without me," Elena said.

"What's up with the bruise on your arm? Did you fall?" Natalie asked.

Elena smiled, "Well, a very handsome man who looks just like my prince charming almost ran me over. I fell and got this bruise, but then he came out of his car and spoke to me. He gave me some money, but I refused to take it. He told me that his name is Kyle and asked for my name. He was so tall and so handsome. If I get married to such a man, do you know what my life will be like?"

Natalie slapped her on the head as well, "Face reality and stop dreaming. People like that come from the big city. You'll never get married to such a man. Why do you have such big dreams anyway?

I keep telling you to forget about this prince charming dream you like to talk about every time, but you seem to get worse. I'm pretty sure he saw you as a pathetic case, which was why he offered you money."

Elena squinted her eyes before saying, "Yeah, whatever, let's watch."

"Meanwhile, a cousin of mine got the job of serving the guests who would be at the burial of the wealthiest man in this place. I can't remember his name, but you know he has a villa..."

"Oh, are you talking about the late Mr. Bennett?" Elena asked.

"Exactly, that's who I'm talking about," Natalie replied. "I heard about his death too. It's so sad. They say he has rich grandsons, and they're all back, so his burial is going to be a big deal. There'll be a lot of people trooping in, and we'll be asked to come and serve the guests."

Elena was surprised, "Really? We were asked?"

"No, not you. My cousin who has got the job in the company that was hired, silly. So I pleaded with him to help us work there, and he agreed." Natalie replied.

"Are you sure? Is it okay for us to work there? I don't think they'll let people like us go in there." Elena remarked.

"Yes, they will. I begged him. We're going to get the uniform and work with them. His boss only agreed on the condition that we'll be paid half the money they're paying, but that's still a lot of money.

Moreover, a lot of people are coming in from the city, so there'll be tall, sexy, handsome, and rich men and women. We'll get to see all of them and we can admire them and drink in their beauty and elegance."

"What's so good about admiring them?" Elena asked. "I have no interest in admiring anyone except of course it's Kyle. Come to think of it, he might be here for the burial as well. Yeah, it's possible. His car looked really beautiful and luxurious. I bet he's one of the guests at the burial."

"You have a point, but just forget about Kyle. From your description, he seems too good to be true. Who knows? I might meet someone who might not be as good as Kyle but still good enough. We can fall in love and....."

Elena snapped her fingers, "What about your boyfriend?"

"Way to ruin my mood, Elena," Natalie complained. "Stop being such a wet blanket. You know that Peter is just for the time being. He's not really husband material. He's too poor and I need someone who will give me a better life. I want to go to college, so I need one of those men from the big cities..."

"Really? And you say I dream too much? You claim I have big dreams, and yet here you are talking about your own prince charming." Elena reminded her.

Natalie laughed, "I'm not talking about any prince charming, okay?"

Elena scoffed, "So you're going to break your boyfriend's heart?"

"What? What heart are you talking about?" Natalie asked. "Listen, Peter is even aware. I've told him that someday if I meet someone better, I'll walk away from him."

"But it still means you'll be breaking his heart," Elena replied. "We both know that he loves you. You see, this is why I refused to get into a relationship with any boy because once I meet my Prince charming, I do not want anything to stand in the way of my happiness."

Natalie smiled, "But I thought the last time, you said Leo was so dreamy."

"What is wrong with you? You're so evil." Elena complained.

"Now you're pointing your fingers at me, whereas you kept wishing that Leo would ask you out," Natalie replied. "But I don't think you're his type. He doesn't even look at you, and you think someone from the city will."

"Let's just watch the TV," Elena said, trying to put an end to the conversation. "As for the job at the villa, talk to your cousin about it, and when he's sure, I'll tag along. Who knows? I might get to see my prince charming, Kyle, again."

"Yeah, well, whatever, let's just watch."

As he drove off, Kyle smiled and said to his friend, Brookes, "What a nice girl."

Brookes scoffed, "Nice my foot, all these hillbillies will do just about anything to get the attention of a guy once they see him driving a beautiful car."

"What do you mean?" Kyle asked.

"Come on," Brookes replied, "are you blind? I mean, she just ran out of nowhere, and the next thing you knew, she was in front of your car."

"No, it was an accident," Kyle said, "I think if she was the sort of girl you were describing, she would have taken money from me. She didn't want anything. She seemed naive."

"Anyway, whatever, why didn't you come with Sam?" Brookes asked. I thought she would want to be at your grandfather's burial."

"I don't know, to be very honest. Sam hasn't been taking my calls." Kyle replied.

"Why?" Brookes asked.

"I don't know. It's been more than a week now, going on two weeks, and she knows that I lost the second person I love the most in the world. I kept calling her, but she stopped taking my calls for reasons best known to her.

I've sent her multiple texts, but she isn't answering. I know she's fond of doing that. She'll just ghost me for a while, and when I persistently call her, she'll start taking my calls eventually. I don't know why she acts that way."

