FAZER LOGIN“Nothing yet?”Michelle shook her head as she flipped through the papers in front of her.“They’re still checking the old records. Apparently, some of the files were moved years ago.”I nodded, trying to look like that didn’t bother me.“Fine. They just reopened the investigation.”Michelle looked at me over the folder.“Did you think your father already knows?”I stopped sorting the papers.I leaned back in my chair and stared at the ceiling. “Of course he does.”Michelle sighed. “He’s going to be pissed.”“I know.”She studied me for a moment.“Then why are you still doing it?”I looked down at the folder on my desk. There were only a few papers inside. A couple of names. Old addresses. Dates that didn't match. Nothing useful yet.But it was more than I had before.“I’m tired of not knowing where they are.”Michelle didn't answer immediately. The office became quiet except for the soft sound of the air conditioner.“You're scared of him,” she said.I looked at her.“Obviously.”“Th
The elevator had been stuck for several minutes.I checked my phone again. One percent.“Great.”I pressed the power button, but the screen barely lit up before dying completely.I stared at it.“Perfect.”I slipped it back into my clutch.Across from me, Luxxe checked his own phone. He waited for the signal to appear, but nothing changed.“No signal?”He shook his head.I sighed. “Hopefully, the building's system has already detected the problem.”“It should.”He put his phone away.“Someone will come.”I nodded and leaned against the wall. The elevator was strangely quiet.I could hear the soft hum of the emergency lights and the occasional creak of the machinery somewhere above us.I checked my watch. My father was probably already waiting.“This is going to be a disaster.”Luxxe glanced at me.“It's an elevator malfunction.”“You don't know my father.”“No,” he said, almost thoughtfully. “I don't.”I looked at him, wondering what he meant. Before I could ask, the elevator suddenly
I had been trying to forget Luxxe for weeks.Keyword: trying.Because apparently, my brain had a personal vendetta against me.His face would randomly show up in my thoughts at the most ridiculous times. While eating. While working. While brushing my teeth.Once, I actually stared at my ceiling at two in the morning and wondered if he thought I was insane.I covered my face with my pillow.“Why did I kiss him?”No answer.Obviously.Unless my pillow suddenly developed the ability to give relationship advice.Which, honestly, I wouldn't have complained about.I was at the mall that afternoon, doing absolutely nothing important.Just walking around.Browsing through stores.Buying things I didn't need. The usual.I was looking at a display of handbags when my phone rang.I glanced at the screen.Dad.My mood immediately dropped.“Hello?”“Where are you?”“At the mall.”“Come to the office.”I frowned.“Why?”“We have an important meeting.”“Today?”“Now.”I looked down at myself.Sleeve
The cool outside air brushed against my skin as Luxxe carried me away from the noise of the party. The moment we stepped outside, the loud music became nothing more than a distant thump behind us. Everything felt quieter here. The lights around the pool reflected against the dark water, dancing across the surface whenever the wind moved. The air smelled faintly of chlorine and the flowers scattered around the garden. I should have been more aware of my surroundings. I wasn't. All I could focus on was the warmth of Luxxe's arms around me. My head rested against his shoulder as he walked, and every step made me feel lighter and dizzier at the same time. I didn't know if it was the alcohol. Or him. Probably both. He carefully lowered me onto a bench near the pool, one hand remaining behind my back until he was sure I was steady. I blinked up at him. "Are you leaving?" The question came out quieter than I intended. Luxxe looked at me for a moment. "No." His an
“Sh-Shane, are you okay?” I knew that voice. It was Luxxe. I forced my heavy eyelids open, looking up at him as I blinked. “Why are there… two of you?” I slurred, squinting hard to try and make them merge into one. “There’s only one of me.” His brows knitted together in utter confusion. I stared at him, tilting my head so far to the side. The mirage was gone. There really was only one. “Oh.” A goofy, disappointed laugh escaped my lips. “You're completely drunk.” Luxxe sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “Nah,” I waved a dismissive hand, pouting as I looked around. “That’s disappointing. Too bad... Where’d the other handsome guy go?” “What?” Luxxe choked out, his cheeks instantly flushing as his brain stalled. “Nothing. Let me go.” I tried to stand on my own. I was pretty sure I succeeded. At least, that's what I thought. Then the floor moved. I grabbed his sleeve. “Careful.” Luxxe immediately steadied me again. “I’m fine.” “You almost fell.
I hated parties, Argh. Especially the kind where everyone looked like they had been born knowing exactly which fork to use and which smile to wear. Unfortunately, tonight, I had no choice. Father had made that very clear. “Attend the Henderson party.” This was my punishment. Apparently, being forced to spend an entire evening surrounded by people I barely knew was supposed to teach me something. I still hadn't figured out what. The Henderson estate was already glowing when I arrived. The entire place looked less like a house and more like something built specifically to remind ordinary people that they could never afford it. Warm lights lined the driveway. Expensive cars filled the front lawn, while men in black suits and women dressed in gowns walked through the enormous entrance. Music drifted from inside. Not too loud. Just enough to make conversations feel more expensive. I stepped out of the car and immediately regretted coming. I adjusted the sleeve
