“I lost the baby I was carrying.”

The first two people I looked at when I finally got that out of my chest were Darius and Aeron. They were the ones who would be the most affected by it all as they never got to find out which one of them was the father.

For a moment, my words hung in the air above everyone. There were different reactions to it. Some people looked shocked, a few of them even had the decency to look guilty. The others, complete apathy.

I took a deep breath before continuing.

“I just wanted you all to know how much of an effect that unnecessary war had on me,” I told them. “But that’s something I’ll have to deal with by myself and with the people I’m closer to. Right now, that’s not what we’re here for.”

And just like that, interest returned to their features as they looked at me to continue. Darius and Aeron still looked devastated, but that was something we could all talk about later. For now, I had to fulfill the will of the goddess.

My hand got so shaky as I looked at Janet after her announcement of my baby being alive. I didn’t know whether to cry, laugh or scream.“What are you talking about? What do you… No.” I shook my head. “You’re the one who told me that I had lost my baby. If the baby is alive, then why… Why did you lie to me?”“He came too early,” Janet replied. There was tears in her eyes, but the last thing I felt for her was sympathy. “We didn’t think he was going to survive, so we were giving him some time to heal. That’s why we didn’t know how to tell you—”“And you didn’t think the best way for a baby to heal was with his mother?!” I screamed now. The wind picked up and blew the windows further open, causing Imelda to scream and beg for me to put her down.“Don’t you dare talk to me right now. You’re lucky you’re even alive right now,” I said to Imelda before turning to Janet who had her two hands out for me to calm down.“We thought he was going to die, so we figured the best time to tell you was

“Imelda!” I heard Janet call out to someone. “She’s deep asleep. Let’s get started.”I heard footsteps before someone, possibly Imelda, walked into the bedroom. For a moment, there was silence and I couldn’t help but think that they were staring at me.It was starting to get hard, pretending to be asleep. I didn’t know what they were doing, and I felt as if I was in danger.“She said something about losing her memories. I think we need to ask Salem about the moonshade bloom she uses. The last thing we want is Zara suspecting anything,” Janet said, her voice getting louder as she got closer to me.If they wanted to avoid being suspected, it was a little too late for that.“How many pints do we need for the next three days? I think we should let her stay off the nectar for some days so she doesn’t lose any more of her memories,” Janet suggested. That was it. The nectar was causing me to lose my memories and Salem was in on it. She had been using moonshade bloom, which was one of the her

“Can I at least step out of here and take a deep breath while walking around? I mean, I don’t like to believe that I’m still being kept here as some sort of prisoner,” I said to Janet after a few minutes of her sitting there and trying to engage me in whatever conversation she wanted me to have with her.“Oh, of course you’re no longer a prisoner. You never were.” She shook her head at me with a crease in her brows.I found myself getting even more and more annoyed at how much she was pretending like there was nothing wrong when something sinister was lurking.“Good,” I said with a tight smile as I walked out of the bedroom. As I walked down the stairs with her hot on my tail, I sighed and turned around to find her giving me one of her many smiles.“Are you going to follow me everywhere now?” I questioned. My tone was clipped, which I was trying to avoid but I didn’t think I could hide anymore. I decided to make it seem like it was only because she was crowding my space that I felt su

“Are you okay?” Janet asked when I collapsed on top of the bed in pure exhaustion, staring up at the ceiling with my eyes stinging from unshed tears.“No, I am not okay,” I answered genuinely. “How am I supposed to be in charge of everyone if they all keep fighting like this? The worst part is that I have no idea what to do or give out as a punishment for what just happened.”There was silence as Janet looked at me with understanding.“You’ll get there. You shouldn’t have to pressure yourself over this,” she told me as she took a lock of my hair and twirled it around her fingers.“I don’t even have to pressure myself before the pressure catches up with me,” I said with a shake of my head. “I have no idea what to do.”“I know what you should do,” Janet replied with a coy smile on her face as she stood up and rushed towards the table beside the bed. She took the vial of the recovery nectar I had been taking every night and handed it to me.“I knew you would be tired when we returned so

“Someone stop him!” I screamed on top of my lungs as Darius rushed towards Smith, who didn’t seem bothered by the fact that he was being approached with so much wrath. The only person brave enough to chase after Darius was Aeron, who was yelling out for his brother to stop. I didn’t think Darius was listening to anyone. But right before he reached Smith who was waiting expectantly, he turned and lunged at another unsuspecting vampire with his teeth digging into the vampire’s neck.“No!” Smith yelled out and tried to go help his fellow vampire, but Aeron jumped in front of him to stop him.“Get out of my way!” I yelled, pushing through the crowd which was now getting more and more close together as everyone was looking for a way to be away from the scene. One by one, vampires started to crowd Darius, but he kept tearing them apart. I didn’t think I had ever seen him so primal or so feral before. Soon enough, the vampires started to run away from him.“Darius, please stop!” I yelled as
