ELENA'S POV

The trial was small. Just the council. Four old wolves who'd served Caden's family for decades. Serena sat at a table with her evidence. Caden stood near the window, watching everyone.

I stood in the center. Alone. No chains. They didn't think I'd run.

They were right. I was done running.

Serena spoke first. Her voice was calm. Controlled. The perfect victim.

"I trusted her. Gave her access to my rooms, my food, my private life. And she used it all against me."

She held up the herbs. The ones from my bag. The ones planted while I packed.

"These were found in her possession. The healer confirmed it. Slow poison. Designed to stop conception. I've been taking it for months without knowing."

The council members looked at the herbs. Looked at me. Their faces hard.

Councilor Vance spoke. "You have anything to say?"

I opened my mouth. But Serena kept going.

"There's more." She pulled out the photos. Lily's face. Plain. Forgotten. "Found these in her bag too. Old pack photos. From five years ago. Why would a servant have these unless she was planning something?"

Councilor Thomas picked up a photo. Studied it. "Who is this?"

Serena smiled. Small. Cruel. "Her real name isn't Elena. It's Lily. She's from a destroyed pack. The same pack Alpha Caden visited five years ago."

The room went quiet.

Caden didn't move. Didn't speak. Just watched.

Vance looked at me. "Is this true?"

I said nothing.

Serena pressed on. "She came here for revenge. To destroy us. To hurt Caden however she could. She admitted it last night. Ask her yourself."

All eyes turned to me.

Caden's voice. Quiet. "Say something."

I looked at him. At Serena. At the council judging me.

Five years of hiding. Five years of planning. Five years of being someone else.

It ended now.

"You want the truth?"

I turned to the council.

"Fine. Here it is."

I faced them. Stood straight. Let them see me. Really see me.

"My name is Lily. I was born in a small pack in the eastern mountains. We were poor. Happy. Nothing special."

Vance shifted. Impatient. But I kept going.

"Five years ago, Alpha Caden came to our lands. He was kind. Charming. I was young and stupid and fell for it."

Caden flinched. Small. Almost nothing.

"We were mates. Fated. He told me he'd never felt anything like it. I believed him."

Serena's smile faded.

"Three days later, he rejected me. Stood in front of everyone and said I wasn't good enough. Wasn't pretty enough. Wasn't worthy."

My voice stayed steady. No tears. No shaking.

"The rejection almost killed me. I spent months in bed, wishing for death. My grandmother saved me. Old magic. She changed my face. Changed my scent. Made me someone new."

Councilor Beth leaned forward. "Changed your face? That's possible?"

"Yes. You're looking at the proof."

I touched my cheek. Stranger's face.

"Two months ago, I came here. Got the job as Serena's assistant. I wanted revenge. Wanted to destroy Caden the way he destroyed me."

Caden's face was white. He looked like someone had punched him in the chest.

"But I never poisoned Serena. Never touched her food. Never gave her anything. The herbs in my room were for hiding my scent. Nothing else."

Serena laughed. "Of course you'd say that. You're a liar. You admitted you came here for revenge."

"I didn't poison you."

"Then who did? The healer confirmed it. Someone gave me those herbs for months. You had the same herbs in your room. It's simple."

I looked at her. Really looked.

"You're right. Someone gave you those herbs. Someone with access to your food. Someone you trusted."

Her face flickered. Just for a second.

I turned to the council. "Ask yourselves who benefits from Serena not having children. Who gets stronger if she's weak. Who wants Caden to doubt her."

Vance frowned. "What are you saying?"

"Search her rooms. Not mine. Hers. You'll find the real poison. The stuff she's been taking herself to fake the symptoms."

Serena stood. "That's ridiculous. Why would I poison myself?"

"To blame me. To get rid of me. Because you knew who I was. You knew from the start."

She went still.

I kept going. "You found my herbs weeks ago. Had them tested. Realized what they were for. And instead of exposing me, you planned. You planted evidence. You made yourself the victim."

"You have no proof."

"I have your face right now. Everyone in this room sees it."

She looked at the council. At Caden. At the faces watching her.

Caden spoke. Quiet. Dangerous. "Serena?"

She shook her head. "You're believing her? A servant who admitted she came here to destroy us?"

He didn't answer. Just looked at her. Waiting.

Councilor Beth stood. "Guards. Search the Luna's rooms. Now."

Two guards left. The room stayed frozen.

Serena's calm cracked. "This is insane. I'm the Luna. You can't—"

"We can." Beth's voice was hard. "Sit down."

Serena sat. Hands gripping the table.

Minutes passed. No one spoke. I could feel Caden watching me. Burning holes in my stranger's face.

The guards returned. One carried a small box.

"Found this hidden in her closet. Behind loose boards."

Beth opened it. Pulled out herbs. The same kind. But fresher. More potent.

"The healer." Beth looked at Serena. "Now."

The healer stepped forward. Examined the herbs. Nodded.

"Same as the poison in Luna Serena's system. Same compound. Same strength."

Serena stood. "I didn't—someone planted that. Her. She did it."

I shook my head. "I've been in a cell all night. When would I plant anything?"

Vance looked at Serena. Confusion on his face. "Why would you do this?"

Serena's control broke. Her face twisted.

"Because of her." She pointed at me. "Because he couldn't stop looking at her. Because he stood outside her door at night. Because he defended her. Hit me for her."

Caden stared. "You did this because I looked at someone?"

"You're my husband. Mine. And you acted like I didn't exist. Like she mattered more."

"She's my mate." The words came out rough. Broken. "I rejected her five years ago and I've regretted it every day since. And you—" He stopped. Shook his head.

Serena laughed. Bitter. Ugly. "Your mate? That plain thing? That nothing from nowhere?"

"Don't."

"She's ugly, Caden. She always was. That's why you rejected her. Because your father told you to. Because you were too weak to stand up for her."

Caden moved. Fast. Guards stepped between them.

Serena kept going. "You think I don't know? You think I haven't heard you call her name in your sleep? Lily. Lily. Lily. For five years. Even in my bed, you were with her."

The room was chaos. Guards grabbing Serena. She fought. Screamed. Kept yelling.

Through it all, Caden stood still. Staring at nothing.

Then he looked at me.

Walked toward me.

Guards moved to block him. He stopped. Looked at them.

"Move."

They didn't.

He looked at me over their shoulders. Eyes wet. Face broken.

"Lily."

His voice. Saying my name. My real name. First time in five years.

I couldn't breathe.

"I'm sorry." He said it quiet. Just for me. "I'm so sorry."

I wanted to hate him. Wanted to hold onto the anger that kept me going for five years.

But standing there, watching him fall apart, I felt nothing but tired. So tired.

Serena was dragged out. Still screaming. Still blaming everyone but herself.

The council talked. Argued. Decided things I didn't hear.

I stood in the center. Alone. Finally free.

Not because of revenge. Because the truth was out.

Whatever happened next, I wasn't hiding anymore.

Caden was still there. Still watching. Still waiting.

Guards kept us apart.

But for the first time in five years, he knew.

He knew who I was. What he did. What I'd become.

And he'd have to live with that.

Just like me.

I walked toward the door. A guard opened it.

"Where are you going?" someone asked.

I didn't answer.

Out of the room. Out of the hall. Out of the house.

The gate was ahead. Open. No one stopping me.

I walked through it.

Behind me, someone called my name. Lily. Elena. Didn't matter.

I kept walking.

Free. Finally free.

Not because I got revenge.

Because I let it go.

THE END
