Chapter Two

"What is wrong with you? Are you crazy?" He said, then snatched the broom.

I ran into the room and closed the door. I grabbed my phone to call the police when I heard him say.

"Look, Alexandria, I swear to the moon goddess, I won't harm you. Stop this right now and come here so we can talk."

I could see that he still loves to bark orders at people, but anyway, anything sealed with the moon goddess’s name is binding, so I decided to go meet him and pretend that I believed him, so I could leave tomorrow with my children in peace. I will not let him deceive me twice.

Thankfully, my babies were still sleeping throughout that noise, so I carefully opened the door and closed it back.

Seeing Hayden Walker up close after so long, I still can't get used to how handsome he was.

He rolled his eyes, then looked at his watch before replying.

"I am listening; say what you have to say, then leave and don't come back," I said, giving him a death glare.

"I think I should be the one to get angry; you left me. You faked your death and came to New York to live in this stupid place," he barked.

"Faked my death?" I asked him.

“More like protecting myself from dying at the hands of you and your family. Please leave me alone; I won't come back; I will live my life quietly; I won't bother you."

He held his forehead before looking into my face. "Can we sit?" There seems to be a misunderstanding that we must talk through."

"Will you leave after that?"

"No," he answered and sat down.

"You have five minutes," I said, and I sat down because I wanted to get this over with.

"You have grown; you never spoke to me like that before, but do not forget. I am still an Alpha."

Motherhood made me grow; was at the tip of my tongue; instead, I said, "I did; I know my worth now."

I do not want him and his sick family to know about my children.

"Sure, now to the issue at hand. What do you mean? My house was burned to the ground when I returned to the meeting. I was informed by Ann that you were in the house; your necklace confirmed everything. I mourned you for years. So what are you accusing me of?"

"Sure, And you must have been happy when your stepmother told you that, You left me at home and asked the servants to set the fire that you want me dead to be able to remarry Cecelia, your so-called friend and business partner, so don't come in here and act all innocent."

He looked shocked. "When did I say this?"

"You did not have to; I heard Cecelia telling that to the servants, and while I was escaping from the pack, what were you doing under the mango tree?"

He looked guilty but shook his head. "Look, it is not what it looks like. She was drunk, and I was helping her. She apologized the next morning."

"Spare me the lies. Alpha Hayden, Are you scared that I know your little secret? Don't worry, all I want is to be left alone. Please leave and go enjoy your life with your family."

"If you believe that, then you are stupid. Do you know how long I spent mourning you? Also, should I not be married already, if that is all I want? Look, I will be back tomorrow evening, and you will be coming home with me."

He said, then left without a backward glance.

I watched that arrogant peacock leave my house after announcing that he wanted me to go back to his family house. The worst place I have ever been in my life. His family loved to treat me like dirt because I was an orphan, and he never said a word in my defense.

I decided to get to work because I needed every bit of cash I could get now to aid my escape. And also to see Claire, so I could get her house address in Greenville town because I didn't have much money to pay for food and hotel accommodations until I found some work to do. Both of us worked together at the club; it was not like she needed the money. For her, this is all fun.

She is the only friend I have in New York City; she said she has some buildings in her name in many places, including Greenville, but doesn't use them. From what I have heard from her mouth so far, her relationship with her family is flawed because they didn't want her to be a wedding planner. Aside from that, her family is insanely rich, and she is a heiress.

Before I went to the shower, I decided to put my second phone on and call Claire to pick me up, but she did not pick me up. When I started applying light makeup, my second phone started to ring. I picked it up, and it was Claire.

"What happened to your main phone? And why did you slap the C.E.O. of Walker Corporation? Maggie was practically spitting fire, and the bride kept cursing you after her groom left." She said so, and I looked outside my window and saw her car.

"Long story, mind if I tell you when I come down?"

"No, but come down quickly because Lucas will bite our heads off if we are late."

"Okay," I answered, then quickly finished my makeup, called my neighbor, who usually babysits for me, to come over, and headed downstairs.

