Rogue King POV

Blood.

I was thirsty for it, and so were my men.

Behind me, I heard the Rogues infiltrate the pack. There were screams of terror beyond the walls and around me. Limbs were torn into shreds, and guts were spilled.

There was blood everywhere, dark red like an expensive painting.

I felt the excitement grow in me as doom befell the Moonveil pack.

The screams were like music to my ears. Rogues sank their teeth into the necks of helpless werewolves who once had the courage to arrest me with silver chains.

I chuckled, locking my gaze on the Alpha I was slowly choking to death.

“I will ruin you and your entire pack.” I said.

Alpha Cedric struggled in my grasp, trying to escape. He was no match for me. I sunk my claws into his neck, and he whimpered.

I had no idea why I was so angry. A part of me said it was the girl, the one I saved. Lyra

The thought of the kind of terror this Alpha had unleashed on the girl made me more furious, and I flung the Alpha against the wall. His body hit it with a loud thump.

He lay on the floor for a few moments, catching his breath. With a loud growl, I charged towards him. Fury blinded me and raised my class in the air, about to strike when—

“Stop!” I heard a loud cry.

Lyra stood before me, using herself as a shield for Alpha Cedric.

I growled in protest, but I withdrew my attack. This has never happened before. I have never stopped mid-attack for anyone before.

“What do you think you are doing?” I roared at her.

“Please stop.” She looks around, taking note of the wolves being torn apart by my rogues, and she turns teary eyes to me. “Please just stop them, I beg you. Don't destroy my home.” She said.

Something about those eyes broke me. All the anger and rage I felt was suddenly dispelled, and I backed away. I raised a hand in command to the rogues, barking out a ‘stop’

What was happening?

It was almost as if I had no control of my own emotions. It felt like her pleas had forced a calm on me.

I hated it.

I felt my blood rage in hunger. I wanted to spill blood. I needed to kill every last one of them until I felt the utmost satisfaction, yet Lyra’s words were holding me back.

It was some kind of invisible bond that was trying to control my thirst.

My wolf snarls. “We must not stop now. We have to kill him. He has challenged us.”

“I can't,” I growled back in my head.

He snarled. “You would let her control you?”

“I can't help it.” I backed away. “I just can't.”

There was a silence. I expected my wolf to bite back with a harsh response, but I was surprised at his silence. Slowly, I felt the bloodthirst dissipate.

I frowned, looking at Lyra.

“Who the hell are you?” I growled.

She looked at me in confusion. “I'm Lyra.” She said softly.

I rolled my eyes. As much as her name gave me another calming sensation, that was not what I was curious about.

“What is it about this girl that makes me want to stop?” I asked my wolf, “Why does her voice calm me? And why do I want to obey every word she asks of me?”

For a few moments, my wolf kept his silence, and I was sure he had no answer to my questions. Then suddenly, I felt a ringing in my head, and I groaned, placing a palm over it.

A vision.

I haven't had one in a long while.

What I saw next left me bewildered.

I saw a girl. Not just any girl, but a familiar one. She looked a lot like Lyra, but just younger.

She was smiling, and there was some kind of glow around her. I wasn’t sure what it was, but it wasn't pure white light. It had an orange hue, like…fire.

My body felt warm, and my wolf finally broke his silence, speaking over the image I could see in my head.

“Maybe she is the one.” He said.

“The girl from the prophecy... it’s her.” I answered. I was sure of it.

A chill ran through my spine at those words. I looked at Lyra in shock.

How was that possible?

I looked around; the rogues were waiting for my command to continue their attack. I could see the confusion on their faces for suddenly telling them to pull back.

I sensed the tension in the air, the desire to kill. But I ignored it. Lyra was more important as of now. And if it meant listening to her just to get what I want, then I would.

I gently pushed Lyra out of the way and faced Alpha Cedric, who had now shifted back to human form, nursing his wounds.

“I’ll spare your lives. Your walls. Your people.” I started “But only on one condition: if she comes with me. She belongs to me now.”

I pulled Lyra closer, ignoring her small effort to protest against my hold.

Alpha Cedric snorted. “Take her. I don't care what you choose to do with her.” He looks around and laughs. “Looks like she's going to have a fate more brutal.”

I ignored the urge to throw a punch at the Alpha’s face.

Unlike the Moonveil pack, I have no intention to harm her. However, I doubted Lyra felt the same way.

I felt her trembling under my hold.

She was scared, scared of me. She had no idea I wouldn't harm her.

