“Liar,” was the only thing I managed to say in response to George as he told me that Darius was dead. It just simply wasn’t possible.

George, as if the accusation of him being a liar was a slap to his face, turned around to look at me. I couldn’t tell what look he had on his face as he was standing in the room, facing the darkness with the bit of light behind him blinding my view of his face.

“He can’t die. He can’t be dead. You can’t kill him,” I muttered, more like a prayer than an accusation to him.

“You really think I would lie to you about him being dead? What do I stand to gain from that?” He asked with a scoff in his voice.

“You want to break me. You want me…” I laughed as soon as it hit me. I still felt the mate bond. There was no pain in my chest. I wasn’t hollow. Darius was alive.

“What is it that you find so funny?!” George reached me once again and slapped me across the face once again. This time, it was even more forceful than before. My head turned to the left with so mu

“And how’s that supposed to be any of my business?” I questioned, looking at George with narrowed eyes. He looked as if he hated the fact that he had made the decision on a whim and was now afraid of his daughter’s wrath, but that wasn’t my problem.“What do you mean by that?” He asked as he stepped toward me intently, only stopping when I glared at him in warning to let him know that I could defend myself if he tried anything.“What do I mean?” I scoffed as I stood up and stared at him. “Come with me.”He hesitated as I walked over to the door to talk to him outside, but he followed eventually.“You’re asking me what I mean when I say it’s not my problem, right?” I questioned, crossing my arms as we got to the hallway. “Well, I’ll tell you what it means. I was on my own, George. Barely surviving, but I was on my own still. You came up to me, and I realized just how much you hated your son-in-law.”He looked at me with a confused frown, but I went on.“I made you realize it. It was as

I reached for George and pushed him into the room where Darius was. “Get him out of there.”George looked at me as if I had gone crazy, but he didn’t want to know how crazy I would get if he let Darius stay in there for another minute.“Did you hear what I just said?! Get him out of there!” Aaron’s voice pierced through the air as he started to cry after being woken up by my voice. On hearing Aaron’s voice, Darius perked up and looked out the door as if seeing us for the first time.“Zara?” He hoisted himself up, leaning against the wall to catch a breath. But I knew that each breath he took in that room was more dangerous than the last. I didn’t think he was aware of that. I didn’t even think he was aware of where he was at the moment.“Darius!” I called out, turning to George and glaring at him with a deadly look. “Get him out. Now. Or I’ll turn your daughter against you by telling her what you did and how you got me involved. You’re the only one here, and I can fight my way out of

I took a deep breath as I heard the sickening thud of Tyrell’s body hitting the floor without an anchor. His blood spilled onto the wooden floor as the spear disappeared back into the wind where it had come from.“Goddess,” I said silently as I looked out of the balcony and into the sky as if she would look back down at me and let me know she was watching. “I don’t know what I’m doing.”As I turned around and headed for the room where I had kept Aaron, I found three soldiers running down the hallway.“There she is!” One of them pointed, and all of their hands went down to their weapons. They stopped running, now heading for me carefully. They must have seen what I had done to the two soldiers who were outside.“What are you doing here? How did you get in? And where is Alpha Tyrell?” The one who seemed to be their leader asked. They couldn’t know I was there. I didn’t want any witnesses to this. The plan was for Deirdre to not know that I had done it. If they survived this, they would

I had managed to learn how to use the wind to my advantage so I could lift myself off the ground and float in any direction I wanted. That way, I would be able to see just how many soldiers were guarding Tyrell’s pack from above even before they saw me.“Shh. It’s okay,” I whispered to Aaron when he made a slight sound. It was almost as if he was uncomfortable with being up in the air.I started to wonder if this was all a mistake. Maybe I shouldn’t have carried him out of the pack just yet. Maybe I should have left him there to safely be until I finished my work in Tyrell’s pack and return to get him. When he finally stopped making the sounds and went back to sleep, I continued my journey and made sure I was even more careful this time.I stopped when his pack came into view, my eyes squinting as I got a good count of the soldiers out there. Tyrell wasn’t expecting me, so I knew they wouldn’t let me walk in without informing him first. And if they told him…“No,” I whispered and shoo

“What…” I whispered to myself as I walked to the pack to find the orders empty of soldiers. Granted, Darius and I had gone missing all of a sudden, but that was not enough reason for them to give up on the security of the pack.Unless something had happened.“Aaron.” At the horrible thought of that, I picked up my speed and started to run off into the pack to find my son.Tears were starting to leave my eyes and flow off my face with the wind from how fast I was running. I heaved, trying to get air into my lungs as the tears and the running did nothing to help with my lungs.“Goddess,” I said and stopped running when I got to the house, where almost everyone was gathered with Smith in front of them, his speech interrupted by my sudden presence.“How nice of you to join us,” he said, causing everyone to turn to look at me. There was a look of annoyance on his face, which I wasn’t surprised by, but what got me was the fact that everyone looked annoyed. Not surprised at seeing me or even

Time seemed to pass in a way I couldn’t gauge when I was trapped in a dark room without any form of light. I didn’t know if time was slow or fast. I had been hungry and thirsty for what I believed was hours until the door opened again, and George walked back in.“What do you want?” I asked, trying to hide just how weak my voice sounded from how broken the situation was making me. “And where did you keep Darius?”“That’s not what I’m here to discuss,” he replied with a grim voice that told me he had a mission here that he wanted to fulfill.“Then what are you here to discuss?” I asked, tilting my head and squinting when the light started to get into my eyes as he moved. He stood close to me now, his voice dropping lower as if he didn’t want anyone out of the room to hear him.“I want to know how you plan to get rid of him.”I didn’t have to act confused or ask him what he was talking about. I had made an offer, like I was holding out a piece of meat. And he had bitten into it without t