When I opened the car door and got in, Claire finally muttered under her breath. She reversed the car, and then we took off.

"So you want to tell me what made you slap the groom?"

I did not know how to explain to her that Hayden was my mate, so I told her what she would understand.

"The groom is my ex-fiancee and the father of my children. Our relationship does not end on good terms."

She chuckled and said, "I don't have to be a prophet to know that because that slap was very powerful. You should see his face when you ran away after slapping him. My god, I have not seen anything so amusing in the twenty-two years of my life.

"Ha ha ha, so funny," I replied. "You always find anything amusing."

She shrugged. "If you lived sixteen years of your life with my parents, then you will find everything amusing because they are so boring and uptight, trust me."

"I will take your word on it. Can I stay at your house in Greenville for some time before I find a job?"

She looked shocked. "Why? All because of your ex? Is he threatening you? Do you want me to involve the police, or do you want to come and stay at my house? It is heavily protected."

All of that was no use to an Alpha like Hayden, but I could not tell her that. I did not want to give my friend nightmares."

"No, he is not, but I think we deserve a little vacation," I answered shakily.

She looked at me for a while then shook her head. "I know you are lying, but if you do not want to talk about it, then it is fine, and yes, you can."

"Thank you so much," I replied, and she smiled.

"Do you want to borrow some money? You can pay me back when you have your first paycheck."

I shook my head and said, "No, you already helped me enough; besides, I have not finished paying off the last one you gave me."

She rolled her eyes and dropped a bundle of money on my leg. "Take the damn money; I am not complaining, and besides, you used the money to send my goddaughter to the hospital, so I don't mind."

"But I do; I don't want to be a burden to you."

She rolled her eyes, turned up the music, and did not give me the chance to argue with her anymore.

We arrived at the bar and changed quickly because the whole place was already starting. At the end of the shift, she dropped me off and gave me the keys to her house.

I bade her goodbye, then went into my house. I checked on my babies and then paid the babysitter before I went to bed.

I woke up the next morning and started removing any trace of us from the house. I am not going to let his little visit make me change my mind. He could send someone to harm me instead of doing it himself. Hayden Walker is and will always be a manipulating bastard. I wasn't going to let him use my head, because if I make a mistake again, then it wouldn't be just me that would be affected by it.

When it was seven, I woke the kids up and showered them. I had to dress Lily, my four-year-old daughter, in her favorite dress so she could hurry up. She was very outspoken, like her father, and wouldn't accept anything forced on her. Eventually, she finished eating, and then I put her and Elijah inside the back of my car.

After packing everything inside the car, it wasn't much because we didn't have so much load. I drove off in my car, hoping that it would not, for any reason, stop us in the middle of nowhere.

"Mommy, can I get more chocolate?" Elijah asked me.

"The one you had is the last one," I answered.

"Can we stop to get it?"

"No, we cannot. Maybe Scrappy will refuse to start, and we will be stuck under the sun like it did last week," Lily answered.

I smiled but did not turn back. "You have had enough chocolate for one day, baby, and I pray the car will not stop under the sun, mini-me."

My daughter started to laugh, but Elijah pouted and concentrated back on the iPad that Claire gave him.

As soon as we were outside town, I decided to stop at the next station to get gas and let the children spread their legs and eat since Hayden couldn't find us now.

I was smiling and singing along with a song on the radio when a car from nowhere passed us and barricaded our way.

"By the moon goddess!" I screamed, then stepped on the brake.

After I checked my children and saw no injuries, I hurried down from the car to talk to whoever tried to kill me and my babies. As I got closer to the car, there was something off about his smell, and when he opened the car and got down, I inhaled more because I wanted to know what I was missing.

The answer clicked immediately. He masked his scent like I did, so that meant that maybe Hayden had sent him, and when I looked at his face, I immediately remembered who he was: one of his men.

I started to run, but he caught me and covered my face with a cloth, and I blacked out.