In a way, that was good. At least she wouldn't know the kind of power her words have over me. However, I tried to give her a choice.

“Come with me.” I said, letting her go.

Lyra looked confused, almost as if she wasn't sure if she could trust me. Then, her gaze softened, and she stepped forward, taking my hand.

If it means peace… I’ll go with you,” she said.

She placed her hand in mine, and I lifted her hand gently.

My rogue army withdrew.

And together we walked out of the palace. Just before it disappeared out of sight, I turned to see Lyra looking back one last time at the pack that hated her.

Lyra POVMy feet slapped against the cold ground, breath ragged and limbs trembling as I ran.My heart thundered fiercely in my chest, the beat drumming loud against my ears.I could hear them, the rogues. Their growl tore through the forest in waves, but I never looked back. The wolves had already surrounded me.“Please.” I begged. “I will leave and never come back. Just let me go.”There was no response to my plea. One of the rogues grabbed my arm fiercely and pulled me up so hard I felt as if my bones were going to dislocate.Suddenly, another one of the wolves that I recognized as the leader grabbed my throat.“Don't d

Caelan POVMy eyes opened.I wasn't dead, not yet.It took a long time for me to adjust to my environment, but I still had no idea where I was.I was lying on the ground, my back against the lush green grass of a field. Around me, there was nothing, just a wide space that seemed to go on forever.I sat up and frowned. This wasn't the rogue territory. Who brought me here? Idris?I felt my blood charge.Suddenly images of the last moment I had before now flashed through me.The war.I looked around. This was not what I expected. I was supposed to be on the warfield, surrounded by rogues and wolves. But where I was, was nothing close to that.It looked like something made out of a fairy tale.As if on cue, a butterfly fluttered its wings and rested against my fingers.“Why am I here?” I whispered into the air. “Where is everyone, Alpha Idris?. What happened to the war?”Right at that moment, the sky rumbled. Like a reply.I looked up.The clouds began to change from a smoky white to a da

Lyra's POVI had no idea how long I stayed on the ground with Caelan's cold body in my arms. But I didn't move, not until the warriors came and pulled him away.“No. Wait!” I scrambled to my feet.It was strange how attached I was to a man I should have seen as a monster. It was even stranger that I felt such intense emotions for him despite the fact that we haven't spent a lot of time with each other. There was something that simmered between us.Something that I was yet to figure out, and from the looks of it I may never figure out.I grabbed a hold of one of the warriors who took Caelan.“What are you doing?” I asked “where are you taking him to?”He pulled his arm away from me.I noticed something strange. This warrior was clean, too clean. It didn't look like he had been in the war just now.“The King is dead, tradition demands we must burn his body.” He said.“No!”A low growl had me spinning back quickly and I felt my bones ache from the anger that rose in me.I saw Thorne. Lyra's POVHell was let loose. But I was ready. Rogues fought fiercely, trying to defend their territory and their families.Nothing was going according to plan. And now, the Rogues were outnumbered. It was more than I had expected. It was almost as if Alpha Idris had called for backup.I also noticed that Thorne and a few warriors were missing in the war. It had been a planned betrayal to sabotage Caelan’s plans. My skin crawled at the stench of blood in the air, but I refused to let that stop me as I raced through the field. My heart clenched as I witnessed the rogues fighting hard. I looked around, head whipping back and forth, searching for Caelan.I ducked just as a wolf lunged at me.Still in human form, I swiped my dagger at him; the sharp end of the blade dug into the side of his neck.Blood oozed ou

  • LYRA, THE HEIR-EATER   Chapter 14: The look in her eyes

Caelan POVThe first thing I smelled was blood. It lingered in the air, and my head snapped in the direction it came from. And there she was,Lyra. She held the missing girl in her arms.Relief flooded me and I moved closer.“You did it.” I smiled. Then I noticed it.The blood on her hands and clothes. The way she dragged her feet against the floor, almost as if she was trying to hide her pain. The look in her eyes. Dead.A small crowd had gathered, and the little girl was taken away from her and handed over to her mother, who cried out in relief. But I was more concerned about Lyra. I frowned when her expression remained the same, the pain on her face too great to ignore.“Lyra!” I rushed forward, catching her just before her knees gave way. Her body was limp against mine, her breath shallow, and her face caked with blood—not just hers.“I did it,” she whispered, her voice rough.I felt warm liquid from the part where I held her. I raised my hand, and cold dread gripped me at the sig