"It's your fault," Brookes replied.

"How is it my fault?" Kyle asked.

"Yeah, you love her too much. That is why she treats you like trash."

"No, Sam doesn't treat me like trash," Kyle argued.

"Come on, look at you! You're handsome, tall, intelligent, and come from a good family, you have so many good qualities. You are a refined man, Kyle but you let Samantha treat you as though you're a second-class citizen when you're even doing better than her.

Why is she so full of herself? Her family isn't doing well; her dad is poor, to be very precise. So what exactly is she feeling so proud about? You spend everything on her, all your monies go to her expensive bags, shoes, and all that.

I try my best to like her because she's the one you love, but, Kyle, I am your friend, and you're like a brother to me so I will tell you the truth, the way Sam treats you, makes it difficult for me to approve of her."

"Relax," Kyle said. "Yeah, I know Sam has her excesses, but I guess all that adds to why I love her. Yes, she can be overbearing, but I'm willing to tolerate it all. The only problem is this behavior of not taking my calls and avoiding me for reasons best known to her. I don't know why she keeps doing this and....."

"Perhaps she's cheating on you," Brookes cut him off.

"No, Sam isn't like that," Kyle replied.

"Oh please, I can't vouch for a girl who can go two weeks without speaking to the guy she claims to love and it's not like you guys fought or anything."

"Well, when we started dating two years ago, it was strange each time she avoided me for no reason, and I'm yet to get used to it. I don't know if she has mood swings or something. Besides, it's not just me, even her friends complain about it."

"Well, whatever, also don't forget that Samantha loves money, lots of it." Brookes pointed out.

Kyle smiled, "Yes she does and she doesn't hesitate to say it. At the very least, she's open to me about it. Brookes, Samantha loves me, okay."

"Yeah, but I think she loves money more," Brookes replied.

"It's not such a bad thing now, is it? Now that my grandfather is late, he must have left behind a fortune for my stepbrother and me. Urghh, Jordan. Wish I didn't have to deal with him. I hate him," Kyle said.

"Yeah, I know," replied Brookes.

"So," Kyle continued, "the money I'll get from there will be more than enough for me to take care of my life. And I'll make sure Samantha has nothing to lack. Although, I've told her about Jordan and how evil he is. Being my senior and all, I know that he'll try to take a bigger share and I'm so angry about it."

"Well, at least you'll get your own share," said Brookes.

"Yeah, I never got a chance to look at my grandfather's will, and I'm sure Jordan arrived there before me."

"Even if you appeared before him, he's still the senior, and according to your grandfather's will, he comes first," Brookes replied.

"Either way, I'll spend as much money as I can on Samantha because she's the woman I love. For now, I'll just focus on my grandfather's burial. Whatever issues Samantha may have, we'll sort it out. Now, I just need to worry about Jordan."

"Yeah, you should worry about him." Brookes agreed. "The fact that he's more than ten years older than you is a big problem."

"He could be my senior for all I care," Kyle replied. "My father never liked him, even though he was his son. It was for a reason. Nevertheless, I'm not going to try and make things difficult for him. I'm just here for my grandfather's burial, which will take place in two days.

And once everything is done, I'll get my share of his fortune. I don't even want the villa. He can keep it. I'll just leave after everything. I have so many places I want to go to, so many things I want to do with Samantha."

"What about your business in Quebec?" Brookes asked.

"I think people with businesses in Labrador do better," Kyle said.

"I doubt that," Brookes argued.

"Well, it's what I've figured out. Perhaps it's because it's my line of business, and it's not doing so well, so I spend more of my time in Labrador."

"No," Brookes said. "Your business isn't doing so well because you spend all your time with Samantha here in Labrador. I mean, you don't even give it the attention it deserves."

"Yeah, so I'm thinking of selling it off and starting something else. I want to go to New York City and start something big, set up myself, and then get married to Samantha. I want nothing else in this life."

"Yeah, whatever. You really can't make a sentence without putting her name in it," Brookes pointed out.

Kyle laughed. "I can't help it. I'm a man in love."

They finally arrived and drove into the villa. As they came out, Kyle stared at Brookes and said, "Time to smile and act the part."

When they walked into the house, they got to the living room, and both saw Jordan sitting with his legs crossed and two bottles of wine, with two half-empty glasses in front of him.

When Jordan saw Kyle and his friend, he threw his eyes away and pretended as though he did not see them.

Kyle smiled, "Well, no matter what, we are both here, and it's grandfather's burial. I hope we can put our enmity aside and let everything happen as it should."

Jordan stared at him and smiled back, "Honey, my brother is here. Remember I said I will introduce you? Come out and say hi to him."

"Alright baby," a voice replied from inside. As she came out, she placed a kiss on Jordan's cheek.

She turned to stare at Kyle, and he gasped in surprise, "Samantha?"

The phone he held in his hand, including his bags, all fell on the floor while his mouth remained open in surprise.
