Chapter Twenty-Three

Ray sighed wistfully. He was missing his mate already. Leah had said she needed to go home to speak with her father. Ray had offered to go with her, but she declined his offer. She said that this was something she needed to do on her own. She needed to tell her father about their mating. She said that she felt bad for going behind her father’s back, and that the least she could do was to meet with him face to face and explain what was going on. Ray understood where she was coming from, and so he didn’t argue further about her going by herself.

Ray kissed her deeply and saw her off, watching her dragon form fly away until he could no longer see her. He turned and headed to where the construction team were working on the new pack houses. He walked over to where his nephew, Carter, stood holding some tools for Jagger and ruffled the pup’s hair. “Hey, kiddo.”

Carter smiled adoringly up at his uncle. “Hey, Uncle Ray.”

He looked around as if searching for someone, and Ray chuckled knowingl
