LOGIN“What the…”
I gasped.
A shocked silence echoed through the room.
It was impossible.
There was no way this stranger could have given an Alpha command. Yet—we all felt it.
That power, the raw rage that came along with it.
Something was up.
I looked around the room. No one dared move. Not even my father made a sound. The confusion was boldly written on their faces.
Their gazes were locked on the stranger who was still kneeling on the floor.
Before him, Delta Gareth was also on his knees. His head was buried to the floor with his hands clasped over his ears. He whimpered, trembling.
The stranger fixed his gaze on the guards, and instinctively, some of them stepped back. One of them tripped over his feet and fell to his knees with a cry.
A few of the guards who seemed to summon more courage than the rest reached for their weapons, but they didn't draw or dare to move closer.
They were beside themselves with fear.
All my life, I have never seen my father go speechless or seen his men tremble in fear of anyone else aside from him.
This was a first.
I refused to let my gaze move away from the stranger. I watched his every move, stunned.
“What is he?” I whispered to myself.
Only an Alpha had such power; still, it takes a much more powerful one to completely subdue werewolves of the Moonveil pack, not to mention shaking the Alpha himself.
“Who are you?” Alpha Cedric's voice finally boomed through the silence. He was furious, hands clenched at his side as he narrowed his gaze on the stranger.
Despite how weak I felt, I felt my curiosity kick in as I waited for his answer. The room was so silent, I could hear people's thoughts.
Slowly, the stranger stood up. He was tall, very tall, and intimidating. He tipped his head to the side as if he wanted to see if I was watching him, and I swallowed.
I wasn’t sure what I felt, fear or admiration.
Before me was a stranger that showed me kindness even when everyone else turned their back. He was my angel, but yet a demon. His aura was dark and possessive, and the power he exuded was chilling. Deadly.
The stranger faced the room once more, and then, with a voice that made my intestines tremble, he spoke. Calmly.
“I am the Rogue King.”
A loud gasp cut across the room. Those who still had an inkling of courage trembled from cowardice.
I turned to ice.
“The rogue king?” I repeated. My breath seized. I was right all along.
He was the demon.
My fear soon spiraled into confusion.
It was inevitable. All that had happened before now ran through my mind, and I began to wonder if what I had witnessed was really true.
How possible was it that this evil shape-shifter into a werewolf was the one who had shown me the most kindness? He never hurt me.
I closed my hand into a tight fist as I remembered the feel of his flesh against mine. He held my hand and gave me water. And most of all, he stopped Gareth from causing harm.
The Rogue King was not a man of charity. He would never go to such lengths for a mere werewolf like me except—
I shivered as a truth dawned on me.
“He wants something from me. He wants to use me for his bidding.” I whispered.
I wasn’t sure if he heard, but he released a short snort without looking back.
What was my use to him? Was I some kind of pawn in a war between him and my father? I knew my father had numerous enemies, and the Rogue King being one of them is no surprise.
There was a sudden shift in the air. Alpha Cedric stepped forward, enraged, and pointed at the Rogue King. I could feel my father charge his own Alpha command.
Alpha Cedric was powerful. It would have been a shame if the Rogue had defeated him without a fight.
“Who do you think you are?” Alpha Cedric laughed. “You have the guts to walk in here. You are nothing but a mad wolf. I have shown you enough mercy.”
The rogue king chuckled.
Alpha Cedric bellowed. “I want him captured and chained.” He commanded. “I promise to give you the treatment you deserve.”
It was as if the command was a wake-up call for his men. The guards scrambled into action, suddenly energized and furious as they launched an attack on the Rogue King.
Suddenly, there was a loud roar, the king's eyes glowed a bright red, and he seemed scarier than before. He looked insane, and the air around him became darker, icy. Several guards collapsed under the pressure of his Alpha dominance.
I moved back.
I could feel it myself.
The Rogue King was powerful, more powerful than any other alpha wolf I have seen. It was very unusual to have such a wolf at my side. I never once imagined that I would ever meet someone like this.
I still had no idea why the Rogue King was here in the first place. Was I really a part of some twisted plan he must have?
When Alpha Cedric saw that his men were getting subdued, he slowly charged for the Rogue King himself.
It was going to be a bloody battle.
A loud cry broke the tension as a werewolf ran in, his eyes wide with terror. “The rogues… they’re here. The Rogue King’s army has surrounded the palace.”
Alpha Cedric let out a loud cry and began to shift. His eyes glowed a golden yellow, his claws elongated, and fur covered his skin.
His wolf was a huge one, and he launched an attack on the Rogue King, who grabbed him with both hands by the neck.
“I said I came for blood. And I always keep my promises,” the Rogue King growled.
I shivered looking at him. Was this man my enemy… or my only hope?
