“Why do you always do this, Zara?” Darius asked as he looked at me with an annoyed expression on his face. I could tell he was holding himself back from saying any more.

“I’m not saying it for just my benefit,” I said. “Your soldiers might not be enough for this. We need all the help we need.”

“So the next best thing to do is beg my brother for help?” He looked even more irritated at the thought now.

“Who said anything about begging?” I raised my hands in exasperation. “Why does it have to be about pride to you two? I know you can both talk it out. You’re both adults, Darius.”

He was quiet. For a moment, I thought he was considering it. There was a look on his face that convinced me that he was. I was then made to know that no matter how I tried, I would never be able to read Darius.

“I’ll take care of it myself. I’ll send word to my allying packs. Some of them have to agree. I will not be contacting my brother at this time.”

My shoulders sank with my heart as I looked back at the foo

“Aeron?” I called as I set my eyes on him. It was when Darius didn’t show any sign of surprise that I figured out what was happening.“Were you trying to lock me up in the bedroom because you didn’t want me to see him?” I asked Darius, who kept his eyes trained on his brother.“You better answer her question. Even I want to know why you were planning to lock her away when you knew I was around.” Aeron crossed his arms and gave Darius a mischievous smirk.“You do know that by entering my pack without my permission, you have indirectly called for a battle?” Darius said, ignoring my question.“Darius,” I whispered. I hated this. I hated having to be caught between their feud that never ended, and I hated who they both became whenever they were in each other’s presence.“And you do know that taking my mate out of my pack and keeping her in your pack without informing me calls for a war?” Aeron retorted.“Nobody is fighting anybody!” I yelled, causing a clap of thunder to stop everyone fro

There was tense silence between me and Darius when we stepped into his bedroom, finally alone enough to talk without the fear of being overheard.“I know what you’re probably thinking right now,” I started as I raised both of my hands in the air in surrender. “It’s only fair that you would think it’s my fault all of this is happening, but you should know that I’m just as confused about this.”“I know that much, Zara. What I fail to understand is why I have to be the one to deal with this. If your powers had unlocked in my brother’s pack, I wouldn’t have to be worried about the safety of my people.”My brows crinkled in a frown as I processed the words he had just said.“So what? This is about Aeron more than anything?” I asked. “I can’t believe you’re factoring your competition with your brother into this, Darius. Did you not hear Flora? Danger is coming.”“For you,” he added. “She said danger is coming for you. And it’s not about Aeron, Zara. This is about my people. If danger comes

“You’ve unlocked your powers,” Flora said, a look of mixed awe and horror sitting on her face as I looked around in confusion.“What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked as I turned to Darius and found him looking at me as if I was some sort of terrifying object that he didn’t want to touch.“It was never supposed to be unlocked this early. As the Moon Child, you have certain powers which you can control over time but it was hidden within you for a reason,” Flora shouted over the noise of the wind as it got even worse.“How can I stop it?!” I questioned when I heard shouts from outside. Darius beat me to it, running out of the house to check on his pack members. When I found myself outside, there were people shielding their faces as they tried to make it to their homes but were being hindered by the wind. Others were holding on to something in hopes that they wouldn’t be blown away as they all wondered aloud about where the wind came from.“Stop this!” Darius yelled as he grabbed my hand

“Come on. Sit, sit,” Flora invited when we got into her living room. There were herbs and sweet smelling liquids in jars packed onto the table in the middle of the living room.Seeing that I had noticed it, Flora let out a laugh. “I haven’t had the time to sort them all out, so they’ve been sitting here for days. Nothing harmful to the baby, of course.”I nodded as I took a seat on the couch that could only sit two people. Darius sat right beside me as Flora found herself on a chair across from us.“These are letters,” she noted when she opened one of the letters and read through it. Her eyes scanned the paper before taking out another. There were about five of them, and she read them all before looking up at us.“You’ve come to find out the truth about your father and the last alpha king,” she said. It wasn’t a question. She knew what we were there for. Darius nodded.“I can’t say I wasn’t expecting this day,” she said. “I was wondering how long it would take before you would find ou

“Do I really have to?” I asked Darius as he placed an old paper in my hands with care. I didn’t want to have to read the letter to find out something that would disrupt the balance I barely even had right now.“You need to,” he emphasized, and I sighed before looking down at the paper.‘Alpha King Alfonso,This is Alpha James. Due to the war between all the creatures of the moon and the danger that your child, the Moon Child, is in, my mate and I have agreed to take your daughter in and raise her as our own in false identity so she isn’t found.’I looked up at Darius with my jaw dropped and disbelief swirling in my head.“This can’t be, right? It can’t be me… the daughter they’re talking about here?” I let out a shaky breath as I sat weakly on the chair in front of the desk and set the paper down.“You’re the Moon Child, Zara. The vampires kidnapping you and being sure about it is enough for me to believe that it’s you. You’re the one my father agreed to take in and raise,” Darius con
