Every doubt I had about Deirdre had just been proven by Darius telling me that her pack had witches in them, but I had to be completely sure about it.

“How do you know this?” I asked him.

“It was Tyrell. A group of witches had been attacked and chased out of their coven by rogues. They had nowhere else to go, so they came over to Tyrell’s pack. We all tried to talk him out of it, but he didn’t listen. He said he would take them under his wing as long as they didn’t cause trouble.”

“So, there’s a chance that they’re still here?” I asked him, raising my brows.

“A big chance. If Tyrell wanted them to leave, he would have consulted the rest of us to let us know that. The witches must still be here.”

I stood in place with my eyes wandering as far as they could reach. It was something Gray had instilled in me, and I had been with it ever since. Every place I looked, I would have to find a potential place to hide so that nobody would spot me.

When I was done pointing out all the places in my

EPILOGUE9 MONTHS LATER“Hurry, Darius,” I said as I ran heater-skelter across the field in the pack.“You worry too much, Zara. He’s not even going to notice that anything’s off. He’s just a kid,” Darius laughed as he hung up the last pieces of light decorations over the tables that had been perfectly set.As we stepped back and took a look at what we had made together, I couldn’t stop myself from grinning.“Finally,” Darius commented as he threw an arm around my shoulder just as pack members started to make their way into the field with looks of awe on their faces.“You’ve done well, Alpha Darius and Luna Zara,” they complimented as they walked past and started to sit down, letting the children run around.“Don’t you think it’s time for you to take a shower and prepare for today?” Darius asked me as he steered me toward the exit and walked me to the house.I headed for the bathroom and took a shower, getting out of the bathroom to see Darius holding Aaron and walking back and forth.

“I have called you here this afternoon to give an important announcement,” Deirdre said to the crowd of people who had now gathered in front of her house after we had called off the battle.Darius and I stood side by side a few feet away from her as we watched the disappointed and scared faces of her pack members.“For weeks, we haven’t been on the best terms with Darius and Zara here. Zara killed Tyrell, and that’s something that we all know. But the truth is that she wouldn’t have killed him if we hadn’t sold her out to the humans.”At her honest admission, the people gasped in awe and started to mutter amongst themselves.“Yes, I am confessing to what I did. I’m not proud of it. I know you’re all looking at me differently now because I’m a human and your alpha, but I want you to understand that what I did wasn’t because I wanted the humans to benefit. Tyrell and I were looking for a way to give this pack and all of you security. We just went about it in the wrong way, and that’s so

“I’m not impressed by what’s happening,” the Moon Goddess said to me with a frown on her face as I still tried to wrap my head around the fact that we were here again.“Neither am I,” I replied.“The humans have destroyed their own plans on accident. They wanted to use those herbs gotten from the witches to destroy your pack, but they made a mistake. Their lab exploded, and all the herbs have been destroyed.”At her words, I sighed in relief and closed my eyes for a moment. “Oh, thank you. You have no idea how—”“I don’t think you’ve gotten the full grasp of what’s happening,” she interrupted. “You’re dead, Zara. They used the only gas they got from the herbs to trap you inside that cell, and you’re dead. Your son is out there alone with his father.”“What…” I trailed off. “You have to send me back. Something’s wrong with Darius. I think they told him something about me that isn’t true. He’s been angry at me for nothing.”“There’s nothing wrong with him. He wanted to convince them tha

“She’ll stay here as a slave.”I turned to Darius so fast that I almost fell dizzy as I frowned at him in confusion and shock. “What’s that supposed to mean? What do you mean I’ll stay here as their slave? Are you listening to yourself, Darius?”“You’ve proven to be a threat, not only to the pack, but your own son. I think it would be best if you stayed away from him. Perhaps you can talk them out of keeping you here after days,” he said.“You can’t be serious.” I shook my head, losing my voice. “You can’t take my son away from me.”“He’s my son, too, Zara. It doesn’t matter if my brother is his biological father. Aeron is dead now, so I have to step up to protect him. And you don’t seem to be in the right mind,” he argued. “Say here.”From the way he was looking at me, I knew he was serious. But a part of me refused to accept it.“And if I say I won’t stay here?” I asked, wondering how far he was willing to take this.“Then you won’t be welcome in my pack. Have it in the back of your

“What are you doing here? And who’s taking care of the pack?” I asked as I landed on the ground, completely forgetting about the witches that I was fighting just seconds ago.I walked toward Darius, squinting my eyes in suspicion as he walked toward me without saying a thing to answer any of my questions.“Darius? Is something wrong?” I asked him, my voice trembling and my stomach twisting in knots as I thought about the one reason why he would be here this fast. Aaron.“Talk to me. What happened? I can take the news, whatever it is.” I grabbed a hold of his hand, the crack in my voice betraying me.Darius stood there for a long moment as he looked at me with something I couldn’t quite place. Just when I thought he didn’t want to say anything, he pulled his hand out of my grip so roughly that I gasped.“Darius, you’re scaring me.” By now, everyone present had gathered around us. The witches were watching in amusement, and Deirdre only stood there with a blank look on her face.“What i

“You don’t want to do this right now, Zara. Trust me,” Deirdre warned me with a glare as she looked around at us as if signaling me to take a look around and see what I was doing to her pack members.Unfortunately for her, I was now looking out for my people and their safety.“If you really don’t want me to do what you’ll regret, then call back your spies from my pack. Tell them to return immediately, and give my son back to me. And the second I step out of this pack, do not come after me.”For a moment, I expected her to take that as her last chance to set things straight. It was my final act of putting the ball in her court so she wouldn’t cause the bloodshed she badly wanted.“You know that’s not possible.” She shook her head. “I know you think you’re doing me a favor here, but you have to think of things from my perspective.”“What perspective are you talking about?” I snapped at her in frustration. With each second that passed without an assurance that Aaron was safe, I was only