Caelan’s POV We sat on a blanket in a field that stretched on.The silence around us was not eerie or suspicious. It was a complete silence that only spoke about the stability.Beside me, Lyra sat with a smile on her face. She was radiating. There was something about her that constantly made her beautiful to me. It wasn't in her physical elegance or delicate look. It was in the way her heart was pure, untouched by the bitterness and pain she endured. She was strong. Bold. And mine.I looked ahead, taking a look at what she was staring at, and I chuckled. Our son runs ahead of us—barefoot, bare-chested, golden-eyed like Lyra, and sharp-jawed like me. He darts through the field, chasing after a squirrel as if he would win some kind of award over it. Lyra laughed hard at this, and I chuckled. She looked at me, eyes lit up in joy.“He’s never going to catch it.” She said softly.I nodded, joining her to laugh. It has been two long years already. Two years since Lyra and I marked each ot
Lyra POVIt wasn't as easy as I thought.Making the people accept a way that is different from what they were used to was almost impossible.I felt Caelan’s hand in mine, warm and gently comforting me as I began to feel the beginning of frustration hit me.“It's only the beginning.” He whispered in my ear. “They will adjust.”I prayed with all my heart that he was right.I almost melted into his touch.Ever since Caelan marked me a few nights ago, we have been unstoppable. It was almost as if I had a desire to live inside his skin, and the same with him.We were always in each other's company. It was clear what I felt for him.Love.Even though those words haven't slipped out of my lips, I felt it deep in my soul. But I was a little scared. I had no idea if he felt the same way.Desire could not really be equal to love. For Caelan, it could all be an act of duty and passion, but to me he was becoming everything. It would break me if I didn't have those words spoken back to me.That w
Caelan – POVThe war was over, finally.Idris was gone, and so was Selene. However, the relief I thought I would have felt at this knowledge didn’t come.Revenge was never the answer to my pain. All the years I spent going after those who hurt me did nothing but harm to myself. And Lyra made me realize that.I stood before her room door, contemplating if I should go through with this or turn back. For months, I have held back, consistently, wondering if it was the right thing to do.But now, I couldn’t care less about what others would think. I wanted her. I needed to touch her, feel her.Make her mine.I could feel my wolf grow restless from need. Yet, I knew Lyra had to be on the same page with me before I could go through with anything. The worst I would get was a no. With raised chin, I raised my hand and rapped my fingers against her door. The door flew open almost immediately. It was as if she was waiting for me to knock the entire time. For a moment, we stood staring at each
Lyra – POVIdris was gone too.Just like that.I still found it hard to believe he fought Selene to help me.Idris? There was no time for me to ruminate over his actions, seeing as Selene still wielded her sword against me. She was different from the last time I had seen her. The black dress she had on now contrasted with the white one she had worn in the past.I could see something that no one else could. The shadows. It was all over her. She was drenched in the darkness. There was something about her that felt so familiar, an aura that drew me to her like a moth to a flame.“You are hard to kill.” Selene chuckled when I laid Idris's body in line on the ground and fully faced her.“Or maybe there's something you are not doing right.” I said, raising my chin.Selene scoffed. “You have no idea what I am capable of now.I allowed my eyes to roam over her. “I can guess.” I whispered softly.Selene raised the blade, and with one throw, she swung it at me. The blade spun my way, and I d
IDRIS POV“What happened to you?” I gasped watching Selene walk up to me.The way she moved was eerie. There was something calculated and cold about the movement of her eyes. Then her clothes.Black.Selene never wore black. There was no veil covering her face. Her dress was bolder and more revealing. Her lips were painted in a bright red that contrasted sharply with the pale white of her skin.“You look like you've seen a ghost.” She chuckled, coming to a stop before me.I didn’t speak at first.I didn't know what to say. For days, I have wondered where Selen went after we both escaped from Caelan and Lyra. There was no sign of her, but now, here she was.I could see this wasn’t the same Selene I waited for. It was too obvious for me to remain blind to that fact.A sudden click drew my attention back to her.She held her hand up in the air, signifying that the sound came from snapping her fingers together. Then there was a swoosh. My eyes widened when a cloud of shadows appeared abov
Caelan – POVThere was nothing left of it. Nothing but silence. It felt like I was standing in the middle of a graveyard, surrounded by buried memories.Who would believe this place was once filled with life? Beauty. As I stood before the gravestones where my parents' names were carved, my mind's eye could envision everything. My father and his Beta are having a meeting, my mother is attending to the pack members, and the children are running around. It used to be such a life. But now, all that struck me was the silence. It was the kind of silence that followed the absence of wandering souls. The last time I stood here was when I was a child. The last day here was the most horrifying day of my life. It left me covered in ash and blood. It was worse that I was a survivor.I believed it would have been better if the war had taken both me and my parents, but I was left to bear it alone. The guilt of being alive has plagued me till this very moment.I lowered myself to the ground and ran
