The next morning, I sent the document to my lawyer. Kristen was happy—ecstatic even—to finally have the signature of my soon-to-be ex-husband.

“Thank God,” she said.

“Yes. Good riddance to bad rubbish,” I replied, beaming as I sat in her office.

From the look on her face, it was clear she didn’t want to waste any time. She was ready to get the divorce papers finalized by the court so I could finally go my own way.

While we were still talking, Christopher called. He asked where I was, and when I told him everything that had happened, his joy was unmistakable over the phone. He then told me to come over to his house—he said he had a gift for me.

Kristen overheard our conversation and was more than willing to send me off. I took a taxi and safely arrived at Christopher’s house.

As soon as I entered, my eyes fell on his expensive glass table. Children’s clothes and supplements were scattered all over it.

“What’s this?” I asked, picking up one of the supplement bottles and smiling.
